After meeting with the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, and Dallas Mavericks, superstar Carmelo Anthony will head to Los Angeles to meet with the Lakers brass.

GM Mitch Kupchak along with Jeanie and Jim Buss will give Anthony their best sales pitch in an attempt to get him to sign with the Lakers. According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, the team is “laser-focused” on Thursday’s meeting:

The top two free agents on the market are Anthony and LeBron James. The Lakers want to land both superstars in free agency, but few believe that is a realistic possibility. Even though signing both LeBron and Carmelo might not be feasible, convincing Anthony to come to Los Angeles might not be out of the question.

Fortunately for the Lakers, Kupchak and company will have the last pitch made to Anthony outside of Phil Jackson potentially taking another shot at keeping his star forward in New York. It will be a difficult task to sell Anthony on signing with the Lakers considering the current state of the team, but the team’s front office might have a few undisclosed plans they intend to tell Anthony about.

Regardless of plans that may or may not be in the works in Los Angeles, the Lakers are a long shot in the Carmelo sweepstakes. Despite being the underdog to land Anthony, the Buss family and arguably the best general manager in the business will give it their best shot with a lucrative deal likely on the table.

Melos coming to L.A. and staying

    • taviyoung

They’re going all in on Melo tomorrow, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they get their guy. For all these people saying they should be patient and wait until next year and all this crap understand this. The Lakers didn’t give Kobe a 2yr. $48 million extension to be patient. They gave him that contract, because they want to WIN NOW! Even if they don’t get Melo, they’re still going to put a team together that will be very competitive.

      • Marcus Franco

hopefully you’re right, otherwise we’ll be fucked

        • taviyoung

Lol. You’re right! This is a very important summer for the Lakers. If they strike out they’ll be screwed for a LONG time.

          • westcoastLALakers4Life!!!

no thy wont all they will do is sign players to 1 or 2 yrs so wen kobes contract expires , theyll have 25m plus added to what they have now to spend , so no we wont be screwed for a long time !

          • taviyoung

Keep thinking that! This is a very important summer. We have to have some type of foundation by the time Kobe leaves or nobody is gonna want to come here no matter how much money is offered, because nowadays the stars care about winning rings. That’s why I say its a huge summer for us, and it can doom us for a while if we fuck up.

        • rajap

          Im going with the latter.

      • j.thekidd

        I agree with you

        • taviyoung

Well there goes one potential target gone. Kyle Lowry just signed back with Toronto.

    • Bryan

The only way the Lakers get a LeBron+Carmelo pairing is by the following.

Trade Steve Nash+Robert Sacre+Julius Randle to 76′ers for a future pick.

Now you can do the math.
      Kobe Bryant $23 Million
      LeBron James $20 Million
      Carmelo Anthony $20 Million

      • taviyoung

Please lets not entertain this. Its no way we’re getting Lebron and Melo. And any competitor shouldn’t want to be a part of a team like that. Three of the top 5 players on the same team. Wouldn’t even feel right winning the championship. I would feel like we cheated.

        • Elsa?

Then you shud tell Magic & Bird that cuz all they had were hall of famers on their teams just saying. Besides looking at the past 2x’s Lakers tried to build a fantastic starting 5: in 04 w/Kobe, Shaq, Payton, Malone loss in finals and in 13 w/Kobe,Dwight, Nash, Pau swept in 1st round. We might want to sign future HOF in their primes

    • Bryan

Lakers would get a future pick from Philly and the draft rights to Dario Saric.

    • Larry

I have a plan for the Lakers to get ride of Steve Nash without trading Julius Randle and this helps get both LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony to sign with The Lakers Purple And Gold.

Sign and trade Pau Gasol to OKC for the Kevin Martin TPE and also get Perry Jones and a 2015 first round pick and then turn around and trade the Philadelphia Sixers OKC 2015 First Round Pick+Lakers 2015 Second Round Pick+Lakers 2019 First Round Pick+Steve Nash+Perry Jones+Robert Sacre in return get a 2015 Second Round Pick from Philadelphia.

