LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony Giving ‘Consideration’ To Lakers Offer

Share on FacebookTweet about this on Twitter

Heading into free agency, most believed LeBron James would re-sign with the Miami Heat while Carmelo Anthony would sign with the Houston Rockets or Chicago Bulls. Since the Los Angeles Lakers have met with both stars this past week, things have possibly changed according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne and Chris Broussard:

Los Angeles met with LeBron James’ agent Rich Paul on Friday, and the four-time MVP is giving similar consideration to what the Lakers have to offer, according to sources.

While the Lakers were not expected to sign either player, having Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Julius Randle, and no long-term salary has been a strong selling point:

The Lakers pitch — of teaming Anthony with Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, prized rookie Julius Randle on a team with no long-term salary obligations — made what one source described as a “strong impression” on Anthony and has made his decision over the holiday weekend “tough” according to another source close to the situation.

While Pau Gasol is a free agent and has received a lot of attention so far from championship contenders, there is belief he will quickly re-sign with the Lakers if they are able to land Anthony or James this summer.

Although the Lakers have offered both players the maximum of four years, $97 million in their meetings, there is a scenario where both stars could sign for around $16 million per season. In addition, the Lakers could also use the stretch provision on Steve Nash to clear up further cap space.

    duh…

    • JusRite

I don’t get the better business opportunities in LA or NY at all NY is the #1 market for media/business.

      • Tune

While that’s true, LA is the biggest in terms of creating a brand.

      • Jwhitlock

Because its not entirely true ne more. There isnt really more opprotunity in NY in 2014

      • Jim213

Kobe’s own brand help him bring in $31 mil in endorsements. Lebron’s who’s at the top of the league earns $54 mil in endorsements. Even K Durant who’s in a small market manages to pull in $14 mil in endorsements.

While D Rose who’s been out for 2 years literally banks in $19 mil a year in endorsements and yet Melo manages to only bring in $8 mil in endorsements while in the biggest market? The Knicks brand that coincides with Jim Dolan has hurt Melo’s own brand.

      • J Taylor

LA has 19M people in a solid land mass of cement.
NYC Has 29M people in 3 cities.

LA has China to the west.
NYC has Europe to the East.

        LA has Hollywood.
        NYC has Broadway.

LA has 16 rings and a legacy.
        NYC has Dolan.

    • Business Man LA

The Lakers are by far the most popular NBA team currently and ever.Just off the merchandise sales and commercials and shoe deals both LeBron and Carmelo will see a 70% raise in current income no matter what anyone says LA is always the best place to make money for a superstar regardless of the field they are in whether it be Basketball,Baseball,Acting,Movies.

Now if you want a few examples just look at Chris Paul before he got to LA to play for The Clippers he was a hidden gem in a small market New Orleans nobody hardly knew who he was and he was hardly ever on TV well now he is always on TV and everyone knows who he is and he is making all sorts of commercials and making huge money compared to before.Blake Griffin is making huge money at such a young age and he is all over the TV with commercials and endorsement deals.

When Wayne Gretzky came to The LA Kings he got way more famous and had way more TV exposure and much more money and fame than before he came to LA.

Clayton Kershaw of The Dodgers is making huge money and he is more famous than any player in MLB.

Yasiel Puig is a huge sensation for The Dodgers and he is all over the media and TV side of things.Kobe is very famous and extremely rich from being a Laker and he has 5 championship rings for sure.Yes LeBron and Carmelo will greatly benefit from being Lakers.

      • Jim213

Melo will benefit being he brings in $8 mil in endorsements while Lebron makes the most dough in endorsements (NBA) @ $54 mil. KB24 still manages to pull in some top endorsements adding up to $31 mil a year. Not bad for a so called player who’s supposedly seen on his last legs.

  • LakerSpartan117

Oh shit….Now I don’t like Lebron very much, mostly because these ridiculous ESPN analysts keep calling him greater than Kobe and possibly MJ.

But if Lebron does leave Miami to team up with Kobe and Melo, then his legacy will be tarnished for good and can never be greater than the likes of Kobe, MJ, Bird, Magic, and Robert Sacre…. ;)

He will always be known as a “hired gun”…… So come to LA Lebron!! Join Melo and Kobe, and let’s win a championship!!! #17 for Lakers and #6 for Kobe!!!

    • courtney harris

Exactly! The works greater player shouldn’t always team hop. Other players should want to play with him.. Hint Kobe got nash Dwight shaq etc

      • J

Kobe didn’t get Dwight or Shaq though.

        • courtney harris

thats not what i meant. if you want to technical, they joined a kobe lead team instead of kobe ring chasing..

          happy now :)

          • Jooho Kwon

Actually Kobe came after the signing of Shaq…and the first three rings came with a Shaq led team…

          • Mike

            No genius Kobe came first.

          • vaMagic32

            Exactly. ..all these experts…haha..go Lakers

          • Leon Jackson

            No Shaq came first.

