With the Lakers struggling through one of their worst seasons in the history of the franchise, many fans are calling for a return to the bench for Phil Jackson.

Unfortunately for Lakers fans, Jackson has indicated that he is unlikely to return to Los Angeles. There is, however, another franchise that he may be going to.

Jackson recently met with Knicks GM Steve Mills about the possibility of becoming the team’s head coach. While Jackson told them he wasn’t interested in coaching, he has expressed interest in a front office role, and according to the New York Daily News’ Frank Isola, is considering accepting a position with the Knicks:

Jackson has long expressed interest in joining a team’s front office, and even helped the Detroit Pistons in their coaching search this past off-season.

Additionally, Jackson is no stranger to the Knicks organization, spending 10 seasons playing for the team, and winning two championships in 1970 and 1973.

A return to the franchise in which he spent the majority of his playing career would make sense for both sides. The Knicks are in disarray right now, posting a 22-40 record, and facing the possibility of losing Carmelo Anthony in free agency.

The chance to build up the franchise he spent 10 years playing for has to appeal to Jackson. While it is unknown which way he is leaning towards, a decision is expected to be made sometime next week.
