Never Question the Heart & Soul of a Champion

Lamar Odom

When people think of Lamar, they think of his natural ability.

At 6’10, 230 pounds, and a 7-foot wingspan, he was born to play this game.

He’s one of, if not the best big man next to Kevin Durant, who can handle the ball with ease. Which often leads to uncontested layups, open jumpshots, or an easier basket for his teammates.

He could easily average 20 and 10 a night, which is why some NBA analysis were so critical of him in his early years playing with the Lakers. But Odom is a lot more unselfish than the conventional player. Almost to a fault.

Lamar doesn’t look to be the number two, or even number three option for the Lakers. He plays better as the playmaker, rather than the finisher. After Phil Jackson decided to have him come off the bench two years ago, he became the front-runner for the Bench Mob, and is averaging 10.3 points and almost 10 rebounds as the sixth man this season.

There are times where he serves as the point guard for plays, getting Kobe in good position for a turn-around post jumper. That’s exactly what he brings to the team. His ability to move the ball effectively within the triangle offense.

The light-hearted but realistic personality he possesses is why the Lakers are able to remain the Western Conference’s best team. He understands that there is always room for improvement, and it keeps the defending champions’ goal in perspective. That goal, is to win their second-consecutive NBA title.
