Lakers News: Team Not Interested in Sign and Trade With Warriors

The Los Angeles Lakers will meet with free agent Dwight Howard tomorrow as they look to convince the star to re-sign with the team.

Free agency officially began at 9:01 pm PST Sunday night and the Houston Rockets were the first team to meet with Howard. The Lakers will be getting the last word but the Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors will also be giving their pitch to the center.

LakersNation reported earlier that the Warriors will offer a sign and trade to the Lakers which will send Andrew Bogut and either Klay Thompson or Harrison Barnes to Los Angeles. However, Ken Berger tweets that the Lakers have no interest in a deal for Howard.

The Lakers have been clear that a sign and trade for Howard is not an option they are pursuing. The team has a lot of cap space to work with next summer and working on a deal may prevent them from being able to sign key players in 2014.

Plan A for the Lakers is for Howard to re-sign and they will do whatever it takes in their meeting with him on Tuesday.
