Report: Rasheed Wallace to Sign with Lakers?

Share on FacebookTweet about this on Twitter

According to A. Sherrod Blakely of NECN.com, forward Rasheed Wallace has decided to come out of retirement to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

Wallace, who most recently played for the Boston Celtics in 2010 (when he faced the Lakers in the NBA Finals, ironically), reportedly agreed to a buyout deal with the Celtics and has been training for a comeback for several months.

His return to action has been rumored for weeks, fueled by a decent showing at Pro-Am tournament in North Carolina this summer.

It only became heightened by, according to league sources, a renewed conditioning regimen that apparently has him looking better than he has “in years.”

Whether or not this means the Lakers intend to move forward Pau Gasol is yet to be seen, but according to Blakely’s sources the Lakers are making the move to try and strengthen their bench.

Since the Lakers have 14 players on their roster they can sign Wallace without having to cut a player to make roster space.

Wallace is 37.

Not a bad move but we still need a point guard

    • Anonymous

why so he can just pass it to Kobe to make 30 shots a game?

  • Scottiemac1

    How about adding Aaron brooks

    • Laker-Down-Under

Assuming he even returns by the cut off of March 15, only the Suns can sign Brooks

  • Frank Lyons

Good.  Now, we need that point guard.  Gilbert Arnas, Ramon Session?  Still a need.

  • JT241

he is a cry baby, cancer to any team.  WE NEED A POINT GUARD, NOT A WASHED
    UP POWER FORWARD!!!!!!!!!!!11

So the Lake show just went AARP on us….very nice acquisition Jimmy Buss…. I wonder how Miami is doing?

I think we needed a back up big any way… We only Have 4 big players.. Mc Roberts, Bynum, Gasoft, and Murphy… So the 5th Big was a need.. I don’t wanta see Walton at PF again this year.

This just means Pau is out of LA, and it’s sad because he is playing the best and most consistant on this team. That being said, it is only a good move and worth it if we get Ellis or curry from GS.

It doesnt mean anything he will come off the bench and we have one spot open

  • Lakers24

this adds depth to our bench plus look at his numbers hes a pretty solid addition. And always come up big! Another Robert horry!

They’d rather sign someone from out of retirement than a point guard from the D-League, really…???   What about Sessions, when’s the signing for him coming..??

    • http://twitter.com/LakerDownUnder Ashley McGrath

My bet is that this has been done to enable McBob to be shipped as part of the Sessions trade

  • Chris_los_angeles

is better than nothing.  the thunder killed them last night.

That’s the fast and young poin guard that we were all waiting for !!!

Yeah bring them all in, vaive devin ebanks and darius morris, and even andrew goudelock and sign allen iverson; gilbert arenas and rafer altson SIGN THEM ALL, all the old forgotten farts!!. It’s truly sad to be a Lakers fan right now….

  • LakerLyle

Sign Aaron Brooks. Ship Luke Walton and Darius Morris (LAL) to NJN for Jordan Farmar and Keith Bogans. Now we can start Aaron Brooks as the point guard, backed-up by Jordan Farmar, then Steve Blake. Andrew Goudelock can back up Kobe at the 2-spot. Fisher has to be  playing for 1-2 mins a game.

  • Franky Baby

anybody bought the new all star kobe’s????

I hear Iverson is available, too.

Well, something beats nothing…and Kobe needs help.  Jimmy Buss clearly should not be in the position of making decisions.  I don’t why his father won’t give him a post where he can’t mess up the team.  He is a disaster.  Thank God Stern did nix the deal for Chris Paul.  The stakes were just too high.  you get rid of an oak trees (Lamar and Pau) for a tree stump.  Hopefully, Rasheed can do something to help that bench since they are hell bent on keeping Luke Walton, who does not play at all.  I don’t believe Mike Brown is the coach for the Lakers either.  Should have given Brian Shaw a chance; he knows the Lakers and is a champion Laker, but Jim Buss messed this one up.

I heard Clifton McNeeley was available

  • S27olabre

pls. sign up Aaron Brooks!!!!!! before some teams wake up and notice he’s still out  available! spread the word! yo Mitch sign him up man!!!!!!!

    • Mcgratha

Only the Suns can sign Brooks. The Lakers can only get him via a trade which won’t happen

    ask magic to comeback.

  • Bjames1914

Jim Buss is the biggest cancer in the organization.  If you aren’t paying attention he has made the worse decisions and refusing to communicate and consult with the coach and Kobe doesn’t make any sense to me.  Definately need help, but the change should begin with eliminating him or at least demoting him to a position where he cannot destroy the team’s chances of winning.

  • purp&yellow
