Lakers Rumors & News Recap: C-E-L-E-B-R-I-T-Y and OKC

How many of you saw Steve Nash on Jay Leno last night? Wasn’t he awesome?! I was thrilled to see enthusiasm from this NBA All-Star towards the prospect of the coming season, but to also get to know him a little bit more.

Nash’s first appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno went swimmingly as he talked about signing the Lakers. He also revealed that he can’t bake and shared with fans a list of other secrets. Laker fan Justin Timberlake also made an appearance to help the NBA MVP work his magic during the interview. All in all, Steve always provides entertainment, whether in his quirky commercials or YouTube videos. It sort of feels official now that Nash has done a late night talk show. Welcome to L.A., Steve!

Speaking of more Lakers in the celebrity circuit, Metta World Peace is taking part in a comedy show tonight from 7:30 to 9:30. World Peace enjoys time under the spotlight, as we have seen him shoot TV pilots, take part in kid’s programming, and dazzle us with his Twitter account. Metta is sure to do a fantastic job, as he has been preparing, in the shower….? That’s right. The big man mentioned how most of his inspiration for his comedy comes to him while he’s cleaning up. Some people sing, and some people tell jokes.

Time Warner Cable (TWC) SportsNet, has just released their new programming lineup, which will start on October 1, 2012. Here, fans can see live Lakers programming seven days a week, behind the scenes access and expert analysis. TWC anticipates their most popular item to be a show they call “Access Sports Net” which will broadcast one hour before each game, showing behind the scenes content. If you want more information on upcoming shows, or how to get the package, take a look at Lakers Nation owner Gary Lee’s blurb from yesterday.

If you’ve ever been curious to see where Lakers Nation would rank all Lakers players in history, Josh Sexton has just fed your curiosity. In his article he ranks Lakers players in history to create his very own first, second, and third teams, along with a list of honorable mentions. With the talent that has worn purple and gold, selecting the five best players, ever, was extremely difficult. Josh does a great job of explaining his rankings and has included some cool video footage for all you fans. Check out his article to see if your top five made the cut.

My favorite article from today is something every fan must read. LN has already spoken about the battle in the West between the Lakers, Clippers, Spurs, and Thunder. There will be some heated competition between these four teams for the top title. However, for now, OKC is predicted to be the Lakers’ biggest threat towards a championship run. Elizabeth Benson wrote a piece today detailing the Lakers’ top competition in Oklahoma City, and where they will have to keep their eyes open as to not crumble under the strength of this young, explosive team. Beautifully written, and including videos, Benson breaks down this rivalry perfectly. Her piece is not one you want to miss.