That rids the Lakers of the awful Steve Nash contract and it gives the Sixers enough salary to meet the NBA requirement and it adds assets to The Sixers Franchise. It clears $12 Million Dollars for the Lakers salary cap.The Lakers would then Renounce/Void the TPE immediately. Now the cap space is clear for this to happen.

      Kobe Bryant $23 Million Dollars
LeBron James $20 Million Dollars Well Deserved
      Carmelo Anthony $18 Million Dollars
      Julius Randle $2.5 Million Dollars

Total Spent Meets The Salary Cap Limit Before Luxury Tax $63.5 Millon

      • Doug Meyer

Lol first that plan has holes all over it.
Nash at 40?? To Philadelphia?? Hate to tell you but no ones taking that contract. Secondly you got 4 guys signed and are at your cap. Where’s the 5th guy and the quality bench coming from?

        • Elsa?

Well it’s an expiring contract and Philly can buy him out. I didn’t think anyone would help Houston out and take on that horrible contract of Asik but anything can happen with horrible GM’s in the NBA. Lakers can also use mid-lvl exceptions and pay the fine since they got a $3 billion and made profit out of last yr

  • j.thekidd

    C’mon Melo

  • Zimmeredge

Every players, every teams, every deals are locked up because of melo, bosh and lebron situation. All the teams are interested in basically interested in the same players. It’s business agents are trying to get the best deals for their players so they will make a profit of the current situation to increase the value of their players. There is a big demand for them (at least 4-5 teams per player) and so the offer can only increase for now.
We have to wait. We have to be patient. Tomorrow’s our turn then, things are going to go fast.

    • Lakers Fan

Unless the Lakers pull off a miracle, Melo will be in Chicago or Houston. I do know my battery will be dead at work tomorrow because I will be looking at my phone all day trying to keep up with updates lol.

      • Pope Chuck Paul

i see chicago before houston, but stranger things have happened.

      • Jim213

Disagree, IMO Knicks, Chicago, Lakers. Rockette sources took part in the meeting mentioned that it’d be a challenge to pry him off the Knicks but as Phil has mentioned he’d need to take a pay cut.

        • taviyoung

If Melo don’t tell the Lakers what they want to hear tomorrow then I think they’ll move on, and get very aggressive on the market.

        • Badazztj12

Lakers beside the Suns can offer him a max deal, so that does look great for us. Who wants to stay in Phoenix?

  • Jim213

No diss but forget the Melo banners. Just put up a Lakers jersey #7 (no diss X), or #15 atop Staples with the other Laker great’s. That would be better than any banner. Actions speak louder than words (16 titles). Just to visualize what’s in play. Although, Kobe’s jersey will go be up there in a few years.

  • jeremy

shouldnt the lakers give melo a team to come to before waiting to see if he comes

    • jermey kid rapist

he will tell melo who they might be getting or maybe they will be signing some players so melo can make up his mind withint the next 2 weeks. you kid rapist!

      • kookiebuger

That doesn’t make sense, all the good players will be gone by the end of next week they need to make a decision by the end of tomorrow.

  • Valentina Noel

    PREACHING PATIENCE

Well what about dreaming of this starting 5? Lowry/Bryant/Melo/Randle/Gasol That’s arguably what the media say it’s Lakers best case scenario! Even though the chances of that happening are approximately next to none (don’t even consider the one pairing Lebron and Melo in purple and gold since Lebron is not even taking calls…) are we sure that’s a championship team? I understand taking the best available FA’s at the 3 vacant positions may make rational sense… but that doesn’t build championships!
    What do we need then?
    1. A young and capable PG, possibly good at defending (Bledsoe… maybe UFA in 2015?)
    2. A rim protector next to Julius (I don’t see anything significant available here…)
    3. A capable wing player who excels defensively (Ariza surely fits here… but at what price?)

I would welcome Stephenson’s addition since he can play both the 2/3 spot and he’s a good 2-way player but wouldn’t be worth giving up 4 years at 10-12 per year!

