You did the right thing by sitting down against Portland and San Antonio, so why not keep it going? Sit out Wednesday against Utah and skip the All Star Game (okay, you can go cheer on teammate Shannon Brown at the Slam Dunk Contest, but that’s it). That gives you 10 full days of rest that you desperately need. A well deserved recharge of your battery as we march into the playoffs. The Lakers play 11 of 15 games on the road in March, with stops in Miami, Charlotte, Orlando, and San Antonio.
We need you healthy, not just for this season but for the bigger picture. That cat in Cleveland is only getting better, and the only man who can stop him from taking his obnoxious chalk-throwing antics to the top of the NBA is you. You want to keep him from winning titles? You want to tack on a few more rings to your legacy?
You can do it, but not if you’re injured.
Look at it this way: If you are not 100% come playoff time, you won’t even get a chance to see Cleveland or Boston in the Finals because Denver, Dallas and Utah are sharks who smell blood.
So please Kobe, I’m asking nicely.
Sit down.
Just for a little bit longer.
You’ll thank me in June.