          • Mike

Kobe was drafted by the hornets for the lakers (they already agreed to a deal before the draft) on June 26 ’96. Few minutes after he was drafted, it was announced that Kobe Bryant would be traded to the lakers for divac. It became official a week later. Shaq was signed on July 18 ’96. How do you idiots keep saying Shaq came first? I understand if you guys are bandwagon fans or new to the lakers, but it’s 2014…the info is on the internet. A simple search will help your ignorance.

          • joohoo stupid

            retard dont even start

          • A Fan

You idiot. Not only did Kobe arrive before Shaq, the first of their 3-peat in 2000 was the only Shaq-led team. 2001 and 2002 saw both Shaq and Kobe as the Alpha Males of the team. Shaq may have been finals MVP, but their contributions on the court were equally lethal.

          • LakersOverEverything

Who liked this false comment 8 times?

          • courtney harris

someone who doesnt like me commenting on here and wanting to quietly attack lol

          • courtney harris

shaq didnt win a ring until kobe was in the starting lineup lol – but at at this point im just messing with you man

          • Thomas Klein

Sorry to break this to you but Jerry West traded Vladi (our current center) for the draft rights to Kobe, BEFORE we had signed Shaq, that’s why it was such a gutsy move, Vladi was in his prime, and a very good passing and remounting 7 footer.

          • Leon Jackson

Without Kobe Shaq wouldn’t have gotten them with Shaq Kobe wouldn’t have gotten them both were leaders on that team.

    • comrade24

i’m not a Lebron fan either but let’s be real, If Lebron James decided he wanted to live in Reno, Nevada there would be an expansion team next year in Reno. He’s the face of the league right now, just the way Kobe was a few years back, and MJ before him. The difference is most of those guys stayed with the same team their whole careers, but they’re a dying breed. Kobe and Duncan may be the last of their kind. Maybe Durant will stay in OKC but if they don’t at least get back to the Finals before he hits FA i won’t be surprised if he leaves too.

  • Eric Cartman

Hopefully we land at least one of them. It’d be a miracle if we got both.

    • Johnny

It would be a miracle if we even got one. I would love to get even just one but the lakers aren’t at the top of the list for either player. Money talks. NY offers the most money and melo will probably stay there. Sadly.

      • Jim213

Yes, money talks and if he’s looking at the big picture (NBA business) the Knicks have affected the growth of his own brand. Melo only makes less than $8 mil from endorsements is good but given it’s the biggest market in the country there’s some issues going on aside of basketball. .

Yet Kobe’s endorsements deals bring him a cool $31 mil per yr. given his global appeal (Lakers brand). Lebron’s taken advantage of his own brand as his endorsements accrue to $53 mil! It’s fair to say that Melo is one of the top players in the league who’s business dealings likely haven’t fared out as he’d like IMO.

Derek Rose’s been out for 2 seasons literally and his endorsement deals bring him close to $19 mil per year!#!. Not bad for missing the past two years. While Kevin Durant’s endorsements bring him $14 mil a year. Melo’s still making good money but IMO he should be making double what he makes in endorsements. Don’t see this changing anytime soon if he returns to NY..

        • JusRite

Melo doesn’t make the Kobe endorsement money not because he’s in NY but because he hasn’t’ spent his entire career in a major market and he doesn’t have any championships or MVP’s the league doesn’t like Melo very much hence ESPN ranked him as a worse player than Kyrie Irving.

          • LakersOverEverything

That’s true. I’m not sure why espn treats melo the way they do at times

          • Jim213

It’s more a Jim Dolan issue given the false promises in NY. He didn’t even bother to take part in the Knicks pitch last week. Yes, Phil will make things happen but it’ll take 4+ mil to see the Knicks reach contention in a consistent type of sense.

      • Thomas Klein

I love the way everyone says it’s so much more money, only because it’s for one more year, and that view ignores the fact that Melo will still make something in that 5th year with the lakers, just like Kobe has, at the end of his carrer, so add another 20 mill to the 97 mill offer, and there pretty close. Remember it’s the leagues rules that prevent the Lakers from offering him five years, not the Lakers.

        • rival

And add 2 rings to that 20 mil

    • DKWTTY

You are going to be very disappointed then.

  • Russell

They come as a packaged deal it’s been said all along and i vouch for Stephen A. Smith he said it before the season ended and during the playoffs and after the 2014 playoffs.Stephen A. Smith said LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony have talked constantly about wanting to play together in this free agency they will do it he was 90% to 95% sure trending upwards towards 100%.

    • J Taylor

That fantasy bubble has burst…. Outside of Phoenix, no team can offer BOTH a max contract.

And, if Lebron were going to take $16M he’d stay in Miami.
If Melo were going to take $16M he’d go to Chicago or Houston.

      - Come to terms people.

  • nash gots to go

I said this before here and everyone thought I was crazy:

PG: MCW (via Steve Blake TPE)
    SG: Kobe
    SF: LeBron ($17m/year)
    PF: Melo ($17m/year)
C: Pau (via room exception 2 year contract, no trade clause)

Coach: Mike Krzyzewski (via $75M 5 year fully guaranteed contract)

Steve Nash and Julius Randle unfortunately, will be gone to make this all happen.

