With Ron Artest, Less is More

Written by on 12/15/2009 in Editorials, News - Comments Off

Assuming the Lakers march their way to the NBA Finals, it is safe to say they will have to face at least two out of these three talented small forwards: Carmelo Anthony, Paul Pierce, or Lebron James. Ron Artest is the much better match up against all three!

Before you even make it to the bottom of that glass of henny, lets remember how integral a role Rick Fox played for previous teams. Try to forget that Ron-Ron is averaging a measly 12.4 points per game and settling as the team’s fifth best option on the offensive side of the ball. Remember, that Rick Fox never starred in any of Kanye West’s “Amazing” NBA commercials during last years playoffs and received fewer accolades from the media than other Lakers role players like Robert Horry or Derek Fisher. But it is tough to argue against just how integral a part he was to the model of consistency that the Lakers were from 2000-2003.

Let’s not be quick to judge Artest’s growth simply by the stat sheet, instead lets take notice of some of the more subtle nuances. Because in the case of a star studded Phil Jackson coached Lakers squad, lets not forget that out of the small forward spot, less is more.
