Latest Quotes from Lamar Odom

Earlier this evening, I was attending a meetup with some friends when I get a tweet from Kurt over at Forum Blue and Gold saying that the negotiations with Lamar aren’t going so well! “A little north of $8M” has turned into “a little north of $9M” and the talks were still going bad. Now it looks like the Miami Heat are in talks with lamar with a 5 year $34M contract offer.

Mitch Kupchak is bracing Lakers Nation for the bad news.

Here are quotes from both sides according to LA Times:

“I don’t know,” Odom told The Times in a phone interview. “That’s why there are negotiations. I don’t know. Of course I hope they can get it done.

“It’s negotiations. Both sides are going to give and take. That’s part of it. I don’t know how long it’s going to take.”

Lakers owner Jerry Buss, who improved on his offer of $8 million a season to Odom, is getting frustrated and is thinking about pulling the deal off the table soon.

Kupchak was asked whether he was ready to give up on the talks.

“Perhaps,” Kupchak said. “I’m surprised it’s taken this long to get to this point. Obviously, I have a lot more information than you guys do.”

Personally, I think Odom is asking for more money than he’s worth. He’s been paid a max contract already and if you want to look at the quality of work over the time of that 5 year $65M contract, I don’t think he earned it.

The way he played in Boston and Cleveland earlier this year is how he should have played all year!

Most of Lakers Nation has said that $8M is about how much Lamar is worth, so let’s say the nightmare situation happens . . . . he leaves and we’re left with nothing!

What is your opinion of Lamar then?

Lamar Odom is asking for more than he’s worth. He’s already been overpaid the last contract for what we got out of him. He needs to just take 9 and stay.

We need him to win a championship, but he is just being too greedy right now. What ever happened to the guy that said that he would take a pay cut just so that he could stay in LA?

IT’S TIME FOR LAMAR TO SAY YEA OR NAY! HE BETTER ACCEPT THAT OFFER BEFORE DR.BUSS YANKS IT OFF THE TABLE, CAUSE NOW HE NOT SHOWING THE ORGANIZATION ANY LOYALTY! HE SAID HE WANTED 2 B A LAKER4LIFE, AND UNDERSTOOD HE WOULD BE TAKING A PAYCUT, HE IS DOING WORSE THAN TREVOR RIGHT NOW…B/C HE KNOWS WE WANT HIM BACK…AND HE IS STALLING. HONESTLY I THINK HAVING ODOM WOULD BE ICING ON THE CAKE, BUT EVEN WITHOUT HIM, IT JUST MEANS THAT INSTEAD OF BEING A 5 HEADED MONSTER WE ARE NOW 4…AND PEOPLE 4GET WHAT U SEEN DURING THE PLAYOFFS, BYNUM WILL DELIVER.

Forget Lamar, if he wants to hold out let him. Let go after Carlos boozer.

I think Lamar is a great player for the the triangle offense. When Lamar plays well, everybody plays well and we’re a very tough team to beat. Do I think that he is worth more than 8 million a year? About that, but now more. However, we’re paying Sasha and Luke almost 5 million per year which makes me think that Lamar deserves at least 10 per year. Also, Kobe just got a pay raise, but if he wants to win maybe he should think about taking a pay cut as well to help keep the team loaded.

Actually Kobe has NOT got a pay raise. He did Not opt out in hopes of them signing our free agents! And he definitely deserves every dime he gets!

we need LO! yup he might be asking more than we want to give, but he played HUGE in the playoffs!!! thats what we need, someone that can give us BIG minutes when it counts. nobody out there can do what he does for us. we don’t sign him we have a tough road to the championship. is he worth it? if it was my team i would pay him up to $9.5 mil because we will win 2 more with him.

Now I hear rumors that Miami is offering a S&T for Michael Beasley! Now if it’s true do the Lakers do this in order to have something in return? Lamar says he wants to "respect" the Lakers cause they have been good to him, then take the $9 & let’s do this!

