As I mentioned earlier, I was pretty much devastated by the 39pt beat down we received two years ago. They beat us DOWN. The biggest point differential in NBA History. You know as well as I do that the Celtics did that to us because, well, because we’re the DAMN LAKERS! If it was any other team, they would have pulled their starters and started celebrating during a parade to the free throw line that would have made Joey Crawford crazy!
Paul Pierce tricked the world with his wheelchair antics and GOT AWAY with it. Pau Gasol turned into Pau GaSoft. They let Kobe Bryant sit there and soak up the green and white confetti that fell from their rafters. They had BILL FRIGGIN RUSSELL there to present the trophy and hug KG as he yells “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!”
Boston Fans surrounded our team bus and threw rocks, eggs and basically anything else they could find that reminded the Lakers that they haven’t left Boston yet.
Oh, they deserve a beat down. They deserve a REAL BIG BEAT DOWN!
No. 6 – No more Surprises. We know exactly what to expect.
Let’s all admit this to ourselves right now. The 2008 Lakers were just happy to make the Finals. We were coming off an unexpected year of success with the emergence of a dominant Andrew Bynum, a trade for Trevor Ariza and the glorious trade for Pau Gasol. Making the Finals was a cakewalk as there were no real challengers that year. We walked into the finals thinking everything was destined to fall our way.
On the other hand, the 2008 Boston Celtics were bought, er, built to win a championship in 2008. No one knew how this new team was going to work together in the playoffs. KG was Tracy McGrady before Tracy McGrady – the butt of all kinds of 1st Round Playoff Jokes. Ray Allen never did anything in Seattle after going to the Eastern Conference Finals once as a member of the Bucks. The only success Paul Pierce ever sniffed was when employee no. 8 was paying for half the seats in Boston to support his shimmy.
This year is different. We know the Celtics are going to come with it. We know they’re going to play dirty. We know they’re going to flop and do anything for the sympathy of a whistle. We know they’re going to hustle and try and intimidate us. We know they want it bad.
Most Importantly, we know that they know that We KNOW!
