According to Sean Deveney of Sporting News, Minnesota might be working on a deal to trade Love on the day of the 2014 NBA draft:

Publicly, the Timberwolves are saying they expect Love to be in training camp with the team next fall. But behind the scenes, as one source put it, the Timberwolves are, “paving the way to make something happen sooner rather than later.” Sooner, of course, would be draft night.

With all the talk about Love visiting Boston over the weekend, the rumors have started to circulate about the star forward wanting to land with the Celtics. Boston has some trade assets that might intrigue the Timberwolves and the Celtics have been mentioned as a possible destination for the three-time All-Star in free agency.

Boston isn’t the only team hopeful to make a deal with Minnesota as plenty of other trade partners have surfaced over the past few weeks. The Los Angeles Lakers have been linked to Love more than most teams, but with few trade assets, it is unclear if a deal is realistic.

The Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets have also been rumored as potential trade partners for Minnesota. Both teams are on the cusp being legitimate title contenders and the addition of Love would definitely give either team a much needed boost possibly making them the favorite in the Western Conference next season.

Love leaving Minnesota appears inevitable at this point, but it remains to be seen if it’ll be through a trade or in free agency next summer.

Lakers trade the number 7 pick meaning we draft a Power Forward for the Timberwolves Julius Randle or Noah Vonleh or SF/PF Aaron Gordon whichever player they want and then we also send out Steve Nash to allow the salaries to match up for Kevin Love in exchange and to ease up the burden on us in taking back his big salary of almost $16 million dollars.Plus that allows the Timberwolves to buy out Nash and save money in the process. Then Nash can sign with a real contender or go back to the Phoenix Suns for a 1 year veteran minimum deal and finally end his career on a high note.It works out for all parties involved.

    • Flip Saunders

Why would the t-wolves take the 7th pick and someone as worthless as Nash for Kevin Love when they could get the 6th pick and younger/better players + future draft picks from the Celtics?

As long as Kobe and Nash are taking all of the money, the Lakers will be screwed.

THEN BECOME A CLIPPER FAN – YOU’LL FIT THERE!!

    • kookiebuger

So you’re saying the Wolves will take an old superstar who can barely play 20 games last season and the 7th pick for Love? (who can leave in the offseason (Bulls,Rockets,Knicks) and the Lakers will be in a worst situation if he does since the Lakers won’t have another draft pick until 2016) There are better teams who can make better trade offers like the Celtics or Warriors and it would be silly for the Lakers to trade this pick since they essentially have no future outside of this pick.

      • Thomas Klein

Why would Boston trade half their team to get Love then, if he could leave in a year? I can use the same Locic your implying .

        • 123Star

Hope Sullinger stays and Rondo goes.

        • kookiebuger

But the Lakers are in a worst situation outside of Kobe (for 2 years) the Lakers have no future, there is no guarantee Love will resign with the extra year and money benefits (Howard). The team would be screwed until 2016 when they have their pick then the 2017 pick more then likely goes to the Magic (top 3 protected). The Lakers should just rebuild and build a young solid core with this pick and next years 2015 (top 5 protected, tank) and try to build a young solid core to attract Love and build around him.

        • MJV

No because Love is publicly infatuated with Boston..

      • pcf

better scenario is a sign and trade for pau and something but that cant happen before july 1…no way they give us love for the 7th and nash who should retire…p

    • MJV

As a Timberwolves fan I will tell you the Lakers are the last place we want to send Love, you guys BY FAR have the least to offer..

  • Lamar

    DO IT MITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • All the Raindrops

Warriors are way more attractive. Love doesn’t care what the t-wolves are getting back so he will give his assurances to sign with the team he likes….

  • Dana Douglas

We are now seeing the results of getting so many low-level players and signing them to one-year deals.

    • comrade24

yeah, agreed. we may have a better chance at getting Love at the trade deadline if he stays in Minnesota and we actually have trade assets.

    • Thomas Klein

If they are such low level players, why is there interest in them, Swaggy P will get good offers, as will Jordan Hill, and Bazemore. Ditto for Henery, if the Lakers don’t retain them, it won’t be because they were no good, it will be because they can’t afford to keep them AND keep cap space open for a franchise player.

