Lakers Call-Up Trey Johnson From the D-League

Trey Johnson was signed by the Los Angeles Lakers as a pre-season invitee, but he was released by the front office shortly before the season began. However, after the injury of point guard Steve Blake, the Lakers have re-signed Johnson for the remainder of the season, including the playoffs.

Johnson emerged as a star player in the NBA Developmental League and in the 2010-2011 season, he averaged 25.5 ppg, 4.5 apg and 4.2 rpg.

Johnson played for the Bakersfield Jam, and in their lone playoff appearance, Johnson scored 29 points as the Jam beat the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Johnson’s minutes are still uncertain, but he will provid the Lakers with speed and athleticism if Phil Jackson were to play him. In the D-League, Johnson is a top candidate for the MVP, but in the NBA he can win a championship ring with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Highlights of the Bakersfield Jam’s playoff victory

  • Hopefully this is our answer to the point guard issues we are having all year , And hoping Phil will give this guy Trey Johnson some minutes at the point to relieve Derek Fisher when he is being beat up by the speedy point guards they have to face each round in the playoffs , looking at his highlights from the NBA developmental league , he seems to be very athletic ,speedy and can hit the threes which definitely can help when our offense get stagnant sometimes. and also with is athletic abilities he can keep up with the Tony Parker , Russel Westbrook and Chris Paul in the West , or Rajon Rondo ,Derek Rose in the east .

  • Trey Johnson looks super… more confident, quicker and a more reliable shooter than any backup to Derek Fisher. Trey woke up the second unit… it appears a truly able guard was the missing link. This fellow may be the link to a championship, as the second unit MUST play well.
