VIDEO: Magic Johnson Says ‘Too Many Ex-Lakers Working For Other Teams’

Lakers legend Magic Johnson has been very vocal about the state of his former team and the direction the franchise is going. It’s no secret that the five-time NBA champion isn’t happy about what is going on with Lakers and wants to see some drastic changes sooner rather than later.

One thing that has bothered Magic recently is the fact that there’s too many former Laker greats working for other organizations in the NBA. Magic went down the list of former Lakers players, coaches and front office personnel currently working elsewhere on the Dan Patrick Show on Monday.

Magic mentioned Jerry West (Golden State Warriors), Pat Riley (Miami Heat) and now Phil Jackson (New York Knicks) as examples.

With no clear indication of master plan for the Lakers moving forward, there’s a lot of uncertainty if this team can bounce back and contend in a highly competitive Western Conference. Although there was “no role” for Jackson with the Lakers, the 11-time NBA champion leaving town, and his fiance Jeanie Buss, for the Knicks was a severe blow.

Despite Magic and Kobe Bryant asking for changes, the Lakers turning it around during the off-season doesn’t seem likely. There will be limited options in free agency and no telling what players they’ll be able to land in the 2014 NBA Draft.

Needless to say, the rebuilding process will take some time with potentially a few more disappointing seasons on the horizon.
