Lakers Rumors: Los Angeles Notifies Player He Will Be in Howard Deal

By | July 5, 2012|

Dwight HowardThe Los Angeles Lakers and Orlando Magic are still talking about a possible block-buster trade that would send Dwight Howard to the Lakers despite the roadblocks it has already faced. There were times were both sides were reluctant to pursue the trade any further, but as the off-season progresses, more heat has picked up.

If this deal does in fact finalize, two pieces are certain, Howard and Andrew Bynum. The Magic know the best replacement for Howard is Bynum and they have always been interested in him. However, the other pieces of this trade have changed on a daily basis.

According to a source from PepperOnSports, the Los Angeles Lakers have informed one of their players that he could be dealt with Bynum very soon in a package for Howard.

The source says the Lakers have informed one player that he might be part of the package deal and that he could be traded at any moment.

The Lakers are “very interested” in acquiring Howard, according to the source.

The Lakers should do whatever it takes to acquire Howard as he would certainly make them the favorites to come out of the Western Conference in the 2012-13 season. A team of Howard, Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol is one that not many opponents will be able to stop.

At first the Lakers were not willing to acquire Howard as said he would not sign a long-term extension with the team. However, Stefan Bondy of the New York Times writes that the Lakers are not worried about Howard’s long-term future with the Lakers. The Lakers are confident they can get Howard convinced to stay for a long time if they can get back to a championship level.

    Oh shit!!

  • Eduard2424

Bynum and MWP for D12 and Jason Richardson/Hedo Turkoglu

  • Danielpeck

    I agree with Eduard

  • Eduard2424

Jason Richardson is better then Hedo but if MWP is gone, we would need a SF so I think the Lakers will end up with Hedo. Then sign Nick Young, Jordan Hill, and Grant Hill. That gives us one of the best starting line ups in the NBA, if not the best, and our bench becomes significantly better.

    • lahockeyman88

You can start Barnes, who do not forget, has played with Steve Nash. Ironically, so has Jason Richardson. Killing 2 birds with one stone, this also solves (partially) the issue in which Steve Nash would have no outside threats to create space for himself. Sign Grant Hill or Rashard Lewis and this could be fully solved.

      • realamericanhebrew

Barnes is a free agent. I dont think we will be seeing him in a Laker jersey anymore.

  • Mister_randb

    Let’s Make It Happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ghft2

Gasoline and Bynum for howard. – make it happen!

    • JayMan

no way that would be dumb

    • Gigidigigidi

      what an idiot

    • fuckthisguy

kill yourself…. literally…. people like you are the reason the human race is going to shit

  • Cailon SHaw

If we get this trade… KOBE will HAVE 6 and Nash and Howard 1st

  • JayMan

If its MWP it’s a dumb trade. We need his D skills

    • http://twitter.com/Y2Jin99 The Goat

Lol if its MWP       Yeah like Howard can’t play D?     Its Bynum not MWP  zzzzzz

  • Wunderbar_car

Hell NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! This dude does NOT want to play here!! And his back injury is worrying me big time.. I don’t much about the injury but I do know that the back is one of the most dangerous areas to get injured in. Your god dam spine is in it. Who knows what the long term effects of that is? Weakened disks? And one day he can have a slipped disk? This is horrible… If they bring in dwight then its going to be way different, which means we won’t win this season similar to what happened with the Heat…It takes time for players to get accustomed to the system. Why not go ahead with Bynum and Gasol, players who know the system. Just get 2 more shooters to spread the floor like a Nick Young type of player and your all set. Plus they want us to take on horrible contracts (either Hedo’s or Jason’s). I don’t about this, If ya’ll got a plan or an idea of how this is going to work out, reply..

