Update: Former Laker Jay Vincent to 68 Months in Prison

Former Michigan State Spartan and Los Angeles Laker, Jay Vincent, has been sentenced to 68 months in prison following an employment scam. Lakers Nation reportedly earlier that Magic Johnson asked for the judge to give a light sentence to his ex-teammate, but Vincent must now spend over 5 1/2 years behind bars.

Vincent pleaded guilty last year to conducting a foreclose home inspection company which defrauded thousands of people. He also pleaded guilty to mail fraud and filing a false tax return.

“His position has always been that this was originally a legitimate company that he started,” his attorney Tom Clement said. “It was a legitimate business that subsequently became a fraud as opportunities subsequently showed themselves. He foolishly took advantage of it, and it spiraled out of control on him.”

The company had many names including Foreclosure Bank Inspection Co.; it refused to hire inspectors even though they charged clients $89 for a background check.
