NBA News: Seattle Fans Not Happy With Thunder, Rooting for Heat

By | June 13, 2012|

All NBA fans are well aware of how the city of Seattle lost their SuperSonics to Oklahoma City back in 2008, when owner Clay Bennett packed the team up and moved them to his home town of OKC. Now, with the Thunder in the NBA Finals and favored to win the championship, the fans in Seattle are more bitter than ever.

A recent poll on ESPN and found via The Hoop Doctors shows that there are 48 states in the country with a majority of fans pulling for the Thunder. That leaves two states rooting for the Heat. One, unsurprisingly, is the Heat’s home state of Florida.

The other? You guessed it. Washington.

good grief now i see why the thunder left seattle it was the fans maybe now they can shut up for once when the thunder win the NBA title and the heat fans can stay dreaming cause they are not going to win the finals this year

Regardless of the revisionist propaganda coming from the dozen or so Sonics fans, the team was not stolen, it was purchased.

“I don’t think they stole our team. It’s a business. The NBA is making
money. It’s not a charitable organization. Somebody saw an opportunity
to buy a team and bring something to their city. I don’t see them
(stealing) our team. We gave it away. Our leadership gave it away. Our
politicians gave it away. We screwed up (by not agreeing to build a
facility to replace outmoded Key Arena).”

I’m from seattle, and I’m rooting for the thunder. Not everybody is hating from this state. If Seattle wasn’t so cheap to upgrade the key arena. They would still be here. To bad for the haters up here. Much respect for okc.

All I can say is this did a billionaire go looking for a team and find the Sonics vulnerable to be bought? yes
Did he than buy the team and say unless x type of stadium was built he was moving the team?
    yes
Is this the fault of the state of Oklahoma? NO
We love our team Thunder with the obsession of any single pro sport team state.  We also love the spirit of the Thunder players.  So am I sorry that we have the Thunder? NO.   But saying that do most Oklahomans particularly like all the business shenanigans that resulted in how we got them? Not really.

But still got to say “Thunder UP!”
