Lakers Rumors: Team Interested in Vernon Macklin

By | August 7, 2012|

The Los Angeles Lakers have been very busy this off-season, acquiring names like Steve Nash and Antawn Jamison. These players have been All-Stars many times before and are recognizable figures to casual fans. However, there is a player out there who has gained the Lakers’ interest, but may not ring a bell with fans.

According to Vernon Macklin’s agent, the Los Angeles Lakers are one of five teams that have expressed interest in his client, according to Hoops Rumors.

Vernon Macklin’s agent has informed Hoopshype.com that his client is currently drawing interest from the Nets, Suns, Bucks, Wizards, and Lakers. Macklin spent last season in Detroit, and is also drawing interest overseas, in Turkey and Greece.

Macklin was the 52nd overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, but has played only 23 games so far in his professional career. Macklin has scored a total of 46 points and grabbed 34 rebounds with a 5.9 minutes per game average.

Macklin will surely not help the Lakers tremendously if signed, but he could provide some assistance off the bench. He will not likely see a lot of playing time but will learn a great deal from Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash.

Who is he going to back up? Paul, Jordan Hill, or Center (Bynum or Dwight).

The Laker organization must see something in this player, but the stats and minutes play don’t give us fans a good enough context to make a judgement. Enough said…..

    People. People.
    These are only rumors.
Everyone knows that 75% of the rumors regarding the Lakers are false stories.
So why get all hot, mad, nasty and stupid on things like this.
The Lakers dont have any money to got after a really good player.
Right now the Lakers really have not shown any real interest in any players.
Even though they have the door open for anyone who wants to come and talk the vet min.

So here’s my rumor:  The Lakers will trade Bynum before the deadline.

This would be a bad choice, Front Office. Have you forgotten you already have “developmental talent” in Ebanks, Morris, Goudelock and Roberts. Let’s make a run at the gold, pick up Barbosa!

We don’t need anonimous players like this one.52-nd overall pick? Are you kidding me? A bench warmer in Detroit to play for a team like the Lakers? Hell NO.
The reports are that Jodie Meeks won’t accept the veteran minimum.M.Kupchak can manage a trade to get that guy, then use the “mini” midlevel on LEANDRO BARBOSA.With these two players, we will be all set for the new season.Don’t need Kenyon Martin or any other forward.