      • nlruizjr

I wouldn’t label Love a franchise player, he hasn’t taken the Wolves to any playoffs. Plus, he’s just a one dimensional player (offense) all be it a good one but hell there’s alot of good offensive players. lakes need to focus on 2 way players (offense and defense) and quit wasting time on Love, yes it would be great to land him but not a game changer (he’s proven that), hopefully we can land Vonleh, I’d take him any day over Love.

        • Swagzilla

Love is also one of the best rebounders in the league he just needs a good defensive center to mask that part of his game.

        • Al Haldie

          I agree—-

        • cj

Kevin Garnett couldn’t get them to the playoffs either. Was he not a franchise player? Sometimes it’s the organization that’s bad

          • MJV

The wolves went to the playoffs like 7 years in a row with Garnett….

      • All the Raindrops

Those are all below average bball starters with the slight possible exception of swaggy p.

  • numb1lakefan

k love is gone which means melo to LA

  • numb1lakefan

melo is the better fit as my lakers strive to be the best 3 point shooting team in the nba. melo joins the best 3 point shooters in the league including kobe, swaggy p,jodie meeks, ryan kelly. lakers are also looking to draft marcus smart who should be available at # 7

    • kookiebuger

So you want the Lakers to be the worst defensive team? and live and die by the 3?

      • numb1lakefan

now melo is a solid defender i dont want to hear melo plays no d because he does. more so wade and lebron are fully healthy now and to compete with them you will need to pare kobe and melo together

        • kookiebuger

Okay let’s say Melo is a “solid defender” what about Kobe,Swaggy P, Nash, and Kelly? They’re aren’t great defenders.

          • AK

check kobes all defensive team of the year stats , he wasnt that great last year cause they had him guarding young pg’s cause nash is too slow

          • kookiebuger

That’s from the past Kobe’s defensive from the past 2 years have been iffy and the competitor that Kobe is will want to guard the best guard, I doubt he can guard Ellis,Westbrook,Paul,Curry, Bledsoe,Wall,Irving, etc. every night for 82 games.

          • nlruizjr

alot has to do with Kobe’s recovery, if he recovers fully and is at least 90%, yes I believe Kobe can guard those above but the lakers should be a team defense team, that the same system the Spurs use pretty effectively ask KD and RW, they just proved that a old slow team can compete effectively against younger offensive minded teams, hopffully Kobe and the Lakers can follow suit.

          • fdasf

            against westbrook?

          • numb1lakefan

kobe is will still be a top defender especially after training very hard this summer and melo will be the same way with a head coach of byron scott who will implement defense and different attack methods. more so pair melo with meeks, swaggy p off the bench you have the deadliest scoring bench in the nba all of them can get red hot from the 3..were talking show time lakers here

          • kookiebuger

So you’re saying pair Kobe (will be 36 when the season starts, coming off a major injury, and hasn’t played in a 1 1/2) with Melo who is 30 (we can probably get a good 1 or 2 out of him) and just hope it works out? LeBron and Wade works because they’re aren’t the same players, Wade is/was a slasher, LeBron is a playmaker who can also score. Kobe and Melo aren’t that, Melo lead the league in iso’s for the past 3 years (if I’m not mistaken) and Kobe tends to iso a lot as well. Do you seriously not see how Kobe and Melo might not work out together? Adding Melo to a depleted roster won’t fix anything and the team will just be in the same position 4 years from now, it’s better to just rebuild and target young talented players like Lance an unrestricted free agent who can come off the bench, plays defense, make it from 3, and is a solid playmaker (better then Young, not worth the asking price and he is younger) . The Pacers are thinking about letting him go the Lakers should take advantage an offer him a 8-10 million dollar contract he can replace Kobe when he retires.

          • numb1lakefan

melo is a better scorer than lebron and kobe is better than wade you have to pair them together and let byron scott work his magic

          • LakersOverEverything

Numb1lakefan, anyone who tells you melo can’t defend, or won’t fit with kobe should be ignored. Melo is just fine at defense when he chooses to. Hard to give it your all when you’re completely carrying the offense single handedly.
And did that guy just say lebron and wade worked because they play different?? They are the exact same player which is why it didn’t work at first. All they do for points is run fast and jump high on offense. Kobe and melo are the 2 most complete offensive players in the game, and to think they can’t alter their styles is completely foolish and absurd.