    • LakersHeatBeef

      You’re onto something man,that’s the way it’s looking.Mitch is a god.

    • LakerSpartan117

I’d rather put LeBron at the PG and keep Randle and the PF. If this all goes south, we need our future cornerstone pick in Julius.

      • nash gots to go

Randle would have to be gone (with Nash) to make cap room unfortunately.

        • LakerSpartan117

If they stretch Nash they’ll have enough cap room to sign them both.

          • nash gots to go

If they stretch him and do not pack randle with him, they have $6 million less in cap so that means bron and melo would have to agree to sign for about $14m/year, way below their max.

          • LakerSpartan117

How much cap space would they have if they got rid of Nash and Randle?

          • nash gots to go

$34m cap space if they got rid of them both. $28 million if they kept randle and stretched nash.

          • LakerSpartan117

Ramona Shelburne just said they could offer them both 15-16 million each without getting rid of Julius Randle!!! BOOM

          • LakersOverEverything

That would be LOVE! Btw, where did u find that?

          • LakerSpartan117

She just said it on Sportscenter, they’re on baseball now. But Nash still got to go

          • LakersOverEverything

Ok thanks man. That team would literally win the next 4 championships, quality bench or not

          • J Taylor

Randle doesn’t count toward the cap yet (until he signs). Draftees are exempt from salary cap issues and do not create a cap hold.

        • wat.

explain to me how the 76ers would take randle when they have noel and embid. did you even think about the trade when you put that down?

          • courtney harris

thank you. laker nation is of this believe that ANY TEAM IN THE NBA will aid in the lakers getting lebron and melo. lets not be stupid in a public setting.

        • Zimmeredge

Lol randle have the same wage that mcw has…

      • LakersOverEverything

That would be the Showtime lakers 2.0

      • VillainKing

Yeah, Julius Randle will become a great player in the NBA than MCW!!!!!!

    • Alvin

Makes perfect sense.Great lineup and great coach.Champions HOF guys.

    • Melobron

Mcw how we getting him by trading randle embid and Noel will be playing together what’s randle playing sf hahhah mcw is out of the question but lebron and melo is more realistic

      • nash gots to go

        3-team trade possible.

    • courtney harris

75 million dollars. Dude you are a dream world. We won’t get both. Stop media into the media who keep posting fake sources & will post anything to get clicks on their sites. Calm down

      • nash gots to go

This is the only leverage Lakers got. Let Bron and Melo pick the Coach. It would be hard for Coach K to turn down that kind of money after he repeatedly turned down many offers to coach in the NBA.

        • courtney harris

          15 milion dollars ….

          15 million dollars

    • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

I’d probably have a heart attack if that happened.

    • Badazztj12

      shut yo stupid ass up

      • LakersOverEverything

        Lol why so hostile?

        • Badazztj12

This shit don’t even make since

          • LakersOverEverything

It’s actually possible, other than the coach k nonsense.

          • Badazztj12

Really think 76ers giving up MCW for Randle when they have two future big men in Noel and Emiid. Get real man

          • LakersOverEverything

Oh no, my bad. I totally disregarded that part. I doubt they’ll get rid of their nice pg prospect. Landing both melo and lebron is what I was referring to as possible

          • LakersOverEverything

We wouldn’t need MCW anyway. Lebron fills the PG spot and abuses every night. Lebron, kobe, melo, randle, pau is unstoppable regardless of what bench you sign with the rest of the money

          • Badazztj12

Wow you really think Mitch is going for that? Get real dude

          • LakersOverEverything

Isn’t this whole discussion based on the hypothetical that Mitch is indeed going for this?

          • Badazztj12

Putting Lebron at pg lol. “regardless of what bench you sign”. When did you start watching basketball?

          • LakersOverEverything

            1. I’ve watched and played basketball all my life. You should try sometime
            2. Lebron plays pg already basically, and even says he models his game towards magic more than anyone.
            3. Yes a starting 5 of lebron, kobe, melo, randle, and pau will beat any team. Not much money is needed because decent players will line up for vets min to play with these guys. Hell, our bench from last year would be sufficient anyway
            4. If you think that team doesn’t compete for titles, you are indeed the fucking fool Rival says you are
            5. Let’s not use that condescending tone. A battle of wits is something you will not win, I assure you. Not anyone who spells their name badazz anyway. Fucking joke

          • Badazztj12

Ill just let you live in your dreams, (that will never happen). Its clear that fans like you are stupid like you that think we have enough cap space for Lebron and seriously believe the 76ers will trade for trade for Randle when they have two future big men already(Noel and Emiid). I am through talking to your dumbass because guys like you don’t learn about the salary cap and CBA rules before commenting. Go ahead and have the last word but you know what I am saying is right and you will try to by pass it

          • rival

You already said all this like in the last 10. Articles. I’m telling you, you’re an idiot bro.

          • LakersOverEverything

He really is. I don’t even know why he keeps repeating himself. Isn’t the whole purpose of commenting on these articles to discuss the content?