    So… what course of action?
    1. Wait for Rondo or Bledsoe in 2015… i’d rather be riding with Marshall/Farmar or a cheap option instead of surrendering cap space… and who knows? Maybe Clarkson can contribute right away at a high level.
    2. The Lakers need a young Chandler-type player… since that’s tough to find: BE PATIENT! (even trading for Sanders would be questionable because of his huge salary)
    3. Get Ariza or Stephenson or whatever decent defensive SF at a reasonable deal

Round out the roster keeping most of our productive bench from last year and just let the team grow!
No reason to wait or trade for Kevin Love now… since Randle might be even better in a few years and playing them together would be a bad fit!
As the Spurs showed it’s not just a matter of talent but a matter of hard work and chemistry!
And in 2016 there would be a guy named KD35! Still want to spend it all?

    • jeremy

gasol base on rumors looks like he could be a thunder since thunder look to be the favorite right now to land him

    • Zimmeredge

Thank you for preaching patience. Fo definitely wants to make a turnaround move or no move. They wońt go in between with free agents in the middle of the crop and stay stuck with guys they’ve overrpaid and they wońt be able to do anything with them.
Although to remain competitive and appealing for the next 2, 3, 4 next summer we need to land melo. If we can’t then we are definitely screwed for 33-4 years.

    • jeremy

people forget him because how badly misuse he was but how about if nothing else bring back kaman. this time actually use him right and scott would sure do that

    • BULL

Lowry stated he ither going to Houston or staying in Toronto.. so do not think of him.. and im done with dreaming.. lets get to business .. If we continue to wait for Melo, we are passing up on Impact guys like Bledsoe, or Lance. we only have 24 mill people enough for one impact player and a good role player .. Lance and Deng/Ariza .. they are so wasting time with Melo .. I don’t get it .. other than the Kobe relationship I don’t get it

      • Daverick Villaflor Reginio

        lowry stay in toronto..

    • taviyoung

We don’t need to look Stephenson’s way at all. A bad teammate and I’m about 100% sure he would clash with Kobe, which in turn would be a distraction for the team as a whole. Pretty much how he did in Indiana.

      • deeznuts562

Wtf lance already resign with pacer

        • taviyoung

          when???

  • 3339

things will get very interesting tomorrow.

  • BULL

why tho?? go after Lance ..

    • LakersGetPG24

      No

      • taviyoung

I agree. We shouldn’t consider Lance at all!

    • deeznuts562

Lance already resign with pacer ok

      • TeddyOrwell

Pacers offered him a deal, but he has not signed anything. He rejected their first offer. So don’t jump the gun yet.

  • independentbynature

That laser is off target. Not gonna happen. If Melo doesn’t care about winning now,he’ll take the most money and stay in New York.Who would you trust to build a winner faster,Phil Jackson or Jimmy Buss? And please no more delusional replies.

    • jeremy

at this rate i would trust phil who has 11 rings. then jim who has nothing but his dad team. i think phil know so much more about basketball then jim does. just look they already dump two players that wasnt working.while the lakers are hoping for melo, at least they got a nice rookie in clarkson

      • independentbynature

I haven’t heard of too many FAs that are dying to come to the Lakers.Jimmy has done serious damage to our reputation. We need to build that back up first before the big FAs will come.”If you build it,they will come.”Just a little Field of Dreams reference…LOL.

        • Kobe Will Get 6

Especially, since the hiring of D’antoni over Phil and Coward leaving to play with Haren (no D cause he doesn’t play defense)

          • independentbynature

            That’s why I call Pringles Antoni.No D there,either.

        • jeremy

he ruin it by signing MD instead of rolling with the coach that had the team doing well till they found a good coach. he rush it when he pick MD. we all want the lakers to get this or that but we all dont know what the lakers are thinking. at this rate they arent thinking so well

          • independentbynature

It seems like they are thinking delusions.Jimmy is in denial about what he’s done to the team’s winning culture.

        • http://www.foxhilldesign.com Josh

When Dr. Buss was in charge, how many free agents did he bring to LA?

