NBA Rumors: Houston Rockets To Pursue Carmelo Anthony In Free Agency

Heading into the upcoming NBA off-season, the biggest name on the free agent market could be superstar Carmelo Anthony. Although the potential hiring of Phil Jackson by the New York Knicks may alter Anthony’s decision this summer, the Houston Rockets will be ready and willing to sign the perennial All-Star if he becomes available according to Marc Berman of the New York Post:

“According to a league source, the Rockets will make a bid for Carmelo Anthony this summer, even though they probably won’t have cap space and would have to orchestrate a creative sign-and-trade. The source said Houston asked the Knicks about Anthony before February’s trade deadline.”

Along with the Rockets, the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls will also come calling if Anthony elects to become an unrestricted free agent.

With Kobe Bryant recently saying that he wants the team to contend next season and the Lakers needing to make moves this summer, Anthony signing with the storied franchise could be a possibility. Mitch Kupchak and company will likely pursue Anthony with hoping of bringing him in to play alongside Kobe.

As for the Bulls, Joakim Noah has already reached out to Anthony claiming that Chicago is the place be to win championships rather than Los Angeles.

Despite strong interest from the Bulls, Rockets and Lakers, Anthony still needs to opt-out of his current deal with the Knicks in order to head elsewhere. With Jackson heading to New York and the culture bound to change, there’s no telling what will happen, but Anthony definitely has options if he decides to leave New York.

rockets will be scary as heat when carmelo join in this team..

i disagree. One, i don’t think Melo would mesh well with Howard and Harden. They would also have to deplete their roster to afford him. I see too many chemistry issues coming into play. Let them have him.

Who should really care? Stern, sealed our fate when he blocked us from getting Chris Paul. I hope he can sleep at night.

I don’t understand how the Rockets think this is even possible. The only way is a sign-and-trade, but they’re not giving up Dwight or Harden. I’m pretty sure Phil isn’t going to start off his Knicks tenure by overpaying Asik, and I don’t think he would want Lin either. All that leaves the Rockets is to offer Carmelo a minimum contract…I hope they do it!

Carmelo, if you opt out this summer, Phil won’t want you back. Please go to Chicago and ruin that team; just stay away from the Lakers.

Houston Rockets always puts their head in a players that Lakers are interested in, like Carmelo Anthony, Houston Rockets you are copy cats.

Why? How would adding another “Harden type” player help this team. They need a real “Jason Kidd’ style PG, to run the team with the tons of talent they have.

Takes the pressure off Harden, and giving DH easy look. He is scoring 19 ppg as is, if you give him a play maker, that could go up to 26 ppg.

Houston’s management are smarter than this article.
