Mike Brown Will Keep Steve Blake in the Starting Lineup

The Los Angeles Lakers traded for young point guard Ramon Sessions to improve at that poistion, but it seems as though Sessions is not guaranteed a starting role with the coaching staff. Sessions is no doubt the quickest and most athletic point guard on this team, but coach Mike Brown will still have him coming off the bench, Dave McMenamin of ESPN Los Angeles writes.

“I don’t want to guarantee anything or put anything in stone because I don’t know if it’s healthy to do that all the time,” Lakers coach Mike Brown said. “It’s definitely Steve’s job for the foreseeable future and it might be his job for the rest of the year. I don’t know.”

Sessions played well in his first game with the Lakers as he scored seven points, dished out five assists and had three turnovers. As for Blake, he did not score a single point but had six assists and zero turnovers.

This Laker back-court is surely more talented than the one in the beginning of the season, and the team does not lose much of a step when either Sessions or Blake are on the court. However, based on his quickness and ability to defend faster point guards, Sessions may end up getting the starting spot.