          • LakersOverEverything

Bitch, go read a book to get your comprehension level up. I never said we were trading anyone. I never said we would land lebron and melo either. I have been discussing hypotheticals (maybe you don’t know what that word means) about the possibility of it happening, only because of the recent articles. Not even sure why you’re talking to me

          • Kari Brady

His debate didn’t involve the 76ers trade. Look at his starting lineup!

          • courtney harris

clearly didn’t watch the finals. the bench was everything. the starting 5 must sit down eventually.

          • LakersOverEverything

            1. The finals is a terrible example because their starting 5 was shit. More like lebron, and 4 bench players from the way they played all series
            2. Just because they are the starting 5 doesn’t mean you HAVE to play them together at all times. You mix and match.
            3. Having lebron, kobe, melo, pau is unstoppable dude. You can have any 2 sit down at any time, and still have a dominate 1-2 punch in the game

          • courtney harris

a star studded team is not going to win a championship. simple as that. you need a bench, and you need to be deep (if you can). injuries, off nights, fatigue… all of these things happen.

          • LakersOverEverything

Yes it will. Plenty of decent players will line up to play with this 5. Last year’s bench could get the job done anyway. You rotate the stars so that they can help carry the bench. Lebron and pau could carry the bench if they rest first, while melo, kobe, and randle continue to do work with 2 other players

          • courtney harris

i like melo and kobe because the chemistry would fit better. lebron needs to be in a system that can create turnovers and run. i dont think that would be best for kobe and pau. they are better suited for offensive of chemistry, and system basketball. melo could be well integrated because he is older, whereas, i believe lebron needs to head to a younger team (aka CAVS). They can run, move, and cut…plus they have a great young core for lebron to FINISH his career there.

          • LakersOverEverything

I can agree with all that. If I had to choose one it would be melo for all the reasons you listed. It’s crazy cause I was just telling someone the other day how good Cleveland could be if lebron went back. Kyrie, wiggins, and lebron?? Great core, and varejo actually rebounds. Could be a beast team….better than the current heat, anyway

          • courtney harris

agreed. glad to see some of us can have decent debates.

          • rival

Stop doubting the Lakers and Mitch idiot! And I’ll stop calling you an idiot. Idiot!

          • Badazztj12

Explain why would 76ers trade for Randle with future big men? I want it in full detail. I don’t give a shit what you say

          • honestly

because Embiid and Noel are both coming out of injuries… well we’re not even sure if Embiid will play at all this season

          • Zimmeredge

We wońt trade randle because he is the most affordable player we can have with 2,5m contract able to put up double double night in night out. We won’t get mcw. Enough with this sick bs with mcw. It did not happen at draft it wońt happen now. Mitch already said that in press conference the offers were not interesting.

          • Zimmeredge

Randle will start on the bench imo so get the bench mob with vet contract and randle of the bench and you have the best bench. Melo is meant to play 4 in la lebron or no lebron….

          • LakersOverEverything

That’s fine too. I’ve been wanting melo to come play our 4 spot since before the draft. That’s a way to keep randle’s developement from being overshadowed by the stars

        • rival

Cuz he’s one of the idiots that’s been blabbing there mouth about how we can’t get melo or Bron lol you got some never badazz coming here

          • LakersOverEverything

Lol. Why so much pessimism. It’s VERY possible to land at least one. People put to much faith into the doubts of espn reporters

          • Badazztj12

I never said we cant Melo or Lebron dumbass. If you following me and listen what I have been saying unlike guys you mean(Redemption and Indepedentbynature) We have a chance to get Melo but not Lebron. We wouldn’t have enough cap space to sign a bench if we get Lebron. THINK. Why the hell would “nash got to go” just put out the starting line up? There wouldn’t be no money for a bench. Learn the salary cap

          • rival

With that line up and you taking bout the bench lol that’s like taking bout practice

          • LakersOverEverything

Yeah I just found out the hard way. Smh

          • rival

I’m telling you. This guy is too much, he thinks he’s always right and these articles keep proving him wrong. See you on Figueroa for the parade!

          • LakersOverEverything

I honestly hope we land one or both if for no other reason than to shut these idiot fans up. I truly don’t understand the “no chance we get anyone” line of thought. Like damn bitch, are you a fan or not. Sit back patiently and see what happens.

          • kookiebuger

You have to be realistic, outside of location and money the Lakers aren’t that attractive at the moment.

          • J Taylor

Really? Then why are Melo and/or Lebron considering free agency offers?

          • Badazztj12

Go learn the salary cap and CBA rules then try to prove me wrong then with facts

          • cj

cap rules state that once you use up your cap you can sign players for vet min deals.

this is how the over the cap lakers got nick young, farmar, wes jhonson, x, and other players last season.

the lakers have 23m in cap space with nash kobe, kelly, marshell, scare and randel on the roster.

by wiving nash and his 9.7 mill deal the lakers would add 6.4m to the cap to spend on free agents. this is not counting the 500k cap holds used for a empty roster spot. this means the lakers would have 29-30m to spend on free agents.

lebron and melo could split the cap space caping the lakers out with a team of marshel, kobe, lebron, melo, scare, randel, kelly.

the lakers would then have their full mid lvl exception and vets min exceptions to fill out the rst of their roster.

go get pau at the full mid lvl exception 5.3ish m

then go get guys like young farmar and x back by using the vets min deals

            farmar, kobe, lbj, melo, pau
            marshel, x, young, randel, scare
            kelly, clarckson, ?, ?, ?

thats a contender with a legit bench that all fits in the cap rules. if you honestly dont understand how this could happen……….. COULD HAPPEN………. not will happen…….. COULD HAPPEN then you should stop watching bball.

wow people are really feeding into this comment lol
wow a coach getting paid 15 million dollars LMAOO. wow
this is embarrassing for us as laker fans. this comment right here. smh (shaking my head). you have to stop feeding into the media. eventually you will learn.