          • independentbynature

            Shaq was the big one.

          • http://www.foxhilldesign.com Josh

            Shaq was the ONLY one.

          • independentbynature

That makes it Dr. Buss 1….Idiot son 0.Whats the title score? 10-0 ?

          • http://www.foxhilldesign.com Josh

Idiot son hasn’t done anything to warrant being called an idiot. He talked genius dad into rehiring Phil Jackson, drafted Bynum, and was involved in the Gasol trade, which all resulted in two championships. He traded for Dwight and Nash, which made the Lakers instant favorites to win the title that season–injuries and Dwight thinking he was a low-post threat derailed that run. Idiot son has a legit shot at a marquee free agent this summer, and if he gets him, the total score in free agency will be: Genius dad 1, Idiot son 1.

          • independentbynature

I know I’m very critical of him. But,hiring Antoni to coach Howard was idiotic. That and injuries derailed that run.Bynum was a good call.I’ll give him that.I don’t give him credit for Gasol. There is no evidence that was his call.I don’t agree that we have a legit shot at a marquee FA.Too much damage has been done to the Lakers brand,IMO.But,I hope I’m wrong. We’ll see.

        • Jim213

Agree, built it first tho Lebron coming to LA is best reserved for dream’s. However, At the start of last season Melo’s mentioned that he’d strongly consider joining the lakers in FA. Rumors and the lack of depth likely left him to think differently of this possibility.

However, since Melo’s accepted to meet with the Lakers now just shows their’s still a possibility that he’d consider the Lakers tho FO best start calling/meeting with some good role players to add to next season’s rotation even if Melo comes or not.

          • independentbynature

He’s probably coming as a courtesy to Kobe.Or leverage to get more from the Knicks.Lots has changed in Lakerland since the beginning of last season. Our brand suffered big-time.I hope I’m wrong.I just don’t see it happening.

          • Jim213

It’s a shot contrary to believing Lebron would join. But he was estimated to be paid $23+ million so unless the Knicks are willing to pay him $30+ mil he’d consider joining.

Although, Phil’s stated he’d have to take a pay cut so it’s doubtful. Thus, if it’s a business move it’ll likely cost him 5+mil if he were to take $17-18 mil. IMO, Lakers have a good shot tho it’ll depend on FOs pitch smh.

Lakers are a bigger marketing tool for melo to utilize other business ventures as opposed to the Knicks as the latest franchise profts show. They have a shot tho.

      • Badazztj12

Phil said it doesn’t matter if he leaves or come back. Its not like he is pushing after him

        • jeremy

well i think phil know it not the end of the world if melo leave. i think he know he can build a good team around what he got and what cap space he has. knicks do have nice building blocks in a few young players

          • Badazztj12

That’s why am saying Lakers are the team that can offer him the most money and still maybe compete. Melo wouldn’t put us on his list if it wasn’t true

          • jeremy

true and no other team has kobe yes he older and not as healthy but he still a big deal and a pretty good player

          • Badazztj12

Exactly who still is ready to compete. Kobe did say he was 100%, so that’s great news for us

    • Badazztj12

Rockets Mavs Bulls – he would compete for championship
Knicks – going through rebuild and in it for the money (126 mil)
Lakers – chance to compete and still get money but get a little less than Kicks offering (96 mil)

      • independentbynature

You think Jimmy Buss will build a winner faster than Phil? The Knicks get their cap right next summer.I’d go with Phil every time.Jimmy is an idiot.

        • Badazztj12

I know Jim is a idiot but I don’t think Melo wants to wait another season being at his age(30) IF he does come he will attract somebody good for us

          • independentbynature

He’ll have to wait more than a year if he comes to the Lakers.I hate being so negative about my team, but it’s the truth. No one believes Jimmy knows what he’s doing.

