Newcomer Kendall Marshall has made quite an impression during his short time with the Los Angeles Lakers this season. The UNC product has quickly become a force to be reckoned with in the backcourt averaging 11.8 assists per game since taking over starting point guard duties.

One player that Marshall has started to build some much needed chemistry with over the past 10 games is four-time All-Star Pau Gasol. Although Gasol’s play has been up and down all season long, the veteran power forward has started to come into his own as of late and appears to be back to form as one of the best forwards in the game.

Ironically enough, Marshall and Gasol have a little bit of history that no one knew about until today. At 11-years-old, Marshall was in attendance for the 2003 NBA All-Star Game in Atlanta and actually took a picture with Gasol according to two-time NBA champion’s Twitter account:

There’s no way Gasol could’ve predicted that more than a decade later he’d be playing alongside Marshall with the Lakers. Amazing the way time flies as Gasol put it and Marshall ending up being his teammate with so many different scenarios having to fall into place in order to make it happen.

Hopefully, Marshall and Gasol can continue to play alongside one another for the foreseeable future.

Damn that is a cool picture.Kendall Marshall was just a little $hit back then and now he is all grown and passing the ball like a all star to the all star Pau Gasol.

TBH Pau Gasol is a all time great player no matter what people want to say about him.Hell he is 33 years old in the twilight of his career, but now that he has that little kid in the picture feeding him the basketball he has been dominating the offensive side of the game. That little $hit Kendall is doing great with Pau.

Before a teammate of Pau Gasol, Kendall Marshall was a fan.

The now 22-year old starting point guard for the Lakers posted the above picture to his Instagram while with Gasol during 2003 All-Star weekend in Atlanta. The 7-foot Spaniard was then in his second season with the Memphis Grizzlies participating in the Rookie Challenge (now known as the Rising Stars Challenge).

At the time, Marshall was 11 years of age growing up in Dumfries, Virg., and was even rated the top player for his age group by one publication.

Marshall went on to play two seasons at North Carolina, earning the Bob Cousy Award in 2012, which is awarded to the nation’s top point guard. He set an ACC single-season record that year with 351 assists.

Prior to the Lakers 102-100 overtime loss, Marshall had recorded at least 10 points and 10 assists in five straight games. He became just the third player in the NBA to record five such consecutive games joining Ty Lawson and Chris Paul.