      • zploochi

i mean shit phil was only asking for 12m…

      • cj

its alot to pay a coach but to get coach k out of duke y not.

      • Rob#24

Very interesting conversations, i just hope we could land both melo and bron! Cant wait the drama to end

    • Jooho Kwon

Interesting, but neither Melo or Lebron will take pay cuts. They have both wanted max deals. And I don’t think Lebron could suffer another PR catastrophe like the one he will have if he came to the Lakers.

      • cj

the only way they take pay cuts is to play together

      • Tune

Melo’s focus isn’t on moneying or he’d go back to the Knicks. He gains everything he wants coming to LA, LeBron gets to live out a dream of being Magic 2.0.

    • JusRite

      75M for a coach????

    • SirHambone

Still think your crazy! All that looks like 3rd grader put it together after a dream!

    • Nathan Oeun

Isn’t it too late to change melo’s contract offer? They already offered him 96mil for 4 years which is 24 mil/yr. If they told him “oh actually we’re gonna cut it down to 17mil – maybe he might not sign?

    • jim2

Your list shows a great deal of immaturity and disrespect for Pau Gasol. Add up what you have listed and think about what Pau is going to think.

  • LakersHeatBeef

I believe Mitch is the greatest GM ever if he gets both LeBron+Carmelo. In Mitch We Trust.Go get it done Mitch!

  • DKWTTY

If Melo comes even 2 years from now when Kobe’s deal is done we have cap space and there are some great free agents then. Melo will only be 32 as well. Kobe won his last ring at 31. That’s still young enough that other free agents would want to come play with Melo and for the Lakers. It shall be interesting to see what he decides.

Anyone who joins us their popularity goes up immediately and yes players care about that stuff! Look at Julius, he has the second most twitter followers behind Andrew Wiggins out of the recently drafted players.

    • Badazztj12

Kobe will be 38 in two years

      • DKWTTY

I know. I said Melo will be 32 in 2 years when Kobe is done. His deal will be over so if he still wants to play he’ll have to take a smaller salary. Melo would have to take over. He’d still be young enough.

        • LakerSpartan117

I think/hope Kobe will keep playing, that way he can retire the longest active player in history on the same team. And hopefully pass Kareem on the Scoring list.

          • DKWTTY

I’m betting he’ll try but he’s really on his last legs as it is. He’s running on fumes almost.

          • LakerSpartan117

I think you have Kobe mixed up with Nash.

          • DKWTTY

Haha so wrong but no. Kobe’s played so long. When he came back from his injury for those 6 games he was off. I doubt he can play 20+ years. He’s not a superhero.

          • Badazztj12

Every person coming off a injury like that gonna struggle. Look at Rose he is young and was struggling Kobe was coming back to form two game before the knee injury

          • DKWTTY

At least with Derrick he’s still young, you know he’ll bounce back. Kobe’s had tons of injuries and one hell of a career. I’m low key concerned with how he will be next season and the season after.

          • Badazztj12

We haven’t seen that from Rose or Kobe. So don’t make an excuse for that

          • DKWTTY

Well we’ll see. I like your optimism.

          • courtney harris

how many times will d rose have to bounce back before he becomes this generations tracy mcgrady

          • LakerSpartan117

IDK… he kinda looks like one..

          • the_lorb

Kobe had a major injury, didn’t play in any preseason games, and was forced back into action in the middle of the season. Did you expect him to bust out 30/6/6 immediately?

          • DKWTTY

No of course not, that doesn’t change the fact that he was slower and he’s older and that will never change.

          • Voon

Badazz is right. The starting 5 mentioned would technically be possible but they would not have any bench at all which makes this all a pipe dream. I would be very happy to land Melo, resign Pau and fill out rest if roster with some other in expensive young talent.

          • cj

no hes wrong. the lakers would still have their mid lvl and vets min deals to fill out the roster. with a team of kobe, lebron and melo vets like farmar, young, pau, x and others willcome running to be on the lakers even if its only for vets min deals

          • Voon

Would not have enough to fill the entire roster based on the suggested contracts he listed. Maybe could fill MLE and one vet at league min. But that isn’t enough.

          • cj

there is no limit to the players you can sign with the vets min. the lakers could sign 5+ players to vets min deals

          • LakersOverEverything

So are you telling me with that starting 5 the bench would be their downfall? Do you really think the bench would matter that much?

