Lakers Rumors: Rockets Trying To Trade Jeremy Lin To Los Angeles

Share on FacebookTweet about this on Twitter

UPDATE (11:40 AM PST): The Los Angeles Lakers are finalizing a trade with the Houston Rockets for Jeremy Lin according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski:

With LeBron James headed back to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Houston Rockets are now trying to clear cap space to sign his former teammate, Chris Bosh. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Rockets are trying to trade Jeremy Lin’s expiring contract to the Los Angeles Lakers:

Stein believes Lin being traded to the Lakers makes sense as it would not cut into any of their 2015 cap space:

With the latest rumor of Carmelo Anthony deciding between the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls, the Lakers are inching closer to moving forward with their Plan B. While Los Angeles will lose out on an All-Star, there are plenty of players available and Kobe Bryant seems confident.

Although there will be uncertainty surrounding Pau Gasol’s decision to return, players like Greg Monroe, Trevor Ariza, Lance Stephenson, and Isaiah Thomas are still available despite it being 10 days into free agency.

    What can Lakers trade though?

    • KOBEmomo

      nash, lmao

      • nash screwed the lakers

cant because they clearing cap to get bosh

        • http://www.niknokseyer.com/ Niknok Seyer

yeah.. that’s what I thought as well.

    • Manziel

they dont care they just wanna dump him to save cash lakers would probably just buy his contract

    • TheZuluNation

      They sent cash to Houston.

  • KOBEmomo

Woah, this asian can play with the other asian we got, um, who was it, oh yeah, Jordan Clarkson, filipino rite.

  • LakerSpartan117

He’s a good player and i would like him as a future role player. He’s also an expiring contract. But I would want more in return because we are doing them a favor helping them get Bosh and keep Parsons. Future 1st rounders/trade exceptions/ and maybe Omer Asik..

Have to think about the future.

    • cuco

      Asik is gone already

      • LakerSpartan117

Not necessarily. The Pelicans don’t have the cap space to do the trade, they are off by like 100,000 bucks

  • nash screwed the lakers

get picks from houston for lin

  • JackieChilesIsSpeechless

Lakers wouldn’t trade anything away except perhaps a TPE or worse draft picks for better draft picks. If it happens, it sucks to lose a shot at Isaiah Thomas.

    • kookiebuger

The Lakers don’t have send anything back in return the Lakers would get Lin and probably some pick/s while the Rockets get cap room for Bosh.

      • JackieChilesIsSpeechless

Except there are other teams interested in renting cap space to the Rockets, the Sixers being one of them, so pick swaps may come into the mix in order to outbid those other suitors for Lin.

And I don’t know why the Lakers wouldn’t send a TPE over if they could, especially if doing so would allow them to sign coveted free agents before the trade and then give them an additional threshold to allow Lin’s salary to push them above the cap. Doing so would also trigger the ability to use a mini-MLE, which they don’t get if they simply renounce free agents and bring in Lin’s salary while they are under the cap.

    • TheSportsAuthority

Isaiah Thomas is not better than Lin. Period.

      • JackieChilesIsSpeechless

Well since you put “period” on the end of that statement, how can I argue with that logic? Plus, you’re The Sports Authority. If you can readily convince people to overpay for jerseys and sporting goods, you must know something.

  • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

I’ll be fine with this if we at least get a 1st round pick in return.

  • Swaggy C

Heck no! Why should we help them?

    • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

So they can help us too. We need to rebuild. 1st round pick(s) in return would be great.

      • Spade

Exactly. Mitch and Jim have failed. Time to start the rebuild.

        • LakerSpartan117

They didn’t fail… we don’t have the best team right now. That’s it. Melo is going to choose the Bulls, the better team right now. Nothing we could do could change that.

        • lakerfan

No Mitch did not fail. Remember the CP3 Trade…. Lakers have made a contender team every season except for the last… All the injuries… Kobe going down with a horrible injury…

          • Spade

The CP3 trade didn’t happen. Get over it. We’re in rebuild mode now.

        • TheZuluNation

Wouldn’t necessarily say they’ve failed, but they’ve made some bad decisions such as hiring D’Antoni and the Nash experiment was horrible as we all know. At least they tried.

          • independentbynature

I know I can forgive them their mistakes if they learned from it and turn things around. It’s all about the Lakers.