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S6QYE53VFTVXXMT3TMTZKDVGSM renjo

what if..howards camp just doing that for press release?NBA is a business..whoever give them the ryt rpice and exposure for potential endorsemnt deal….even if they dont want it..they can easily eat their pride and play bcoz of the “price tag”

    • http://www.facebook.com/yashuab Yashua Bradley

HE MIGHT HAVE BACK PROBLEMS BUT U GOT TO REMEMBER HE CAN SCORE HE WILL GET10 OR MORE BOARDS AND I’M NOT EVEN A TEENAGER YET

  • Eduard2424

Another scenario that works is Bynum and Blake for Howard and Richardson. Then the Lakers have to sign Sessions so he can back up Nash. If that happens, then the Lakers wouldn’t need Nick Young. Richardson will back up Kobe. The Lakers would still need to sign Grant Hill and Jordan Hill

  • enrique

If this goes down, I’m convinced that Steve Blake is going to be the person attached to this trade. I’d rather take J-Rich or Hedo, that’s a good back-up for Kobe. Starting five: Nash, Kobe, MWP, Gasol, Howard. And their bench: Goudelock, J. Hill, G. Hill, Nick Young, Richardson, Morris. (assuming they sign Grant Hill, Young and re-sign Jordan Hill and Ebanks leaves).

  • Eduard2424

Winning will convince Dwight to stay. That’s all that matters. Bynum has no heart. He doesn’t deserve to be here. I’ve never seen D12 quit, he plays hard every game. I can’t say the same about Bynum. Wunderbar, back injuries are always a serious issue, but so are having your knees operated on 3 times, all being major surgeries like bynum.

    • Margarite

I wonder about someone who questions a pro player heart!

    • Deptic86

Get the fuck out. Dwight stopped trying when he started talking shit about Stan van Gundy. Dwight wasn’t even doing as good as Bynum after the all star games. Bynum just needs to grow up. Now that we have Steve, you’ll see Bynum get better. I promise you.

  • BenGal915

I would rather get JJ Reddick with D12 and give the Lakers another sharp shooter that spreads the floor.

    • http://www.facebook.com/newton.pallais Newton Pallais

I agree JJ Redick with Howard would be amazing, but I dont think Orlando would do that, unless they give Artest and blake as part of the deal as well…

  • LakerDownUnder

you guys just posy anything and try and try and give it wait by adding it to your website with a photo and name at the bottom.

This story is crap and has already been called out for a fake Twitter name.

  • http://twitter.com/josiahsmommy Crystal Alcala

I dunno what to think? Even when Steve Nash is an elite point guard majority of the teams are much younger and faster! D12 iz awesome but I dnt see him being committed and there for acting lyk a spoiled brat and not playing his all only because he didn’t get his way!!! I think LA is a contender w/or w/o D12!

    • Bane

crystal good point but id rather see dwight committed for one year then bynum not committed at all for three more years, but still i’d rather have a more athletic center for nash cuz i think it would work better and plus i think dwight is a better defender. just my opinion :)

      • Margarite

Bynum not committed? How do you know that? Don’t tell me you read it on the internet.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001347000036 Zyad Elmaghraby

Bynum said it himself when they lost against the thunder in the playoffs. A reporter asked him ” what are your chances with the lakers?” Bynum said ” Im willing to go anywhere  ”

  • Mash

trade bynum. coward is better than bynum

    • Margarite

You got the name correct (Coward)

  • http://www.facebook.com/newton.pallais Newton Pallais

D Howard has to pass a fisical if im not mistaken first with Lakers Doctors to get the deal done.
2nd if D Howard doesnt sign the extension first (Commmitement) with L.A.  I don’t see any reasons the Lakers should trust Howard or take a chance on him that way!

  • http://www.facebook.com/jason.black.509511 Jason Black

I LUV LA WE LUV IT

  • chasper

Can someone tell why this deal is not happening already……

    • Msanchez1421

because trades that involve this many players take time…the nash deal took 3 days and it was ONE player.

