NBA News: LeBron James Doesn’t Care About Kobe Bryant, Finals Opponent

The Kobe Bryant, LeBron James debate is one that has been argued since James entered the NBA back in 2003. Since then fans have been clamoring for a James vs. Bryant meeting in the NBA Finals, but so far haven’t seen it.

Now James is back in the Finals for the second consecutive year with the Miami Heat, but he won’t be facing Bryant and the Lakers. In a very candid answer to a rather popular question, James expressed that he isn’t disappointed in not playing Bryant in the Finals to Ben Golliver of Blazers Edge.

“LeBron and Kobe? I was disappointed that LeBron [versus] whoever it was didn’t happen. I didn’t give a damn if it was Kobe or not. Hey, listen, I understand it’s LeBron and Durant — that’s you guys’ storylines. I’m in the Finals so it doesn’t matter. I don’t care who it’s against. It could be us against a college team or high school team.”

Many will look at the quote and whine about LeBron’s arrogance or attitude, but that certainly isn’t the case. James is saying all the right things as his Heat prepare for the Oklahoma City Thunder. It’s not James’ job to do anything but beat the team in front of him, which so far hasn’t been Bryant’s Lakers.

Bryant has had similar responses in the past when asked about an opponent, so James’ answer isn’t that surprising. Still, this certainly will makes fans ever more interested if a James/Bryant Finals matchup ever falls into place.
