NBA Rumors: Carmelo Anthony Waiting On LeBron James To Make His Decision

The original belief was that Carmelo Anthony would make his decision either Sunday or Monday, but now it is Wednesday and no choice has been made. Now we may have an idea as to why.

According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne and Ian Begley, Carmelo Anthony is delaying his decision until LeBron James decides where he wants to play:

A number of rival teams increasingly believe that New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony plans to hold off on announcing any decision about his future until LeBron James reveals where he’ll be playing next season, according to sources close to the process.

If this really is the case, Lakers fans could be in for a much longer wait than originally anticipated.

The thought is that once LeBron chooses his destination, Anthony will see if there is any chance that he could play with his friend. LeBron will meet with Miami Heat President Pat Riley today, but the Cleveland Cavaliers are working feverishly to convince James to return to Cleveland.

If he can’t play with LeBron, Anthony is believed to be choosing between the Los Angeles Lakers or returning to the New York Knicks.

The possibility of a prolonged wait is bad news for the Lakers. They seem to be willing to wait on Anthony’s decision before they make other moves in free agency and it could cost them many top free agents including some of their own.

The team has already lost Jodie Meeks, Jordan Farmar, and Chris Kaman. With players being able to officially sign on July 10, the Lakers will have no means of stopping players from going wherever they want.

If King James is going back to Cleveland then Chris Bosh is leaving the Lakers should focus on pairing up Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony with Kobe Bryant and Julius Randle.Maybe take less than the max but it’s better than going back to New York and playing with crippled Amare Stoudemire and crappy Bargs and overrated Jose Calderon. It’s better to be with this squad Lakers can put together with all the elements of a winner Kobe+Bosh+Carmelo+Randle that’s a bad ass team.Stretch Steve Nash or trade him along with picks.Get it done this is the 12th hour.

    PG Mario Chalmers
    SG Kobe Bryant
    SF Carmelo Anthony
    PF Julius Randle
    C Chris Bosh

Why would you want bosh. A guy who couldn’t defend someone twice his age in the finals. He’s very weak in the paint. All can do is shoot and even then he seems to inconsistent in big moments. I rather take pau is really what I’m saying.

I’d rather have Gasol. Better rebounder, better paint scorer, and wouldn’t ask for a crap load of money like Bosh.

so while melo waits it makes the lakers wait. lakers should forget him and just sign thomas and ariza two for the price of one.

It’ll be good If Melo sign with the Lakers…if not I don’t think we should lose our sleep over it. 90 some millions for a 30 years old player?

Carmelo Anthony hadn’t been a part of any scenario about joining James in Miami, sources tell Yahoo. @FisolaNYDN reports he’s staying in NY.

Within Anthony’s circle, belief’s been this, sources tell Y: Get NY’s $129M now, figure out destination later. You can always get a trade.

New York Daily News Reporting that Melo will resign with New York barring last minute change. will let everyone know tomorrow. Seems like we’re out. Unless He can play with Lebron he’s going back to New York. This sucks! We better get started with Plan B before it’s too late.

Unless the Miami opens up Melo is going back to New York. R.I.P to everyone’s pipe dreams. R.I.P to Mitch’s reputation. R.I.P to Kobe’s title window.

MELO: Call your mother and ask her what she thinks – then ask james because he cant make up his mind either …..

  • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

I guess I’m no fan of being someone’s backup plan. I think it’s about time to start worrying about the rest of the team. Carmelo is big time, but we have too many empty spots on this roster.

  • Sti1lmatic

Mitch better have his “Plan B” morning after pill ready to go tomorrow

  • Lakers4Life

Both LeBron and Melo joining will make us immediate championship contenders. Don’t underestimate all the media hype and endorsements they will both receive in LA — with all that plus money, they can easily take paycuts and earn more than they would with other teams. Simple math really.

  • Al Haldie

JAMES just signed with CLV so its your turn MELO – SIGN with anybody so we can get this going… I just heard it on NBA summer league