      • chasper

        that’s true

  • Guest

Don’t know why everyones saying Dwight will leave Lakers for nothing. Worst case scenario, Lakers will just trade him before free agency begins after next season.

    • Jvhockey01

       doesnt work like that

    • Jvhockey01

       doesnt work like that

  • manuel

How on earth could anyone match up with a line-up that includes: Nash, Kobe, Howard, and Gasol, who the hell are you gonna double? This would be so unfair to the rest of the league… yet so satisfying to win beat the S*** out of everyone, our guys didn’t buddy up, we traded for them. that’s how you do it!

    • poop

no one can match up with the current line up either

  • http://twitter.com/jayroalvarez Jayro Alvarez

Please, lets hope the “player” that was informed that he could be traded was not MWP. As long as it’s not him, KB, or Gasol, we can win it all this season!

  • Dominic C

The Lakers absolutely must be wary of Dwight Howard’s injury. If you trade Bynum for him, then find out later that he’s got a lingering injury that disables him, What’s next? I’ll stick with Bynum. At least he’s healthy. Nobody can predict the future. My opinion is that Dwight Howard must heal first, be 100% healthy and then make a move to acquire him. I am not taking chances with him. Besides, why would you deal with Dwight Howard when he’s saying he doesn’t want to be Laker?

    • Guest

i think the lakers will do their homework before pulling such an enormous trade

  • http://www.facebook.com/jorge.pimentel.3532 Jorge Pimentel

GET HOWARD AND SMITH FROM ATLANTA.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Elcid-Martinez/100000738014176 Elcid Martinez

Im conflicted about this posible trade. If Bynum can get his head straight with his body, there is no one better then him, not even Howard. However, deep in my bones i belive bynum doesntnt have the tenacity and will to win. He dissapears when things dont go his way. Can he outgrow this? My feeling is no. Trade for Howard. I reluctanty say this because and ony because of Nash. If they dont get howard this issue will linger. Nash is a great PG but not a therapist. “/

  • http://www.facebook.com/jorge.pimentel.3532 Jorge Pimentel

GET HOWARD FOR BYNUM AND SMITH FROM ATLANTA FOR GASOL.
    SURE “CHAMPIONSHIP IN 2012-2013″., LAKERS,LAKERS,LAKERS!!!!!!!

  • Lequang242

If I am not mistaken, Bynum is also a free agent after next season. What make the lakers think they can resign him again with all this trade talk about him? There no risk what so ever in making this swap. By next season you gonna have to convince either Howard or Bynum to stay.

  • Fdas

i dont really understand the whole bynum/artest for howard/richardson cuz artests contract is just as bad as j richs. i dont understand why orlando would do that. would love to see it happen tho

  • Wrongartist

trade bynum and wrong artist. for howard. and bring back the versatile ariza trebor

  • Ankush B

You guys don’t understand that the lakers don’t have cap room to sign sessions or young. They want to be starters and there not gonna take a bench role. The lakers can only offer players the mid level exception which I believe is 3.4 mil. I like Howard and he’ll be good next year. Grant hill is a possibility because he’s only worth a mid level exception. You guys have to do your homework lol

    • Jvhockey01

there’s also the veterans minimum and you can also resign anyone on your roster from last year (i.e. sessions if we wanted him) for any amount

  • Rrandal2

get dwight now, sorry bynum love ya, but uhhh we need a athletic big man, the nba has evolved

  • ThisGuy

I feel bad for the other teams.  Cause we can get what we want hahahahahahahaha.  All day every day and even twice a day.