          • Badazztj12

With Kobe and Randle. That’s already looking better than the Knicks and we can add more pieces if we get him to come

          • jeremy

not trying to say who better but knicks got some nice players amre when healthy pretty good they got tim hardaway jr,shane larkin and Iman Shumpert

          • Badazztj12

But they don’t have a experienced coach in fisher. At least he gets to pick the Coach he wants with us

          • Zimmeredge

All those you mentioned are inconsistent and unreliable and there is probability that Phil will use them as trade bait to get picks or players in the rebuilding process.
I rather have Nobody but to have stoud and bargnani in my team.

          • LakersOverEverything

YOU, and a bunch of idiots, don’t believe Jim knows what he’s doing. You guys need to relax and stop being so easily swayed by the media.

          • independentbynature

You and Jimmy are the idiots.I’m sure you two are drinking buddies. That’s where all the Lakers business is conducted now.At the bar.

          • the_lorb

Jimmy and Mitch made the decisions leading up to the last 2 championships… Everybody loved the trade for Dwight and Nash when it went down too.

Lakers have a bunch of cap space. Julius Randle has lots of potential. I see no reason why the Lakers wont win soon.

          • independentbynature

            Whatever…If you really believe that….Whatever.

          • independentbynature

Funny how the Jimmy fans all blame Dr. Buss for hiring Antoni, say Jimmy wasn’t in charge yet.But you want to give him credit for winning our last two titles now, too.Which is it?Or is it both?Jimmy is the greatest of all time.LOL.

          • LakersOverEverything

No one is gloating over jimmy. You just are too blinded by media to form your own opinion. Stop listening to what u see on tv or blog sites and formulate your own opinion. If there’s any brain in that head, I’m sure you’ll see how foolish you sound right now

          • independentbynature

Jimmy is an idiot. That is my own opinion.I don’t have to rely on the media.I know people who’ve met him and I have his track record to go on.The evidence is clear.”I don’t believe in Jimmy Buss.”Magic Johnson.

          • independentbynature

In reality,Jimmy took over when he hired Mike Brown. No titles since then.

          • the_lorb

Dr Buss didn’t want Phil to be in on the family business. The second that he proposed to Jeannie, his fate with the Lakers was sealed.

            Pretty easy stuff to comprehend.

          • LakersOverEverything

Great points, but you can’t tell an idiot anything.

          • independentbynature

I know.I tried to tell you.But you just can’t fix stupid.Change your name to “JimmyOverEverything.”It fits you better.

  • Kobe Will Get 6

    - If Melo stays in New York, it’s for the money and looks to try and win in 15-16.
    - If Melo goes to Chicago, best chance of winning, however takes a huge paycut
(around 15 or 16 which will be somewhere around 64 mill. for 4 years) <– around 65 mill. less than what the Knicks could give him
    - If Melo comes to LA, assumes Kobe will be Kobe, roster will probably be good going into this upcoming season, and lastly it is an attractive destination
    - Houston – probably won't land Melo because no one wants Lin at 15 mill.
    - Dallas – honestly, it's not an attractive destination

If your Melo, you probably would want to stay in the East (Junior Varsity conference), but he will have to go against LeBron every year in the conference and probably lose. The Knicks could be the best place if Carmelo is looking to wait another year to have a good team around him, but you never know he could suffer an injury or the Knicks may not land the right pieces. I think the Chicago contract can really make Melo look at either staying in New York or coming to LA. The only downside to the Lakers is we have no one on our roster (as of now), the western conference is tough, and no one has seen Kobe play (he will be Kobe, don't worry). Let's pray for a miracle LN and hope we land Melo!

    • jeremy

it might be for the money but it also to play for a guy that knows what he doing. in less then a month knicks already improve

      • independentbynature

PJ flat out robbed Cuban in that trade.Knicks got better and younger.I like Chandler, but his best days are long gone.Cuban never should of let him go.Too late to make up for it now.And Felton’s best days were as a Tar Heel.Calderon, Dalembert, Ellington, Larkin and Early. What a steal.

        • jeremy

we cant call it the gasol trade but it up there in bad trades.

          • independentbynature

Everyone cites that trade, but the Grizzlies got Mark Gasol.I’d say it didn’t turn out too bad for them.