    • Bruce Wayne

We’re not helping them its actually them helping us, Lin is an expiring contract and Houston can send us a 1st rounder.

      • Randy

We’re not helping them?? They need to shed Lin’s contract in order to give the max to Bosh. Lin is ok and is only signed for 1 more year but let’s be real. What would you prefer? Being able to add Bosh to go with Harden, Dwight, Parsons, etc. Or receive an ok PG with a LATE 1st round draft pick. Houston will probably have one of the best records in the league next year with Bosh so that pick will basically be in the late 20′s. How great is that? And the idea of helping Dwight doesn’t appeal to me either….

  • cmilli21

    Fml

  • cmilli21

    Sigh…

  • Nikko10

    who?

  • meep

he has talent but no thank you to that contract of his even if its on its last year

    • Jeff

Why? If the contract is expiring then who cares? Lakers can get a first rounder out of it

      • jackson

Because 1) Houston’s first round pick will be pretty much a second round pick 2) We’re not going to help someone in our conference.

        • Bob Sacamano

By the time the Lakers are ready to contend, Bosh will not be a factor. He’s overrated and on the downside of his career right now so let Houston give him a fat contract that will strangle them financially in a year or two.

          • igit

            yes…

        • Randy

EXACTLY!!! that’s 1st rounder is basically a high 2nd round pick since it will be in the late 20′s. Plus why help Dwight? This doesn’t help us that much.

          • TheSportsAuthority

Depends on the draft and if the Lakers pick right. There’ll be somebody who can play…the question is will LA pick the right one.

  • Spade

Only take him if Houston throws a draft pick in the deal.

    • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

That’s the only way I see it happening. It’s not like the Lakers want him for the future, they want the deal for picks.
Mitch will get the best out of the deal.

      • Spade

Yeah. Mitch is going all in for the rebuild now. He has no choice. I say we jump in on other salary dumps so long as they come with some picks. Looks like Mitch finally gets it.

  • Sti1lmatic

Man what a summer it’s been

  • molly

they are better off without mellow ,start by grabbing Stevenson

  • taviyoung

    We’re FU**ED!!!!!

  • DKWTTY

I don’t want that disrespectful scrub who was laughing and mocking the Lakers last season, plus he sucks. Why help the Rockets out to get better while WE get worse! Especially after hearing Melo is picking between Bulls and Knicks.

  • rival

So we don’t get LJ but we might get JL lol I would rather give the youngsters PT

    • independentbynature

      We’ll get a draft pick.

      • Randy

Yay! Let’s all jump for joy at once for our new 27 to 30 round selection in next years draft!!!

  • FUCK LIN DONT DO IT

Don’t help Houston get better FUCK HOWARD MAKE HIM WORK FOR HIS RING FUCKIN SCRUB

    • independentbynature

They we’re getting Bosh anyway.Better we get the picks than the Sixers.

  • rival

Why the F are we going to help Houston get bosh!?

    • independentbynature

Would you rather the Sixers got the 1st rd. pick? We’re not the only team with cap room.

  • meep

getting lin might not be a bad thing depending what else the lakers get. lakers wont help the rockets unless they get a good deal out of it

    • independentbynature

      We’ll get a draft pick….

      • meep

my dream is trading nash but heck that wont happen.heck raptors said they wouldnt mind nash lets do a 3 team trade. replace nash contract with lins and it wouldnt be so bad.

        • Badazztj12

          We still can stretch

          • Spade

What for? If we stretch him we get suck with a little over $3 million on the books for the next 3 years. It’s best to just keep him, let him mentor Clarkson and Marshall, and get his money off the books all at once.

          • Badazztj12

We will just let everything play out

  • Edy

Are u guys freaking kidding me, u guys really want Jeremy Lin on the lakers how fucken desperate have we gotten at this point fuck no! There’s still Bledsoe, Thomas etc get ur heads out of ur asses

    • meep

it only for one year. plus if they get a first round pick out of it why not.plus if scott the coach i bet he could help improve lin

      • independentbynature

        Exactly…….DO IT.

        • NITSbleedPURP

Jeremy Lin is not improving! He had his best season with the Knicks and now is just flat out sorry! Best thing out of this would be a draft pick, but does that help the team this season? We don’t even know who’s going to dominate in college! It would be idiotic to pass on Thomas.

