A couple years ago, rapper Lil Wayne put out a song for Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant and the two have developed a strong relationship.

In ESPN The Magzine’s 2014 World Cup issue, Lil Wayne talked about numerous topics including meeting Bryant for the first time and not knowing that the five-time champion was a huge fan of his music:

When we met, I told Kobe I’m a huge fan and he told me he’s a huge fan, which was a total shock. He also said he likes the things I say about him in music. I think I put a song out for him. I don’t know, I’ve done so much music.

With Lil Wayne being a “die-hard” Lakers fan, the rapper gave Kobe Bryant full credit for Carter V Season:

“Carter V Season” was all Kobe. He came up with it. I saw that and thought, That’s dope as hell, so that’s what we’re calling the album campaign. I thanked him. Then we thought about Floyd.

To show his support for Lil Wayne, Bryant posted a photo on Instagram of the rapper’s latest album back in April. Considered two of the best in their respective industries, it is unique to see Lil Wayne and Kobe collaborate on this album.

After two consecutive season-ending injuries, the five-time champion is in the process of making his way back for perhaps the final two seasons of his future Hall-of-Fame career. With the Lakers hoping to hire a head coach before the NBA Draft on June 26, Bryant will have a better idea of next year’s roster as he looks to win his sixth championship.