          • jeremy

true but at that time marc was a unknown 2nd round pick

      • Kobe Will Get 6

I’m not sure everything will fall into place, there’s Rondo, Love, Gasol, Aldridge, Durant (I believe will be a free agent) – he and Carmelo can’t coexist, but I’m not sure they will land anyone from above besides Gasol, Love (maybe).

I also heard Phil wants Durant, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Phil kind of wants Melo out of the loop.

    • Zimmeredge

Knicks ain’t gonna give him the Max. Phil “the lord” Jackson has already said that publicly. He is asking melo to take a signifiant paycut. So no Max for him and they are well above the cap and luxury. They will have big problems recruiting fa along the way if they dońt reduce their payroll. The cba will cut knicks’ legs on the market as they are multiple offenders like three or four years in a row.

      • Badazztj12

Damn so that makes Lakers the only team that he can get a max from.(96 mil) I think we may have a chance

        • Zimmeredge

Maybe or maybe not. I hope so.
I dońt Know if they are going to give him the Max in la too. Maybe something similar to a Max contract like 80m 4y or 90y 5y.
I dońt Know if we are willing to keep Nash or not tho.

          • Kobe Will Get 6

Do you think it would be best to keep Nash to get him off the books or use the stretch provision?

          • Badazztj12

using the stretch if we sign melo would be great

          • Zimmeredge

Agree with badazz it will give more us more flexibility to hire role players. Down side we won’t have flexibility next summer. And if Nash gets back to a decent back level production just for 50-60 games he shower last season that he could still play well. Worth the risk. We will see.
People we dont really need fill roster’s spot will sign elsewhere imo. Xavier, bazemore, Hill, kaman, farmar, young are still fa and they are probably our best gap fillers in any or most of the case.
Pau is so useful if we wanna glue this team together but will he be willing to take a paycut for us if we assemble a great Time? Will he go elsewhere for free? Or a sign and trade? I do not Know that.
We are just focusing a thousand percent on melo right now. On whether we have him or not we will Choose our coach and then build the roster.

          • Badazztj12

I’m sure if Melo comes he will take a paycut am just interested in the coach. I know its most likely Scott but is Lakers looking at a unkown coach?

          • kookiebuger

The Lakers can’t offer a 5 year contract unless you have his bird rights (thanks to the new CBA).

          • Badazztj12

Reporters been saying we can offer him a max 96 mil deal, So am not saying you are wrong but should check it out again

          • Zimmeredge

Anyway we will give him a better contract than all the teams engages in the process

        • the_lorb

The Lakers who flat out bring in the most revenues in the league from all avenues. Being a star on the Lakers transcends being a “sports star” and that = $$$

          • Badazztj12

            Exactly

          • vdogg

truth! being a star on the lakers is worth more than being a star anywhere else, including new york.

  • jeremy

all honest i think lakers should forget melo and just sign lance, farmar or nelson, deng and monore or kaman. then add kelly to back randle and sign kane to back kobe

    • Zimmeredge

We wońt go in a spending spree like this during the summer. I’m sorry to tell you this but it does not seem that this is the plan. Being Ready to do something spécial for melo does not mean we wanna give those dollars to lance, deng or Monroe who are likely to be overrpaid. If we sign those guys for 4 or 5 years we will be far away from superstars for a long long Time i fera. Even if Bryant is retiring in two years and that will open the cap Space a little bit i don’t think you’ll be able to acquire durant two years from now.

    • jeremy

      PG lance,farmar or nelson,clarkson
      SG,kobe ,kane
      sf deng,( )
      PF randle,kelly
center monore or kaman and sacre.

      • VillainKing

SF can be Luol Deng and Roscoe Smith in that roster..

      • LakersOverEverything

Wasted money that will take us no where.

        • independentbynature

That’s what I call Jimmy’s salary….”Wasted money that will take us nowhere.”

          • LakersOverEverything

Cool story, dude. Not sure where jimmy came up in my reply tho

  • DKWTTY

It all boils down to what Melo cherishes more, money or winning. I would fine it insane to stay with New York but with these players these days you never know. If I were him I wouldn’t go to Houston with those two black holes in Harden and Howard so I’d either pick between the Lakers and Bulls.

