The Lakers practiced Thursday before hopping on a plane to Salt Lake City, in preparation for Friday night’s game against the Utah Jazz. The Lakers received a bit of bad news after doctors decided that Pau Gasol shouldn’t travel with the team due to an upper-respiratory infection. Ryan Kelly was a hot topic of conversation after he played the biggest minutes of his career against the Miami Heat in the fourth quarter on Christmas Day. Kelly’s brief and unsuccessful stint guarding LeBron James was fresh on everyone’s mind, but the Lakers rookie was in good spirits about it. Ryan Kelly is nothing yet but maybe one day he will be something special.

I dig Kelly’s humble attitude. The Kid has what it takes IMO. He’s much more than a stretch 4. I see the same upside in his game I saw in Meeks last season. Time will tell…

Everyone of the Lakers big’s has been featured now as players that can earn PT going forward…

All this says is a trade is coming. Who will it be? Kaman is the likely choice but I’ll reserve judgement given other factors that need to be addressed.

agree… kaman should be the likely trade piece… Sacre has proven himself to be a good defensive center… and I am not surprised about Kelly’s defense, he is from Duke, and has very good defensive fundamentals. With Sacre and Hill at center, we can let go of Pau Gasol for a player like Zach Randolf, wth Kelly as primary backup moving forward.

Been checking the news every morning to see if the lakers has made a trade since trading started last week…

Likely won’t see anything happen til around or after January 10th when 10 day contracts can be signed and rookie contracts like Kelly’s become fully guaranteed.

Ryan Kelly is one of the “kids” what Mike should be playing half of every game. Kelly, Young, Hill, Henry, Sacre all need to play BIG time to learn & practice for a longer contract next year.