          • kookiebuger

Melo won’t be a good fit, he lead the league in iso’s the past 2-3 years, and his defense is spotty. I don’t understand why people are trying to come up with excuses for him Kobe,A.I., LeBron did more with worst players on their team. Melo and Kobe straight up sounds like it won’t work 2 perimeter ball dominant players on the same team sounds like a match made in hell especially at Melo’s asking price. The team can get Rudy Gay who will be cheaper, athletic, can score from the post and perimeter, younger, and shown that he can sacrifice his game with the Kings.

          • LakersOverEverything

Please do enlighten me. When did lebron do more with less?? Lebron has NEVER had a team worse than Kobe’s smush Parker/leave brown team. I really hope you’re not referring to the time when he went to the finals to get smashed by the spurs. The east was soooo weak then. Put Kobe’s 07 team in the east that you’re and he’s playing the spurs rather than lebron. A.I. went to the finals and actually won a game against the juggernaut lakers…..lebron got swept. Have a seat, kind sir

          • numb1lakefan

rudy gay has bounced from team to team because he is injury prone.lakers would need to be desperate

          • Al Haldie

KOBE AND MELO will not work togeather – they both need the BALL in their hands – and that wont work playing them togeather – who do you think would like to come off the bench…?????? ha ha ha ha

          • LakersOverEverything

            1. The same bench we had this past year. You know the one that was the best bench in the league before being forced to become permanent starters.

            2. Lebron and wade have ALWAYS been ball dominant players, but we see how they’ve learned to play off ball.

Seriously, you simple minded lakers “fans” need to get your heads out of your asses. These are the best pro basketball players in the world, not some YMCA players. Of course they can change their games to work together. Smh

          • All the Raindrops

Melo is an solid defender? No.

    • Bucky Gilmore

Lmfao x2 ill take lance Stephenson over This bum younger cheaper and most important plays defensive Gtfo with Melo

      • numb1lakefan

lance will resign with the pacers dream on and melo fits the lakers game plan to be the top 3 point shooting team in the nba.weve been creating cap space for him since last year

        • kookiebuger

The Lakers aren’t planning to be a 3 point shooting team (as far as I know) that’s just how the offense was ran with Mike as the coach.

          • nlruizjr

I agree, why would we want to have a rerun of last season ?

          • numb1lakefan

san antonio has changed the game with the 3 ball but lakers can match there shooters if we get melo

    • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

Melo is an ISO heavy, ball stopping player. Kobe is an aging, recently injured ISO heavy, ball stopping player. Both players demand the ball in high volume. Both players are declining defensively.

Melo is a good player, but he is not a player that would work well with Kobe.

      • wangkon936

Spot on. Too many people on these forums talk with their heart, not with their head.

    • pcf

i would pput mony on either randle ,gordon on vonleah at 7,we already enough pgs….i would luv to have melo but hes gonna want a max deal..p

    • wangkon936

Melo will never be a fit as long as Kobe is on the team. Not enough basketballs for both of them to shoot.

also id rather see a ballboy out there than the lazy pos bynum, how many teams has he burned now since we traded him? lol

      • wangkon936

He is also a ball stopper on offense. A poor fit when you want him to be the 2nd or 3rd option on offense.

    • wangkon936

Bynum as starting center? Hahaha… the dude doesn’t have any cartilage left in his knees. If he plays again it will be for 15-20 minutes a night tops.

  • numb1lakefan

lakers will keep the 7th draft pick hoping that smart is available at 7…smart and bazemore can be the best back court but our second option is vonleh if smart is taken before 7….vonleh and jordan hill together would be beasty down low…kyrie stays with cleveland after getting wiggins, love goes to the warriors or whoever everybody wins

    • All the Raindrops

Smart and bazemore isn’t even a top 3 back court in the division.

  • vdogg

screw kevin love. let him go to a team that guts its roster to get him. i’d rather keep the pick and develop a young rookie.