          • Voon

No. Of course that starting 5 would unbeatable. What I’m saying is it would not be possible to do as they would not have enough space or money to fill out their bench or roster which is not only mandatory but something every team would need no matter how good the starting 5.

          • LakersOverEverything

Oh ok. I’m not necessarily saying this will happen either. Just speaking hypothetically

  • WAYNER

Im highly considering moving TO LA

  • LakerSpartan117

    THE G.O.A.T likes the idea!!!

  • Lionel

LeBron is the man ya’ll need.I co-sign LeBron as the future of the NBA.Kobe that is my mans and he will be perfect with Carmelo and LeBron the three amigos.

  • GMoney588

The NBA stopped the CP3 trade, but the league can’t stop this! Karma baby!!!

    • 559rell

I still don’t understand why/how they could stop that trade, but that Lebron and Melo could work. What was the deal with that trade block?

      • cj

the nba owned the hornets at the time and any trade has to be approved by the ownership group. most trades go threw with little involvement from the owner but the other owners did not like the trade so they called in and told stern to veto the trade. it was a low blow by the nba because the guy running the team at the time agreed to the deal but stern had every right to veto the deal.

  • musaamos

    KOBE doing WORK! BLACK MAMBA!!

  • LakersOverEverything

I’m not even sure I would like getting both, as it seems like an all-star team, BUT that laker pride wants a title at any cost lol

  • JohnSmith00

I hate the idea, but man this guy is relentless….

  • GOD Chri$$$

    - Melo can be given the max (can’t do that in CHI), yes he can get more in NY but let’s be honest he’ll probably get paid pretty good after his 4th year in LA anyway, just look at kobe
    - Better chance to win now than his 1st option NY
    - Better Business oppurtunites, endorsements, commercials, possibly acting and other business ventures
    - Learning from kobe can be huge since they have similar playing styles
    - Possibly have the best trio in the league with Gasol/Kobe/Melo
    – Very very slim chance of pairing Melo/Kobe/Lebron.
    - Have huge cap space when kobe retires and be able to continue winning
    - Hang his name among the laker greats
    - Possibly build a brand after his career is over

    • LakerSpartan117

I honestly believe Kobe can keep playing after his contract is up, and I hope he does. The NBA won’t be the same after he and Duncan and Dirk are gone.

      3 years/ $15 million ..

      • Marcus Franco

23 years playing ? I think the man will be tired but who knows..

        • LakerSpartan117

If he can continue winning, and playing like great player I’m sure he’ll be fine.

          • Marcus Franco

Yeah me too I really want that to come true but Kobe is getting really old and 23 years playing is a hard cenario for me but this guy is insane when is about work ethic, it’s not impossible but is really unlikely.

          • LakerSpartan117

True.. all we can do is hope he stays committed to himself and his work ethic.

          • Marcus Franco

Absolutely, I hope he can maintain his level at least 70% in the next season.

          • Badazztj12

He already said he was 100%

          • GOD Chri$$$

doesn’t mean he’ll play like the old MVP kobe.

          • Badazztj12

Never said that but he will be productive in any type of way

          • GOD Chri$$$

            oh no doubt about that.

      • GOD Chri$$$

assuming everything falls into place… and i don’t know what they plan to do with gasol if ewe even get him… but assuming we get melo… we need to sign gasol to a 2 year contract, same as kobe, then if kobe looks like he’s got a little bit left then yeah we can get him at a steep paycut and possibly get KD. but soooo many things have to fall into place this is just a pipe dream at this point

        • LakerSpartan117

As long as its a dream, then there’s a chance it can become reality friend.

          • GOD Chri$$$

            Stay positive my friend…

  • GMoney588

Jeanie was so calm about accepting what the NBA decided with CP3….did they know something good would eventually happen? Maybe Bron and Melo didn’t want to play with Howard. This trumps the Shaq signing if they get both.

  • afs

    Let’s get this done. Period.

  • DKWTTY

How can we get rid of Nash and Marshall? That’s a lot of cap space they are taking up.

    • Badazztj12

Marshall only have under a mil not much gonna be taken off plus he can develop. that’s getting rid of big talent for on a cheap salary

      • DKWTTY

Think of it like this, him and Nash is about $10 million. That’s Pau’s salary alone. If we want Melo we need to dump these two somehow. I wish Nash would retire. How does that work as far as his deal coming off of the salary cap?

        • Badazztj12

You are not doing it right. Pau money can come from birdrights. That 9 million from nash will sign bench. We are not playing the starters 48 min a game

          • DKWTTY

The point is, it can go to other players who will actually play and be productive for us. Nash has to go.

          • Badazztj12

I know that just saying Marshall is staying anyway. He wouldn’t be playing for summer league team if he wasnt

        • wardrobe99

we have his bird rights we resign him and not get taxed

  • Duke

Can Kobe restructure his contract to take just a bit less?

    • lenon

no. Under the rules players cannot restructure their contracts.

  • Skitter

If ever lakers would be able to land those 2 they could be the face of the New Era of Lakers since Kobe is in his ritirement years. It would be great for the team and the fans of LA Lakers.