  • Jimbuss sucks

Jim buss, don’t have any bussines making decisions on the team let alone trying to convince Anthony to sign with us, he is going to blow the deal like he is doing signing a coach, he already blow the opportunity of Lionel Hollins and maybe George Karl.

    • jeremy

if hollins such a great coach why hasnt he got a new job or even better yet why did the warriors, knicks and cavs all pass on him and most likely lakers were going to too. it much mean he not the coach everyone thinks he is.

      • independentbynature

He just got hire by the Nyets,Jeremy. He’s a good coach, but I’d rather have Scott.

        • Badazztj12

Hey where can I find him saying that he will install a post up offense?

          • independentbynature

Sorry,I’m not sure exactly where I read that.It might have been on here.I think it was an article on Pau still considering the Lakers now that Antoni is gone and how he wasn’t used very well last two seasons..It was a few weeks ago.

        • jeremy

i dont think the nets owner knows what he doing really.

          • independentbynature

Well,he was smart enough to let Kidd go,but dumb enough to hire him in the first place.

  • Blake

What is everyone’s problem on here? I understand wanting to save money, rebuild, develop players etc. What I don’t understand is people not seeing the potential of Melo and what that could do. Melo, Kobe, Randle, Stephenson, along with some great role players could win a championship. Yes, I just said that. Hard work and a great coach and we could be raising another banner. The FO obviously believes this to or they wouldn’t be chasing melo. LA is title town, and that’s what the Lakers are going for, regardless of what everyone’s comments are on here. Melo in the lineup could potentially put us over the top. Hello, the old tim duncan Spurs just one the ship, and last year it was Lebrick and Dwayne Wade. We are the LAKERS. We have Kobe Bryant… Quit acting like he is some scrub.

    • Brandon A. Benitez

I couldn’t agree more with you. We just had the worst season in Laker history since we moved to LA and we still had the highest revenue of any other team in the NBA. I think we have a good chance at landing Melo so I believe tomorrow is going to go very well. These other pessimistic fans only look at what’s wrong with our situation instead of the positives. This summers FA may not be as good as next years but you can get some SERIOUS talent and potential. Things will change for the better this season

    • independentbynature

This FO believed Dwight was staying, too. So,what they think doesn’t really sway me.They are delusional.

    • LakersOverEverything

You and Brandon are right. The sad truth is that the laker fandom is full of idiots, who know nothing of basketball.

      • independentbynature

It’s the Jimmy Buss fandom that is full of idiots. Are you the president of the fan club?

  • kobe4lifeph

Better to get Stephenson/Bledsoe/Ariza/and a good/healthy Center. Let the Black Mamba do the scoring, if they were lucky enough to lure Melo in L.A. I think it would take time before Kobe and Melo gel together. Both are dominant with the ball and they are pure scorers. I think 2 pure scorers aren’t healthy for a team who’s running a triangle offense. Better to haver a scorer and a facilitator. Besides Melo isn’t a great defensive player. L.A needs to work on Defense right? Remember the last 2 seasons? Where is the D? I missed MWP..

  • inglewow

if any free agent was smart they should be a Laker…LA, Lakers, Tradition, Legends, Greats, Championships, Weather, Women, and Snopp Dogg..

    why not come to LA?

  • LakerDev

I sure hope the Lakers aren’t caught sleepin. While waiting on Melo to decide, I hope they don’t loose out on other FAs. To me Lance would be a great pick up, as he plays O & D, can facilitate, can score, rebounds, and is competitive. Bledsoe makes me nervous b/c of his knees. Besides Melo and Lance, I like Lowry, Ariza, Gasol, S Hawes.

