NBA News: Orlando Guard Jameer Nelson Opts Out, Becomes Free Agent

Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson has opted out of his contract and has become an unrestricted free agent, according to Brian K. Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel. However, Nelson and the Magic reportedly have mutual interest in remaining together.

But, if Nelson and the Magic are unable to reach an agreement there are several other options he may consider. With the Lakers suddenly without a point guard (following Ramon Sessions opting out, too), they could pursue the former All-Star guard.

Nelson has killed the Lakers historically, which could improve his stock in the eyes of team management. But with the Lakers unable to offer Nelson much more than the MLE, it’s likely he will get a better offer from someone else. They could try and work out some sort of sign-and-trade scenario with Orlando, but as of now that seems unlikely.
