Lakers News: Team To Remain On ESPN 710 Through 2021-22 Season

While the Los Angeles Lakers continue to prepare for their immediate future on the basketball court through their pre-draft workouts, the team has also been focused for their plans off-the court. The Lakers have had their games broadcast on the radio through ESPN 710 since 2009 and announced a continued agreement with the radio station Tuesday.

As the team hopes to improve its basketball quality making sure Laker fans are able to hear about the team’s potential success is a priority for the Lakers. John Ireland and Mychal Thompson will continue to broadcast the games just as they have done for the past couple of seasons.

The agreement keeps the Lakers on ESPN 710 until through the 2021-2022 seasons. Team president first announced the news during an appearance on the radio station. For more information, the Lakers released the following press release highlights the partnership between the two entities:

ESPNLA and the Los Angeles Lakers have reached an agreement to extend their radio play-by-play relationship for two additional seasons, keeping the iconic NBA team on ESPNLA through the 2021-2022 season. ESPNLA (710 AM) will carry all 82 regular-season games as well as the entire preseason and every playoff game. ESPNLA has served as the official radio broadcast home of the Lakers for the last six seasons, since 2009.

The announcement was made earlier today by Jeanie Buss, part owner and president of the Lakers, when she appeared as a guest on ESPNLA 710 AM.

“We at ESPNLA have enjoyed a terrific and mutually-beneficial relationship with the Los Angeles Lakers since 2009, and could not be more excited to extend our agreement through mid-2022,” said Scott McCarthy, Vice President and General Manager, ESPNLA. “We are very proud to be associated with one of the premier franchises in all of sports.”

John Ireland will continue as the play-by-play commentator for the Lakers radio broadcasts, with Laker great Mychal Thompson remaining as the color analyst. Ireland is also co-host of The Mason and Ireland Show which airs on ESPNLA 710 AM weekdays from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. PT. Thompson co-hosts Thompson and Trudell, broadcast daily from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
