New Laker Steve Nash Will Try to Convince Grant Hill to Sign

By | July 4, 2012|

According to Marc Stein of ESPN, new Lakers point guard, Steve Nash will now try to convince 39 year old small forward, Grant Hill, to join him on the Lakers.

Sources told ESPN.com that Nash will try to convince longtime teammate Grant Hill, one of his closest friends in the game, to join him with the Lakers.

Grant Hill has been a consistent role player for the Phoenix Suns for the past few years and has the maturity and leadership qualities that can do nothing but help a Lakers squad who is in championship or bust mode.

With the loss of Matt Barnes to free agency, Hill should be able to provide the scoring and leadership off the bench to help maintain leads established by the starters. Hill averaged 10 pts 4 boards and 2 assists last year while shooting 48% from the field.

For those of you too young to remember, Grant Hill was once regarded one of the best players on the planet before a ankle injury slowed him down. Check out this video to just get a taste of what Hill was and know that this guy knows how to play the game of basketball:

Okay we got steve already, and he’s really old. Don’t get older people. Let’s look at younger point guards to make the bench stronger. Shannon Brown?!

you said pg and than you said shannon brown- shannon is a sg

    • Keithancormier

Wow you say this but why the hell he left in the first place and come back the year after?? Your real smart…and don’t have the caP room anyway

  • Zo

if this happens it’s gonna be a throwback to the 90s!!

Everyone who’s worried about Hill being old, settle down. He’s not going to play more than 15-18 minutes a night. MWP and Ebanks are still on the roster so he won’t have to play a ton. It’s not like we’re building for the future anyway.

if they do get Hill, Ebanks or MWP are gonna be gone.

Best 4th of july ever!!!…i was worried that the lakers weren’t doing anything, but this news made my day. Yeah he’s old but he’s still one of the top PGs in the league.

  • Guildtank

Oh yeah, let’s continue our quest in becoming the OLDEST team in the league… even more so than Boston or Spurs……

    • Liz

Steve Nash may be old but he’s a savvy player and his ball handling skills cannot be denied. Take the Spurs, they were the “old” team in the NBA and they made a deep playoff run this season. Steve Nash should provide a spark to the Laker offense, now we need more role players… I  wonder what will happen with Sessions.

nash and hill are no doubt the 2 best player in the suns.

  • Travellingdocteur

wow, it will be hard to dislike the lakers now, that my fav canadian nba player will be wearing their jersey i hope number 13 is available!!

  • LAWest44

Great move to get Hash, definitely makes them better.  Kobe has never played with a quality point guard like him,  I would probably not sign Grant Hill, he is a great player, but the lakers need to go younger.  They need some shooters, to spread the floor.  Even if Bynum doesn’t go to Orlando, he should be seriously motivated to play with Nash who throws the best passes to the rim that there is.  Bynum can be a beast, hopefully he is growing up, bewcause at times last year, his attitude was horrible.  Without a focused Bynum, the Lakers go nowhere

    • Jaykatt40

@LAWest44, so you’re saying with 5 championship rings, D. Fish was never a ‘quality point guard’? smh….

  • Jayson_callenero

i want him in the lakers..great players worthy for the title.let him experience the championship win

What the Hell are we doing? Now we are older than before.I hope we did not give up any draft picks for this dumb move. Here we go again…Good job Jim Buss..

  • http://twitter.com/LessThanZer04 LessThanZer04

Please do not sign Grant Hill. Go out and get a young player. Rebuild the team MItch. No More trades with getting draft picks. Don’t give draft picks away.

Simply put the Lakers need to get younger,  The NBA top teams are younger and faster, this why we did not pass round 2 of the playoff. We need to start rebuilding now as Kobe only have about 2 to 3 more years left producing at the level hes at now. We have to face the fact now to win tomorrow.

@David Aliaga:  It’s not “reread” stupid, you mean “proof read”.  Yeah, you’re really educated…

  • Dpriest10

sign Hill for 2 years till he retires and by then Ebanks would’ve watched Hill, World-Peace play. He could turn out to be a mixture (Aggressive and a well rounded player.

Getting nash was a smart move w/o trading pau gasol or bynum either.., a nba all-star many times for less money….. Kobe a good persuader… now they can both get 2 rings and close out their career in a good note….a plus would be to get grant hill b/c he’s a good defender as well…. And we have young talent but they need to grow and be develop and now with nash who loves to pass first; new things about to happen now!!

  • arthur garcia

grant hill is to old at least we got kobe gasol steve nash and howard

  • arthur

they should keep bynum and trade gasol for howard gasol is weak bynum is stronger
