While nobody can say with any certainty right now what the league will look like next season, the level of speculation is reaching an all time high. The worst case scenario for Los Angeles could be the potential of looking at a future without Jackson, James, or Bryant, which seems like an extreme stretch, but stranger things have happened. Is there a chance that the Lakers could be left without any superstar next year, either coach or player? If Jackson leaves the talk of LeBron the Laker is immediately dead, but what are the odds that Bryant comes back if his (current) favorite coach isn’t a member of the team?
“It appears that Kobe and Phil enjoy working together. They’ve enjoyed success together. In that regard, their decisions are connected. But it’s not something either of them has articulated. They seem to have a pretty good level of trust these days, as opposed to their relationship earlier.”
This is one thought that all Lakers fans shudder at, but the chances are remote at best considering their historic past. However, it is always important to be prepared and consider all options and angles in any situation. There is no question that the upcoming off-season is going to be one of historic proportions, and the NBA might be a completely different monster next season. One would believe that the Lakers will not be caught sitting on their hands, but this is the beauty of free agency, and sports in general.