  • Earl

If LeBron and Carmelo sign with The Lakers this site will get so many views it might crash the traffic and hits this site will take will be surreal. My last post tonight.

    • LakersOverEverything

      For sure

  • Joseph

The faster they sign with The Lakers the better for everyone.Lets do this fast.

  • rival almighty

That’s right Bron, bring your talents to Venice Beach!

  • Marvin

They seem to be on the verge of announcing something huge for The Lakers.Mitch really is the best GM in the NBA and he will be right their as the greatest GM ever.

  • GOD Chri$$$

i’m just sitting here waiting for more melo news…

    • rival

      Lol aren’t we all

  • Jacob

Mitch Kupchak has 8 rings in the NBA 3 rings as a player and 5 rings as a GM.

  • Jacob

Drop all you’re rings on the table Mitch lol the greatest GM.

  • GOD Chri$$$

Lakers gonna be unstoppable in 2k15 with kobe/melo/pau

    • afs

It would be dominant, but we’d need to have a solid bench too

      • LakersOverEverything

Last years bench would be sufficient

        • afs

Kaman gone, Farmar gone, Bazemore prob gone, and Young and Hill are undecided

  • rival almighty

    Ha! Lol

  • me182

    Holy shit

  • Race Hinnen

If this truly happend…It would be a Miracle!!!!. but can anyone say 2004?…Ego’s don’t always play together; To many Apha Dogs, who’s going to submit? Kobe, would NEVER give in to saying this isn’t His Team still. Would Le Drama Queen James give into that? Looks nice on paper..but we all know that doesn’t always play
out in reality. I’ll take it though. Still don’t know how I’d feel bout Le Queen being a Laker? I HATE the Spurs, always have; but I was rooting for them in the Finals against the Heat; I can’t stand Le Queen. It’s sort of like when Gary Payton played for the Lakers…I never liked “sideways smile” Payton, but if he could help the Lakers win! I accepted him. The same would be for Le Queen; All I truly want is for Kobe to pass “Granny- Jordan” in total career points, and get his 6th Ring! before he hangs it up. If Le Queen & Mello “no defense yellow” can come to L.A. to help Kobe get it…Fine!. As far as Coach K coming to coach; There has been ABSOLUTELY! no talk of this what so ever….Would be great; I wanted him way back before the Lakers hired “Mr. Potato head- Mike Brown” and that excuse for a coach Mike Dantoni. Kobe loves Coach K; That’s where Kobe would have went to college- Duke, if he didn’t go straight to the NBA. But All this is a TOTAL Pipe Dream if this “all” were to go down. This would be the biggest collective merger of Talent since….EVER!

    • LakersOverEverything

Haven’t read your entire comment yet, but I’ll reply to the first bit. Bringing in the extra stars wasn’t the problem. It was kobe and shaq’s old fued. If Shaq hadn’t quit on us, (and kobe not been going thru that bs case) we’d have won that year.

    • rival

Yea I stopped reading after a few sentences.

      • courtney harris

        mee too

    • WAYNER

People or ” CRITICS ” said Lebron & Dwade would never be able to work together when they first signed with each other

watch the Lebron All Star 2014 interview the first yr was bad but Wade went to Lebron and said in order for us to win you have to be that star player you alwayd been cause like Kobe Dwade is not able to play the way he did and he had to adjust his game.

  • Dana Douglas

If somehow both James and Anthony say they will come to LAL, you give them both max contracts, salary cap be damned. Pay the dollar-for-dollar luxury tax for two years until Kobe’s contract is up. You’ll have so much money coming in, you’ll barely feel it.

    • Badazztj12

I been trying to tell these dumbass laker fans that

      • rival

        Your an idiot bro

    • kookiebuger

You can’t just ignore the alary cap the cap maximum is 63.2 million the Lakers are at 35 million unless they both agree to 14 million it’s not going to happen.

      • Dana Douglas

Okay, I’m not an expert on the CBA, so my bad. But I did just read that the cap is expected to be a little over $70 million, not $63. But who knows what to believe with all the stuff being written out there.

      • lenon

you can ignore the salary cap. It is not a HARD cap. It is a soft cap in that going over means you have to pay extra money per dollar over the cap. Lakers have more than enough income to not worry about the cap considering the multi-billion dollar deal they have with time warner

        • kookiebuger

No they can’t that’s why the Lakers couldn’t get CP3 in free agency last year because they’re are rules that prevents teams from doing this.

          • Zimmeredge

They can lure them both on short contracts plus endorsements and then after a two year contrat for both they get a Max contrat over four years because Kobe will be gone
            Anyway i wanna keep randle.

        • Zimmeredge

They can’t ignore the cap learn your fact.

    • ra

Yes, a team w/ Kobe, LBJ, Melo will bring in SO much $$$ for the Lakers, they will be able to pay plenty of penalties above caps, luxury, etc. The brand ‘alone’ will skyrocket. Lakers are already top basketball brand in the world. It would be ‘unreal’ if we had these players.