  • Devon Samuels²⁴

& the Keven Love talks continue smh

  • Godfrey uche

If the pick is Marcus Smart, i will advise you to keep him, he will be terrific point guard and defensive presence that has been missing for quite a long time

  • KB24

Here is the plan trade gasol(8.75) and ariza(7.5) for booz(amn) and jimmy butler. Then trade 7th,monroe and meeks for love and brewer(trade bait or buyout) then swap marshall for payton and let nash mentor him,if embiid is healthy trade our ’19 and 2021 picks for him, swap brewer for dalembert or brewer and hawes for asik amd troy daniels/jord. Hamilton…..farmar,xavier,baze for vets, diaw 10mil/2yr deal. Payton,farm,nash,KB24,troy,xavier,J.Butler,swaggyP,baze,LOve,diaw,EMBIID,asik,sacre

      Drugs are bad….

  • LakersOverEverything

    Forget Love!
    PG smart
    SG Lance Stephenson
    SF kobe
    PF melo
    C Gasol
    6th Swaggy P
    Coach Hollins or Scott
    = title contenders.
Melo is a constant mismatch for any PF and will abuse him. This gives us a decent defensive team with offense to destroy anyone. We can employ the same small ball approach Miami takes.

    • Marty Susman

Forget Gasol & Melo & Smart in the above & add Monroe & K. Irving. Those three can go now & those rate the three that itch should be trying to get, all young men…

    • All the Raindrops

Where’s the frontcourt defense/rebounding? Can’t be title contenders with no size.

  • Sam Saab

hes goin to boston…its obvious since he was there checking out his future destination

  • Vinci

    Not sure if this works…
Lakers give 7th pick plus cash to wolves and they get love from wolves, boozer from bulls and another bad contract from wolves (problem is they lose the 7th pick, absorb boozers contract, give up 2015 flexibility, and have 2 pfs ,need to sign pau as center for cheap, but now has a superstar and a back up pf in boozer)

Bulls give boozer to lakers and taj gibson to wolves (lose boozers contract, only lost taj, kept their picks and they can sign melo and join him with drose and noah)

Wolves give love and another bad contract to lakers and get the 7th pick from lakers and taj from bulls (7th pick will be better than harrison barnes or j lin and taj is better than david lee or omar asik. Plus they lose a bad contract)

  • Marty Susman

Stevenson, Monroe & Irving can all be gotten now, forget the 7th pick & send it off to the Cav’s for Irving, offer Monroe & Stevenson a salary with delayed dollars, like each of the three get the same bucks, $10,000,000 a year until the third year when it goes up making the signings max. Now add Kobe, Now what is NEEDED is a small forward that can shoot who can start & the Lakers could somehow package Gasol & Nash (Salary dump) & pick up a 20th pick in the first round so they can get their wing player….DON’T pick players based on Kobe, pick players based on the future of the team….The Clippers are not going away, they are now the toast of Los Angeles & will only get stronger & more popular as time & money are spent meaning the go to spot in LA is about to change meaning the lakers NEED to do something drastic to stay on top. The Clippers being America’s team would cost the Laker more then a billion dollars in actual worth meaning JEANIE had BETTER do something to make the Lakers POPULAR again & that just might mean overriding Jimmy to bring fun back to the team.

  • wangkon936

The Timberwolves will do what loser organizations always do. They will make the worse decision out of a range of viable options because that’s how they stay crappy organizations. They will keep Love, hoping beyond hope that he will resign. Then he will walk at the end of the season.

  • comrade24

It’s too bad we have ZERO chance of trading for him on draft day. Now, Kyrie on the other hand. that scenario is a stretch, but at least possible.

  • SierraM363

The only way Lakers get Love is if Timberwolves are dumb and don’t trade him for anything. Looks like Love was enjoying his time in Boston.

  • Adrian

I feel like Celtics don’t want Rondo in the future after seeing Danny ainge speaking so highly about Marcus smart, if we trade the 7th pick and they pair the 6th and 7th pick together so we can have Rondo. Rondo, Kobe and melo will only work if Kobe and melo let Rondo work magic with the ball in his hands. it could work out really well.