          Thomas>Lin/Draft pick

          • Badazztj12

Lol you would trade offense over defense.

          • independentbynature

You have to think of the future. It doesn’t hurt us this year, either. And Lin is better than you are stating.Better than any PG we have now.It sure beats over paying for a FA that will tie up next yrs cap space. This is a no brainer. We have nothing to lose. It’s an expiring contract. He could always be traded before the deadline this season, too. We need assets. We have none.

          • independentbynature

Thomas is 5 ft. nuthin’.You must be joking. He’s a huge liability on D.As bad as Marshall. And he’s not going to take a one yr. contract, either.Hurts our cap for next yr.

          • TheZuluNation

Wow you’re a clown if you think Thomas > Lin/draft pick. You’re part of the problem w/ the Lakers fan base. That is why everyone laughs at us ’cause we are so spoiled and delusional.

          • independentbynature

I’m sure with you on that one. It’s embarrassing sometimes. We have to keep it real.

          • TheSportsAuthority

LOL…you don’t know basketball if you think Thomas is a better PG than Lin.

      • Edy

If it’s Houston rockets first round draft pick no way brother there going to be probably be top 3 in the west so that’s not good

        • meep

if it a 2015 first round pick then it better then having no first next season

        • independentbynature

We need picks. The Suns have ours next year. You just accumulate picks. You never know what they might lead to.That’s what the Celtics are doing.Maybe ,we’ll even get more than one. When you ain’t got nuthin’,you got nuthin’ to lose.

  • James McGill

It might be another disappointing season for the Lakers…we’re banking on people wanting to come play here players used to love playing here now that’s not even the case anymore i still believe in the front office to make a couple of moves to bolster the roster and save cap space for next summer

  • Matt Martini

NO NO NO. Please Lakers org. Do not get overrated Lin I. Thomas! please! If we pick up Lin and that’s our first move of the FO. . . I will not be paying any money to watch the Lakers.. AHHHHHH

    • dan

      u wont be missed.

      • Matt Martini

        neither will you “Dan”

    • Edy

      I feel ur pain brother

    • Badazztj12

      Cya…..

    • TheSportsAuthority

LOL @ “fans” if you think Thomas is a better PG than Lin. Jeremy also has a lot more “upside”. Not only is he a highly rated defensive player according to ESPN’s advanced stats, he was second only to Lebron James on scoring efficiency while attacking the rim.

  • independentbynature

I sure hope this happens.I proposed this last week on Lakersnation.Of course there were some Lin haters who responded.Lakers should get a draft pick as sweetener for taking on Lin’s contract.Since it is an expiring contract,it fits perfectly for Lakers.DO IT,Mitch.

    • Badazztj12

He is a lockdown defender at pg. I’m watching him play from last year.

      • independentbynature

He’s better than any PG we have now and his contract is expiring. If he doesn’t work out,we still have a draft pick and our cap space for next year. Some people posting here only think with their emotions. This is a no brainer.Do it,Mitch.Lin Sanity in LA. Well, for one year anyway. We need draft picks.

        • Badazztj12

He still is young. We would still have enough money to get Lance. Then we a can still have a chance to trade or stretch Nash for bench

    • Spade

Yup. Stockpiling picks and assets should be the only thing on Mitch’s mind.

    • Sylvia Ross

He gave us hell last year when we played the rockets. I think he would be a good pick up.

      • independentbynature

There is no risk,Sylvia. We need assets for the future.Don’t really get all this hate for Lin.He’s a decent player and a good Christian guy.I like him.

  • LA Knight

    Lin= No Anthony

Lin is a decent player but why help the Rox?

    PG- Bledsoe
    SG- Kobe
    SF- Deng
    PF- Randle
    C- Gasol

    Still a damn good team

Bench: Hill, Kelly, Clarkson, Swaggy P,

    C’mon Mitch make it happen!

    • Sagar

and how lakers can get bledsoe???suns will match any offer..

    • michael

That wont happen in one million years…

    • Raffaele D’Abrusco

Anthony is gone: he’s choosing between Knicks and Bulls. Love is all about joining James in Cleveland and Stephenson is probably too expansive for what he’s worth. We better keep our cap space available for next year free agency.

