The Machine is Rusty & The Fish is Cold

We can do it!

We can do it!

Last year, they were a combination of youthful exuberance and the calm of veteran leadership. Both played great defense and both were knocking down key shots for us on the way to the NBA Finals.

This year, one has been showing his age as guards blow past him and the other has been showing his, well . . . just not showing much.

“Derek Fisher is shooting just 22.9 percent from behind the 3-point arc in the Lakers 16 playoff games, Sasha Vujacic managed to raise his woeful shooting percentage to 31.8 percent by making two of his four 3-pointers in Monday’s Game 4 loss in Denver.”

“Vujacic said the primary reason he’s having trouble making shots in the games is because he’s playing in much shorter spurts this year, averaging 13.6 minutes in the playoffs. Last year, he played 21.7 minutes a game and shot 39.2 percent on 3-pointers.”

Phil Jackson didn’t address Vujacic’s playing time issues, but said the coaching staff is trying to find a way to get Vujacic back in the same mental zone he was last year, when he earned the nickname “The Machine” and a new, three-year, $15 million contract.”

Former Indiana Pacer and UCLAN Reggie Miller says when a shooter’s shot goes AWOl, the best way to get back on track is to score via a layup or free throws, both serve as a mental lift of seeing the ball go in the basket. Not bad advise from one of the NBA’s deadliest and clutch long ball shooters.

And to think that IT’s ALL ABOUT MINUTES, is just crazy. When your jumper is off, TAKE IT TO THE HOLE! Sasha is a great free throw shooter, but he hardly gets there because he WoN’t drive. When there is a close out on the 3 he must DRIVE TO THE HOLE. I see Shannon Brown doing it all the time. He has to use the skills he has to give some contribution to the team.