  • Michelangelo

I just want D12, because the faster LA gets him the sooner LA can start focusing on improving the bench

  • LakersChampionshipOrBust

This trade needs to happen now.  I don’t know about you guys but I cringe everytime Bynum leaves his feet because of his bad knees, He can get seriously injured on every play.  Bynum is very slow on defense; Ibaka and perkins were easily beating him from baseline to baseline; Bynum’s pick and roll defense was always late.  Howard won’t have any of these problems on defense and offensively he will be a beast as well.  How many alley oops is Howard gonna average a game with Nash,Kobe and Pau all capable of lobb passes and Howard is the best in the business at grabbing anything near the rim.  Howard will still average over 20 points a game just in dunks alone.  There is now way he will not re-sign with the lakers after a record breaking year next season , especially since the lakers would be able to offer him the max because they would hold his bird rights .Honestly can you imagine them losing more than 12 games if everyone stays healthy?   World Peace was asked last night about Howard; his response was that Bynum was the best center in the NBA, kept repeating this over and over.  He thanked the lakers for giving him the opportunity to be here even if they traded him.  Looks to be like they already informed him that’s he’s on his way out.

  • ocljr

    You all are trippin’, picture this;

    PG Steve Nash
    SG Kobe Bryant
SF Ron Artest (Hedo if MWP gets traded)
PF Pau Gasol (Or Derrick Williams/Luis Scola if Pau gets traded)[other players too]
    C Dwight Howard

    Bench

    PG Steve Blake/Morris
    SG Brandon Rush/Goudelock
    SF Devin Ebanks
    PF Antwan Jamison/Rashard Lewis
    C Gonzaga Kid/ Jordan Hill

  • Hahahyt

    KOBEs thebest Bye bye Metta

    • the guy above me likes the D

eat shit dude… not metta… you

  • Poimen1

I would prefer Blake and Bynum and possibly Mc Roberts than Metta at this point. Metta is a great man to man defender we need him in playoffs situations.

  • http://www.facebook.com/darrianv10 Darrian Nelson

my only issue with this is who is going to be the starter and who will be benched?

  • Xiongteng4

Who ever says we are gonna in a championship this year. Thats a joke. Dwights back will evntally get hurt and well be screwed. And With Gasol being a pwuss will get punked around again. Good Luck Lakers.

  • Joelsky

I think Bynum and Blake for Howard is better. We need Metta for our defense and get Session back for PG back up. This is a sure winner.

  • Lol

its gonna be MWP and BYNUM for HOWARD

  • Gmoney

LAKERS NOTIFIED MWP THAT HE WILL BE IN THE PACKAGE. HOWARD, KOBE, PAU, NASH, ?
OR BYNUM, PAU, NASH, KOBE, MWP
ARE THEY GONNA GET GRANT HILL?

  • Sti1lmatic

I think we all need to take a step back and relax.
Nash will make this team shine. Gasol + Nash will be one hell of a duo.
No need to push for any D12. If he doesn’t want to “play
with Kobe” then let it be. He’ll be wishing he did when we win another title this upcoming season.

  • Do Research

Wow, you can’t even do RESEARCH. Stefan writes for the NY Daily News, not the NYT. FAIL!!!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001347000036 Zyad Elmaghraby

GO FOR IT! get Howard. If you’re willing to trade bynum and MWP for Howard and Richardson, that wud be crazy. I say trade Bynum and Blake

  • Stephenyoung51

The last thing the Lakers need is a sniveler with a bad back!!!!!!!

  • Frankelee

The Lakers said they were now not planning a trade for Howard, and then a fake story comes out on twitter and everybody runs with it.

  • Aaron

Dwight Howard can’t go to Brooklyn any other way if he’s not traded. And once he becomes a free agent the Lakers can offer him way more money than other teams and he would get max money in his adidas endorsement deal being in LA. He wouldn’t go anywhere if he comes to LA

  • http://twitter.com/Y2Jin99 The Goat

If this happens its only because the Lakers haven’t been in the Finals 2 years in a row. GASP!   So that means make sure the NBA does what it can to make the Lakers relevant for TV ratings.     Dwight wants to play in Brooklyn not Hollywood.  I will believe this trade when I see it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/yashuab Yashua Bradley

We don’t need him but it will be good to get him he is one of the best centers in the NBA