    • Isaac Settle

Can’t get Bledsoe because Suns will match. Maybe if they use up their cap space and the team still has their’s.

      • LA Knight

Well, the Suns have four PG’s now. Bledsoe, Ennis, Dragic, and Isiah Thomas. D’antoni’s second coming, LOL? I’m sure at least one NBA team will give Bledsoe a bloated offer sheet. Looks like the Rockets got screwed in the end though. So I’m ok with Lin’s expiring contract and the 1st rounder.

  • Kevin M Perez-Allen

    I say do it.

Also, sign and trade with NY: Gasol, Kobe and Nash, take back Stoudemire and Barngani’s expiring contracts and young talent like Early, pair them with Lin, Clarkson and Randle, have a decent season next year and rebuild with a TON of cap space next summer.

    • independentbynature

Forget about Amare’s contract.Bargnani,maybe.We need draft picks for the future. It beats over paying and committing to FAs that will tie up our cap for next year.

      • Kevin M Perez-Allen

Amare and Bargnani are both expiring contracts, as is Lin. I’d take those contracts for this year, which is a weak crop of FA’s, to have massive cap space next year.

        • independentbynature

Amare’s is just too big,23 mil.

    • Edy

I guess ur right we need to think ahead plus kobe wants to win now not later hell probably wouldn’t mind heading to the knicks

    • arrogant frog

I think the Lakers have dodged a bullet in missing out on Melo. It would have been exciting, but we wouldn’t have won more than 45-50 games, and won the west with just him.

I also think it’s unlikely we will get K. Love too, he will get traded at some time before the deadline, maybe Cleveland or somewhere where he can win straight away.

I think what is best for the Lakers is we gather some expiring contracts, that will give us flexibility going forward. I don’t mind Lin if it comes with a 1st round, wouldn’t mind Anthony Bennett too, if it comes for free and better draft picks.

The only player I really want now is Lance Stephenson or Bledsoe, but I’m sure Phoenix will match anything we offer.

Keep Kobe fresh, play him no more than 30-35mins a game and chase Durant and Anthony Davis.

Can you imagine Durant, Randle, Davis front court in 2015/16, Kobe looks after himself, he can still play at a high level, like Grant Hill did till he was 40.

We wont be winning title in the next 2 seasons, I’m sorry to say.

  • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

Any way we can get Asik as well? He could either be kept as our future defensive center or perhaps sent to NO for whatever they offered to HOU.

Lin is a rental player. Some depth with an expiring contract. Could we still sign Lance or Ariza/Deng?

Lin/Lance/Kobe/Randle/Asik or even Lance/Kobe/Ariza-Deng/Asik? If we could work it out, I’d watch it.

    • Badazztj12

I thought Asik was trade to pelicans. If we can get both lin and Asik. That would solve our pg and defensive C problem. We can stretch Nash and still get Lance

      • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

I was under the impression that agreed upon trade had a wrench thrown into it when the real cap #s were over 100k lower than the estimate was. I doubt we’ll get.Asik, but I’d love it if we could.

      • Sti1lmatic

Is Asik the one that Fd up Chicagos playoff run a couple seasons ago by missing free throws in the last final seconds of the game?

    • meep

dude asik is gone he was traded awhile ago

      • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

From what I understand, the Asik trade was agreement only based on the estimated salary cap. When the real cap was lower than the estimate, that threw a wrench into that trade. Unless I misunderstood something.

  • NITSbleedPURP

This would just be flat out stupid! What happened the the heart of a winner in this front office?! Lin has to be the most overrated player with hype only because he went to Harvard! Don’t waste the teams time on trying to make the fans believe this is a good deal. Get quality players! Make this team better NOW! Aldridge is signing an extension next year, Love is almost certainly going to the Cavs via trade, and you think KD is going to leave OKC? Pick up Thomas, who averages the same #s Irving does. Pick up a confident shooter in Lance Stephenson. Attempt to resign Pau to a one or two year deal. At least compete! You owe that to Kobe who has put this team on his back for years! This is a LAKERS organization!! The Lakers never wait years to get better. Get your head out of your ass JIM! Your father would be so disappointed to see you sit back and not take aggressive chances to make this team the way he built it. Make something happen, ASAP!!