I’m really bummed out on this one. Early in the season last year I decided I wanted to buy a Lakers jersey. I know that the common ones are Bryant, Bynum, and Pau – but I saw something special in Lamar. I like his attitude, his ability to explode and turn the game around, and what he brought overall. His is the jersey I want to buy, but I didn’t want the jersey of someone who would be gone in a year. I made the decision to buy his jersey this year as long as he stays. I was really looking forward to his jersey, I’m hoping I can still get it and wear it proudly for three more years!!

    • Lakers GM

yeah Josh, don’t buy the jersey yet or else you’ll find it at a Ross “sales section”. I don’t know whats wrong with this guy. He wanted to be a Lakers for life, and with the best offer that any team can offer him, he’s still want more? The Lakers are not the Yankees, we don’t buy our championship, we grow them locally, and internationally. Lamar is a great model basketball player and citizen. I hope in your case, he does sign that dotted line and Mitch is there to congratulate him.

That line about him being the highest paid sixth man was all I needed. Manu is getting 8.6 and the spurs KNOW he will show up every game! 9 mil in hopes of LO being there in the finals is fair for everyone. U pay more than a mil in taxes anyway LO!

I heard the latest is 9 mil and Lamar and his agent are not taking it! Lamar was instrumental in our championship run, but can be replaced. With the addition of Artest, I think we are better defensively and a tougher team, let’s do a S&T (Lamar and Farmar for Amare)!!!

    D-Fish
    Kobe
    Artest
    Amare
    Gasol

    Your starting 5!

    • Lakers GM

that sounds good. But Amare wants to be the main go to guy, not going to work. On papers look good but playing it out, not going to happen/

LO don’t let the door hit you from behind. LO and Ariza are in for a rude awakening this coming season. Ariza will be a mediocore player in Houston because he’s not a superstar like Kobe, he’s a role player. LO will prosper in Miami but will never win another championship based on the competition in the East…see ya!

The Lakers organization have done a lot for Lamar and his family. When he performed poorly throughout his tenure with the Lakers, his name was never brought up in a trade. Offering him a 3 years $30 million/ 4 years $36 million, that alone already is the best offer out there. I don’t think Lamar want to have his agent do him wrong like Trevor’s agent did to him. He basically went to Houston for right around the same offer the Lakers can offer him. Remember, Lamar, you need the Lakers and not the Lakers need you. Our franchise resurrected your career. You always have been a Los Angeles basketball player, but you played for that JV team, the Clippers. Staying with the Lakers will help you out with your basketball career and all of your other endeavors. Im hoping Lamar will see what’s here and what we have for the next 3 years. Kobe, Ron, Fisher, Pau, ‘Drew and the bench mob will guarantee you a playoff and with the west weakening this coming season, why would you want to head out east? I would love to see a Lakers vs Boston final again, and this time around you will see ‘Drew banging the boards, Pau being aggressive with the post gam, Ron being the enforcer down on the post, and Kobe facilitating the back court. Lamar (if he signs) can become that adrenaline shot off the bench and do damage. I can only pray and hope that this deal get done quick so the Laker’s nation can enjoy their summer and reserve another parade next summer down Figueroa street.

I think if Lamar Odom’s had any real business savvy, he would look at getting Lamar some endorsements. After that profile on ESPN pregame show displaying his candy fettish, some major candy company could use him to sell their candy. Lamar has already had major contracts when he was first signed with the Clippers and then traded to Heat. Eventhough Lamar and the most confusing Trevor both stated they wanted to be Lakers for life, these contract negotiations show that these grown men are insecure .They think having a major multi-year contract will give them validity. Where are the Jamaal Wilkes? I think we the fans are confused because we heard the sport pundits states this is a close team, that exit interviews everyone express how they wanted to stay. As a city employee of LA facing deferements on my raise and possible furloughs,I feel like that parade led us to be hoodwinked, bamboozled.