  • Nalin Shukla

We have no team or coach it’s gonna be tough to woo him to think we’re gonna contend in the west especially…I think he goes with Noah and rose or harden and Howard or take the money and sticks with the Knicks *rhyme*

    • LakerDev

I can see the Bulls, but the Rockets wouldnt work. If Harden can’t flop his way to the FT line he’s useless, because he plays no D and holds the ball. Howard will cry if he don’t get the ball, so either Bulls, Lakers or Knicks, IMO

    • Badazztj12

We have money Rockets and Bulls dont

  • j.thekidd

I just hope Melo makes his decision by the end of the day tmrw.. And don’t make us waist our time ..

    • LakerDev

      Agreed!

  • Roy Nakamura

melo will be a laker by the end of tomorrow!!!he’ll be shopping for houses with kobe too…lol

    • Roy Nakamura

      nash have to go!

      • taviyoung

He will be, and he should give them their money back because he didn’t give them shit!

  • LegendInMyMind

    Rather get Pau back, honestly…

  • rival almighty

Tomorrow when the Lakers meet with melo, Jeanie should tell melo let’s take a lil drive, have Kobe surprisingly waiting in a gym and tell him you wanna see if Kobe still has it? Play him one on one if you lose you sign! game over!

    • imacRuel1

      best comment I’ve read ;)

  • rajap

24/7 Part 2? Yeah right, on to the next.

  • Noro

Best case scenario is if carmelo signs with us fast and we go after stephenson. Wouldn’t mind seeing a lineup featuring stephenson/kobe/melo/randle/(gasol or hill)

  • Bruce

This just in, rumor going around Bulls ready to amnesty Boozer, making room for Melo, meaning he might be head to the Bulls.

  • AK

Does anyone else see that Phil Jackson is a Laker recruit, sent to infiltrate the knicks to bring carmello to the Lakers, he even gave Fisher a retirement job that pays better than what he had last 2 seasons. Or maybe its just me we’ll see.

  • Doug Meyer

Honestly. Lakers have no shot. First off he’s going there to play nice and hear their pitch. That’s as far as it’ll go. Carmelo has consistently stated he wants to win now. Your not doing that with a team of Bryant,Nash and Melo. Especially in the west. Nor does mellow want to be part of a rebuilding project(which will happen in 2 years). Why is he interested in leaving n.y.? If he goes to any team in the west(highly doubtful) he’s going to Houston. If Carmello is about winning now(like he says) he’s no doubt going to go to Chicago(instant favorites)in the east. If he lied and the money only matters, its n.y. and he’ll probably never get his ring.

    • Zimmeredge

There is no team out there who will respect his superstar status financially or on court. No teams are immediate winner. He will make all those teams immediate contenders but thàts all. East is getting stronger year after year look at the hawks, the raptors, Charlotte, he wiz add to that the heat, pacers, nets and celtics. It will be very hard to get to the po and to get to the finals in the east.

  • Laker4Life

Everyone keeps saying Lakers have no shot but i think they have the best shot outside of the knicks. LA is the only place he can get a max contract and even if its not max he can make up that in endorsement in that big a market. On paper bulls, houston look good. But every year teams look good on paper and turn out to be garbage you have to look at the (long term) not short term. When did winning a championship become so easy according to everyone who thinks bulls are best choice. Taking $15 mil a year (which aint gonna be $15 mil after taxes) to become a favorite is not a smart decision. Esoecially when your 30 and probably won’t be able to get another max deal 4-5 years from now.

  • SUPER GIRL

THOUGH HOUSTON MIGHT BE A BETTER TEAM RIGHT NOW! BUT MELO THINK HOW YOUR LIFE AND LALA’S LIFE WOULD BE LIVING IN HOUSTON!! WHAT IS THERE TO DO?? HAHAHA!! MOST PLAYERS HAVE HOUSES IN LOS ANGELES RIGHTFULLY SO!!! IT IS ONLY STUPID DWIGHT THAT WENT TO HOUSTON BECAUSE HE HAS NO BRAINS AND LET ME TELL YOU NOW!! IN 2 YEARS IF DWIGHT CAN NOT GET THAT CHAMPIONSHIP THAT HE THINKS HE WILL GET – WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU AND DWIGHT!!! JUST COME TO LA!!
