Lamar Odom finally signs a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers by signing a 4 year, $33 Million Deal – 3 year guaranteed and a team option for the 4th year.
Now, the Lakers Nation can sit back, relax and really enjoy this summer as the 2009 NBA World Champions with the comfort of knowing that we are going to be going into next season as the clear-cut favorite to win the ring again and . . . again!
Here’s a recap of what happened this summer:
- Lakers offered Trevor Ariza the MLE
- Trevor’s agent David Lee huffs and puffs and tries to get more money for his client by parading him around all the players in Free Agency.
- Mitch and Dr. Buss don’t even play the game and signs former Defensive Player of the Year star, Ron Artest.
- Kobe decides not to Opt-Out of his current contract
- Lamar and his agent Jeff Schwartz initially ask for a 5 year $50M deal
- Lakers counter with an option of 3 years/$30M or 4years/$36M
- Lamar’s camp doesn’t respond in a timely manner and Dr. Buss pulls the offers from the tables
- Main issues depend on number of guaranteed years
- Lamar and Dr. Buss meet face to face and figure out a deal
- Reports claim Pat Riley and Dwayne Wade come out to LA and make some time to meet with Lamar. Turns out that it never happened!
- Lamar’s camp throws out a 3 year $28M offer onto the table
- Laker’s camp counters with a 3 year $26M offer with a 4th year team option for an additional $8M
- Lamar’s camp then counters with a 3 year $27M offer with a 4th year team option for $8M, but if it’s exercised, Lamar would receive $2M to bring it back to their original offer.
- Lakers’s camp counters with a 3 year $26M offer with a 4th year option for $8M, but if it’s exercised, Lamar would receive $2M to bring it back to their original offer.
And that’s where it was agreed upon. I know I’m missing a few hundred thousands here and there, so $33-$34M for 4 years.
