On This Date in Lakers History: Sixth Anniversary of Kobe Bryant Scoring 81 Points

By | January 22, 2012|

Kobe Bryant is a legendary player, and by the time he retires will most likely be considered one of the best to ever play the game. His numerous accolades and accomplishments are almost too many to count.

However, one accomplishment stands alone. Six years ago tonight Kobe Bryant had one of the greatest individual performances in North American sports history. Bryant scored 81 points against the Toronto Raptors, leading the Lakers to a 122-104 victory over the Toronto Raptors.

The 81 points were the second highest in NBA history, trailing only the legendary 100 scored by Wilt Chamberlain back on March 2, 1962.

So in honor of Bryant’s unbelievable achievement, here’s a very happy anniversary to the Black Mamba’s historic night.
