Lakers Rumors & News Recap: Changes Are Coming, But It’s Not The Lakers

Not too much has been going on in La La Land, except for the impeding wait to see if this Howard trade will ever go through. Orlando hasn’t made its mind up yet as to where Howard will go next season. With Coach Stan Van Gundy being fired and GM Otis Smith parting ways, Orlando has a lot to think about that doesn’t concern Howard.

The search for a new head coach has been underway, and the franchise has narrowed the choices down to three candidates: Philadelphia 76ers’ Michael Curry, Phoenix Suns’ Lindsey Hunter and Jacque Vaughn from the Spurs, who appears to be the front runner. Hiring a new head coach may have become the top priority Orlando moving forward. It looks like we will continue waiting to hear about Howard for a bit longer.

Rafael Nadal, professional tennis player, sustained an undisclosed injury this weekend, pulling him from competing for Spain in the Olympics. Unfortunately for Spain, Nadal was set to represent them as Spain’s flag bearer in the Opening Ceremony in London. However, the doors have opened for Pau Gasol to step in, as Spain has nominated the Los Angeles Laker to be Nadal’s replacement. Embodying an athlete that has great values on and off the court, the pick was easy for Spain. This won’t be the only time Pau is in the limelight these London Olympics; Spain is said to be the number one competition for the USA this Olympic games for the gold. USA is lacking height, which is going to be a disadvantage for them against Spain. Let the games begin!
