The Los Angeles Lakers are still in the process of finding out as much information as possible before making a decision on who to select with the second overall pick in the NBA Draft, and that can be a grueling process for prospective picks. They have to be ready physically for a difficult workout from teams while being prepared for a number of questions that will be asked both by the team and the media.

For players like Lonzo Ball, it’s like a job interview but with the added pressure of a professional-level physical challenge added in.

All that, added to the uncertainty of not knowing what city they will be spending at least the next few years of their lives in, can make the draft a stressful time for a young athlete. Fortunately, there are still opportunities to have some fun, as Lonzo did in a hilarious Father’s Day commercial for Foot Locker:

It’s good to see that Lonzo has the ability to poke fun at his dad, LaVar, and their family’s sometimes surreal public life. While the Lakers have insisted that their decision on whether or not to draft Lonzo will be made based on his quality as a player and not his father’s antics, there have been lingering questions about whether that is true behind closed doors.

Lonzo going to dinner with the team without LaVar sent a positive message that his dad won’t be a distraction and allowed him to show his personality a bit. He’s usually very reserved and quiet, but the Foot Locker commercial allowed Lonzo to showcase his comedic side a bit, as his deadpan responses played perfectly.

We don’t know for sure which team Lonzo Ball will end up playing for, but the self-deprecating commercial certainly won’t hurt his public image.