The only thing stopping it from happening is LBJ and Melo deciding to go elsewhere. It is up to them. LA will pay over the cap / lux (would total maybe $20mil, right?), but that’s a year. they already have $1billion a year from Time Warner. So, $20 million is ‘chump change’ compared to that.

You know, this is the only way LBJ will get some more rings. And Kobe will get a few more. Who cares the reason -rings are rings. It would be a mini-dynasty for 2-3 years.

It would be like Ghidorah, Godzilla, and Rodan teaming up to conquer the world. It will be HUGE box-office. $$$$ like crazy. It’s all up to LBJ, Melo.

LA would only benefit from this. JUST DO IT, BABY.

    • J Taylor

CBA salary cap rules prevent it.
In the old system this is EXACTLY how Dr. Buss built a team.

  • rival almighty

If they both come I doubt it would be 2 max contacts. They were saying something about a 2 year contract for starters and then comes the kobe like contract

    • LakersOverEverything

Right. Certain idiots around here can’t comprehend. They think people are suggesting lakers give max contracts to both

  • Melobronkobe

First year of his contract he will be getting the same money he would be getting if he went with Knicks second year we can renegotiate so he can make more maybe if kobe takes a pay cut or if melo waits two years to renegotiate his contract so he can make that 129 if he wants it that bad

  • Jeremy

The Lakers FO just needs to workout the contracts and use incentives and bonuses to boost up the salaries of both LeBron and Carmelo. The salary cap can be worked around with smart perks.

  • O

it’ll be hard to get both, still gotta factor in the bench guys, only realistic one signing is Melo and I’m not even sure he’ll sign with the Lakers for sure

  • Deon

ESPN Sportscenter on TV has huge letter saying Lakers pose biigest threat to the Knicks to get Carmelo. Also LeBron is apparently trying to join the Lakers.Mitch really did it this time.Man of the Century Mitch Kupchak. We’re not worthy.

    • I-believe

Yes, Carmelo will sign with Lakers and Lebron will join him after

    • kookiebuger

Relax, it’s nothing offical yet and the Lakers will need to rescind Melo’s max offer if they are trying to get both LeBron and Melo at the same price (14 million).

    • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

lol Calm down. It’s still far fetched.

  • kiko

kobe and Stephenson Lance and Nelson, Jameer and pau re-sign for LA Lakers

    • rival

      Huh? Your an idiot bro

  • Del

The magic number is $17.5 million each for Carmelo+LeBron.Lakers will trade Steve Nash+Julius Randle+Robert Sacre for nothing but a draft pick in return a no contracts coming back to The Lakers a team will absorb their contracts and then we cleared all contracts by renouncing everyone that is a free agent Pau Gasol included then this will happen.

    Kobe Bryant $23,000,000
    LeBron James 20,250,000
    Carmelo Anthony $20,250,00

Then use mid level exception and trade exception to get more players. Also veteran minimum contracts will be used on all the remaining players. And veterans like Jameer Nelson and others will sign for the veteran minimum plus Jordan Clarkson and Ryan Kelly will be back along with Wes Johnson and Xavier Henry also Kendall Marshall all for the veteran minimum after the dust clears they could be brought back after being renounced. This is creativity at it’s finest.

  • Del

$17,500,000 is not what the Lakers will pay Carmelo+LeBron it’s $20,500,000 but they can get a start at $17,500,00 million if they want to re-sign Pau Gasol if not it’s $20,500,000.It’s EPIC off-season for Mafia Mitch The Great.

  • Brandon A. Benitez

EVERYTIME SOMEONE PROPOSES THAT WE TRADE JULIUS RANDLE IT MAKES ME WANNA LIGHT MYSELF ON FIRE. JULIUS RANDLE IS THE FUTURE SO DUMP THAT STUPID MUTHAFUCKIN IDEA OUT THE WINDOW HE IS GONNA HE HERE FOR A VERRRYYY LONG TIME

    • rival

even if we have to? to get bron and melo??

      • Brandon A. Benitez

Theres a way to get them both so we won’t even need to think about that as an option

        • michael

and we can have him for few bugs too.

      • Zimmeredge

There is NO REASON to trade Julius randle. You cannot find a players with his talent and ability to get double double for 2,5 millions…

  • Kip

If he really wanted to be on the Knicks he would have accepted that offer long ago.New York stinks and won’t win for years to come, simple Carmelo is signing with The Lakers.I fully am acting like we got him already as i think we do have him.

  • Carlos

    Purple And Gold Revenge Tour
    PG Jameer Nelson
    SG Kobe Bryant
    SF Carmelo Anthony
    PF Julius Randle
    C Pau Gasol

    • cj

      farmar is better then nelson

  • FingersCrossed

Damn it if Mitch & Jim pull off this Melo and Lebron thing, I’ll clean their cars for an entire year with my tongue.

  • Lakers4Life

This is nice music to our ears and justifies exactly what I’ve said all along.

Mitch and FO will go all out for LeBron and Melo whom we need the most. They will seriously consider the Lakers – even with paycuts they could earn more with endorsements. Get rid of Nash along with Randle and sign a few role players and we’ll be set.

  • GOD Chri$$$

Melo in purple and gold would look good, lebron ehh
