Last night, Kobe Bryant’s return to the Lakers was marred by an ugly Laker performance in a 106-94 loss to the Toronto Raptors. Kobe Bryant gave himself an ‘F’ grade for his performance and most of the Lakers, especially the starters, didn’t fare much better.

In the fourth quarter the Lakers were attempting to make a comeback and steal a victory and Nick Young was determined to make it happen. Unfortunately for Young, what happened will almost definitely land him on every blooper reel, SportsCenter ‘Not Top 10′ and ‘Shaqtin A Fool.’

After receiving a pass from Jodie Meeks on the baseline, Young drove past Terrence Ross and as Jonas Valanciunas prepared to challenge him, attempted to spin around in the air. Young kept spinning, and the layup attempt hit the top of the backboard.

Even with the Lakers losing at the time, it was impossible not to laugh at the attempt, and the audacity of Young for attempting such a shot. It truly was something only Swaggy P could try to pull off and get away with it.

If you missed it, check it out in the slideshow above (BONUS: Slideshow includes a collection of Nick Young 360 layups).

Sorry, I’m giving him an A+ for this. It doesn’t matter that he missed. He was clearly playing off the energy of having Kobe on the team again. To me, it was more of a ‘celebratory’ move. If he had made that shot, then it would be on highlight films for eternity – a 720 on the return of the Greatest Player to the game after injury. We would see that move forever.

But, it served to show that the Lakers have ‘heart’. They are ready to take it up a level. Exciting.

How would you feel if the best player in the world was suddenly playing on your team. You would feel ‘invincible’. I’m sure that’s how Swag-P felt.

This is the new Lakers. Expect nothing but excitement.

He was thrown off by the defender. He has done this before so it would be safe to assume that he could make the shot, however when he went up to make it, he collided with the defender which completely threw him off his mark.
It would’ve been great to see him make the shot but it was a terrific attempt nonetheless. Love the energy.

Terrible play-by-play work from Billy Mac. Worse than Paul Sunderland.

  • Pookie

he’s made like 5 already and they clown the one he missed. Idiots!
