Lakers Rumors: Los Angeles Interested in Jamison and O’Neal

By | July 15, 2012|

The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to strengthen their bench after claiming one of the worst second units in the NBA last season. The bench was well below average, and the front office understands that it needs to fix its issues.

The Lakers already added All-Star guard Steve Nash to the lineup and it is now time to move on to other priorities. According to sources, the Lakers are targeting Antawn Jamison and Jermaine O’Neal.

The Lakers hope one of the three veteran bigs accept the veteran’s minimum. The team also has the ‘mini’ mid-level exception, which begins at $3 million per year, but prefer to hold onto that in case a Dwight Howard trade is consummated.

Los Angeles was interested in adding Elton Brand to the roster, but he was quickly picked up by the Mavericks after the 76ers amnestied him. However, if Los Angeles really wants to improve the team, the best option is Jamison. He still has several years in front of him, and can surely help bring the Lakers to another level.

What happened to Grant Hill? I thought he’s also in Laker’s wishlist.

  • Alexgomezaz

just grant hill and jamison and we will have a strong bench

i love jordan hill and oj mayo trade blake are who ever on the bench to pay for them two to come off the bench. then our bench would be solid ever nate that play in golden state would be a good pick up. If we get grant hill, jamerson we will have a team full of old heads we need some speed to go up against okc, miami, teams like that.

Thats what i’ve been saying Trade Blake and whoever off the bench in this sense I would have to say it has to be either Gouldelock or Odom. They two are too similar undersized SG. I think the Lakers love Gouldelock so automatically it becomes Odom.

I say Blake, Mcroberts and Odom in a sign and trade for Mayo.

Mayo is going to demand 6-7mil per year.

Blake makes 4 and Mcroberts makes 3 dont no bout Odom yet but yeah…

This deal gives Memphis a Solid PG who is in his last year of contract i think (Last or 2 more year) and Mcroberts whos in his last year of his deal. Mcroberts prob end up being 3 string PF and C for them but hey i think it gives them depth. Odom would be another Cheaper version of Mayo. Undersized SG.

If they want more piece chuck in Gouldelock. So we trade Goudelock, Odom, Mcroberts and Blake for Mayo.

      I say pretty sweet deal.

We need a mix of youth and veterans off the bench we should pick up brandon rush, jodie meeks, grant hill, antawn jamison, jordin hill, greg oden give him a chance or jermaine. we can use as much bench as we can get.

  • Dave0243

IT’S QUITE APPARENT, A LOT OF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF “PRODUCTIVE BENCH”.. ONEAL(WHO I WAS HOPING THE LAKERS HAD GRABBED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO) & JAMISON ARE TRULY IDEAL PLAYERS COMING OFF OF THE BENCH FOR THIS TEAM… ULL HAVE SIZE TO HOLD DOWN THE MIDDLE(FOR DEFENSE) AND ATHLETICISM IN JAMISON TO KEEP POINTS ON THE BOARD WHEN THE STARTERS ARE OUT.. NOW, IF THE CLOWN BROWN PLAYS MCROBERTS(YOUR HUSTLE AND FLOW) MORE, GIVING HIM MORE CONFIDENCE… THERE WOULD BE A VERY VERY SOLID CORE BENCH

mitch stop these fucking RUMORS….GET IT DONE!

Grant Hill is kinda old and worn out by now. I’d say try to free up cap space this year and sign Jamison. Antwan can give us 14 points, 6-7 rebs. per game off the bench. I’d also get rid of Blake and Murphy.

  • BlackRobbb

Sad to see that some of you fools don’t realize that Odom went back to the Clippers and not the Lakers. IJS.

Sounds like the team is “spending” and budgeting for all of the big $ contracts to end in the same year. Then, take whatever’s left and rebuild quickly.  Also, they need one year of being under the cap as to avoid the $1 tax of being over 5/5 years.  – We’ve got 2 (maybe 3) years, then we see a blown up team. I like what i see. It seems like the organization is going “all in” for Kobe’s last 2 “big money” seasons.