    GO LAKERS!

    • Edy

You actually motivated me there for minute and ur so right we need to be looking ahead

    • Spade

They owe Kobe nothing. They gave him his thank you or did you forget that $48.5 million contract extension. That’s his repayment. For now we stock up on assets and draft picks. For now we look long term and rebuild the team. Yeah it’s going to be long. Yeah it’s going to be painful. But there are no other realistic options on the table. Muhammed Ali said it best, “Even the greatest have to suffer sometimes”.

    • Monix

So you’d rather be mediocre in a loaded western conference rather than rebuild the right way?

  • Tim

It’s sad days for the Lakers since Mitch and Jim have struck out.Vegas 65/1 FML

  • meep

Houston is finalizing a deal to send Jeremy Lin to the Lakers, league source tells Yahoo Sports.what!!!!

  • Julio

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Jackson

hell no! We don’t want this guy and we certainly don’t want to help Houston.

  • SELL THE TEAM , FIRE EVERYONE

JUST KICK THE FANS IN THE FACE WITH THAT FUCKIN MOVE I WONT SPEND A NICKEL ON NEXT SEASON PERIOD AND BUSS FAMILY HAS TO GO !!!
    #LAKERS4LIFE

  • Jackson

$15 million reasons NOT to pick up Houston’s trash.

    • independentbynature

      Ridiculous statement….

  • Andy L

Lakers are becoming the dumpster of the NBA. Jeremy Lin??? Just ’cause we need draft picks? I remember when we yawned at the thought of draft picks. And now the rumour is sign and trade Gasol for Boozer. Jeez… L A DUMPSTERS!

  • Ron

It’s a panic move by the Lakers FO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Don’t do it!!!!!!!!!!

    • Monix

It’s not a panic move at all. It’s a reality, Rebuilding teams have to take on expiring contracts to get draft picks.

  • Andrew Nguyen

    Cool story bro

  • Joe

No one wants to play with Kobe. Too old and a ball hog. Start loading up 1st round draft picks

  • lakerfan

    Just a thought
    PG Jeremy Lin/Marshall/Clarkson
    SG Kobe/Young/Bazemore
    SF Ariza/Xavier
    PF Randle/Kelly
    C Asik/Hill/Sacre

    • BULL

      ASIK? HES TAKEN MY BOI

      • BULL

I apologize Laker fan, Asik deal with the Pelicans is not official yet.. but the deal in on the table and looks to be done.. u are right you never know what happens.. but 8 mill already off the books if Lin comes.. taken both would be a lot.. but u never know

    • Monix

Asik is going to New Orleans. Ariza isn’t worth whatever he’s about to make. And I don’t want Swaggy No-D back. I agree on bringing back Bazemore and Xavier too.

  • Jackson

Jim Buss is dumb but he can’t be this dumb, can he? Letting Houston unload a huge salary to sign Bosh? We don’t need cap space.

    • Spade

But we do need draft picks.

    • independentbynature

He’s looking a lot smarter than you.

  • socali

In the words of Hitler. NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN. I do not want Jeremy Lin on the Lakers. I’d rather have Kendall Marshall

    • OG RiceBone

You mean you would rather have a D-League player controlling our offense who plays no defense. J-Lin plays lockdown defense and guess what he can pass and SHOOT. Big emphasis on shooting because of the fact Marshall can’t do any sort of shooting other than passes.

      • socali

Jeremy Lin plays defense? LOL. I’ve seen him play. He gets burned 95% of the time on D.

  • Jackson

Don’t do it, Mitch. Don’t do it!

  • Austin Acosta

My question is if Love gets traded to Cleveland n signs long-term, what other free agents will b available? CuZ I have no idea?

  • meep

i really want to know what this deal is it better be good.

  • Kap

I guess, Geezus, this is what the Lakers have fallen to? Acquiring Jeremy Lin is our “BIG” move?

  • meep

The Rockets finalizing Jeremy Lin, a future first-round pick and other draft considerations to the Lakers, league source tells Yahoo.

  • Bernie

Terrible feeling when you become the dumpster of the NBA.Trash owner sell team!

  • Badazztj12

I heard we are getting stronger in this trade. Heard It on ESPN

  • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

So apparently the deal for Lin to L.A. is very close, according to Marc Stein.
