Point Guard Possibilites: Who Should the Lakers Pursue?

With the rumors surfacing Friday evening that the Lakers might be interested in Gilbert Arenas as a potential free agent signing, we thought it would make sense to take a look at some of the other guards the Lakers have been reportedly linked to.

The difficulties at the point guard position have been glaringly apparent so far this season, and while plenty of trade talk circulates around Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, the need for a point guard seems to be the more essential area that should be addressed by the Lakers.

With that being said, here’s a look at some of the point guards the Lakers might be looking into signing or trading for this season.

Gilbert Arenas: Free Agent

Arenas is currently a free agent and can be signed by any team. However, he’s had a reputation for being a locker room nightmare in the past. This has the potential to be a high risk, high reward scenario for Los Angeles. It’s just a matter of whether or not they want to take on the risk.

How the hell can any guy cause drama in the locker room if kobe is part of the team….ron artest fought the whole stadium in detroit….and coming to the lakers he didnt cause any problems, because kobe was there. what ended up happening? a title win. gilbert arenas won’t disrespect kobe, nobody will. Loud mouth punks in any sport get put in their place if they are placed alongside a superstar. tom brady and chad johnson…forget ochocinco. kobe and ron artest. superstars might not be able to fight you and put you in your place physically, however if you disrespect them you will never again play your respective sport again because nobody will ever take the chance with you. people are dumb but not that dumb

WHAT THE “F”! They can’t win even against Milwaukee?!? What kind of Lakers do we have right now really?!? The Bucks are a weak team! C’mon LAKERS! Is this how weak you are?!? What kind of an organization are you?!? You can’t even defeat a weak team, which means you’re weaker! I’ve always been a fanatic of the Lakers but I’m very disappointed! VERY MUCH DISAPPOINTED!

Oh yes I do, I am! Which is why I’m disappointed. DUH!

        I mean c’mon, they lose against a Bogut-less and a Jennings-sitting-in-the-fourth-quarter Bucks team? Shish. C’mon!

I know Ricky Rubio is a good fit, Aaron Brooks as well, or even Gilbert Arenas, or Raymond Felton, or Ty Lawson, but please, Deron Williams? Ring a bell? He’s the best of the point guards today! He’s really fast. I mean reeeeeally fast! Especially his first step crossover, man, so hard to defend! He shoots really well, poses a really great threat offensively, passes the ball really well too. They don’t need Dwight Howard. He’s the one the Lakers should pursue and sign!

Deron Williams (trade him for Pau Gasol)
    Kobe Bryant
    Matt Barnes
Marc Gasol/Jeff Green (because they’re restricted free agents)
    Andrew Bynum

We need to go after j.r. smith & karalinko for offense and shot blocking ability.
