Mike Brown Not Afraid of Following Legendary Phil Jackson

When Mike Brown was originally announced as the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers it was met with plenty of skepticism. How could a coach that was known for his inability to win a championship in Cleveland follow one that was known only for winning championships?

However, after a series of press conferences Brown has done what he can to win over the Lakers fanbase until they actually resume playing games. But the biggest asset Brown has going for him is his eagerness to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Phil Jackson.

According to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports Brown even got a visit from Jackson last week while at the Lakers offices. Phil was there visiting his girlfriend, Lakers executive vice president Jeanie Buss, when he stopped to have a conversation with the man who took his place.

“We just talked shop about some of the guys on the team. But we talked more about what he’s got going right now, and where each one of us is living, and where he still has a place and all that other stuff. We talked about that more than really getting into talking about basketball.”

As if living in the shadow cast by a legend like Jackson wasn’t hard enough, having him show up at the office could be strenuous for any new coach. But Brown seems to take it in stride, and looks forward to living up to the expectations set by Jackson’s tenure in Los Angeles.

It is a positive sign that Brown is ready to show what he can do, and a good relationship between himself and Jackson certainly can’t be a bad thing.
