Sick Kobe vs. Hurt Kobe

Written by on 11/20/2009 in Editorials - No comments

Yesterday, as I was talking with a friend, we wondered aloud why Phil hadn’t simply rested Kobe, or at least taken him out of the game earlier than he actually did.  Then we realized that, even injured, Kobe is still a monster baller.  After all, he still has not undergone surgery for the injury to his shooting hand pinkie finger, suffered on February 5, 2008, on the road against the New Jersey Nets.  But, we noted, Kobe seemed to explode in games when he has “flu like symptoms”.  Chris figured that during those games Kobe reverted to muscle memory, instead of experimenting with shots.

Of course, that got me wondering:  how does Kobe Bryant respond to sickness and injury?  I decided to take a look at how Kobe has performed in those situations, beginning with the 2007-08 season.
