Special Feature Video: Mychal Thompson (Part 1)

In Part I of Lakers Nation’s exclusive interview with Mychal Thompson, reporter Serena Winters gives you everything you need to know about the back to back Lakers champion and your current Lakers’ radio voice. From his hand sanitizing obsession, to the story behind the spelling of his name “Mychal,” and even his political aspirations.

Mychal Thompson played for three teams in the NBA (Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers), and although he has positives to share about each city, of course there’s one in particular that definitely stands out. In our interview, Mychal talks about playing against the ’85 Lakers and then for the ’87 Lakers, and which team was better.

“It’s like everybody peaked at the right time.”

Your Lakers radio voice tells us about his hatred towards the Boston Celtics (a requirement in order to be a part of the Lakers fraternity), and playing with and against Kevin McHale. The two time champ also takes us back to being picked number one overall in his 1978 draft and how the draft procedures have dramatically changed over the years. He reminisces about what it was like to play with three Hall of Famers, James Worthy, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Magic Johnson. Plus, Thompson tells us where to go to find the best Mexican food in the U.S. and explains his new business venture and possibly future, RadioFlag.
