Lakers Rumors: Lakers Set to Meet with Antawn Jamison

By | July 4, 2012|

Over the course of the last few days, the Los Angeles Lakers have been involved in many different trade rumors with speculation running rampant in the City of Angels. Even though the Lakers continue to explore blockbuster deals to bring in Steve Nash and or Dwight Howard, the team is also considering other options to improve the roster.

One of those options may be veteran forward Antawn Jamison according to Sam Amico of FoxSportsOhio via Twitter:

“Lakers also expected to meet with Antawn Jamison, probably early next week. Before you ask, he could put off Bobcats for year or two.”

It appears that Jamison is determined to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers in an effort to potentially cash in on a short-term deal one more time and or finally be able to compete for an NBA title.

Despite Jamison being 36 years-old, the former North Carolina standout is still very efficient when given the minutes to contribute. Last season, Jamison averaged 17.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in 33 minutes on the floor as the second-best player on the team behind Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving.

The consensus has been that Jamison wanted to sign with the Charlotte Bobcats in an effort to return home before calling it a career. Apparently, the veteran forward is keeping his options open and is seriously considering signing with a contender.

If the Lakers ultimately trade Pau Gasol, Jamison would be a nice fit in Los Angeles for the short-term. As long as he can stay healthy, which he did last season playing in 65 games, the 14-year veteran might be a steal for the Lakers in free agency.

trade gasol for smith or even if you dont our bench is instantly improved and we dont have to worry about signing jordan hill back and we have our rookie robert sacre who can hopefully fill in the role of backing up bynum hes already said hes going to work very hard to get kobe his 6th ring and ik u cant depend on the last pick of the draft to be good its just wishful thinking lol

how if you trade a starter for a starter does that help the bench??…if anything it makes our low post offense waaaaay weaker….

Hilarious.  Jamison is HORRIBLE.  Jacked up shot after shot with Cleveland, with nobody ever telling him “no.”  A pathetic 40% shooter, bad rebounder, worst defender in the league, bar none.  Yeah, he’s just perfect for the Lakers.

We will sign Grant Hill with the Vets minimum in the next week, watch, Kobe and Nash are already calling him to come on over.
As for Jamison, he shot a poor percentage because defenses could focus on him since the Cavs only had Irving as any other threat, with the Lakers, that won’t be the case, Bynum, Gasol, Kobe, Nash, And Grant Hill are all legit threats.
Jamison still scored 17.8 points per game.

he is not good, only reason why he able to score 20+ in wizard because he get to shoot what he want.

What everybody seems to overlook is that no matter which players you have if the coach does not know how to use them you still won’t win! Yes, Pau plays weak, Barnes makes stupid fouls at the wrong time, Kobe tries too hard and causes turnovers, Bynum is lazy at time, but used the right ways and in the right position the Lakers can win a championship! Coach Brown lost a lot of games because he pulled his starters too early when they had a 10 or 12 point lead…this is the NBA and 10 or 12 points is only 3 or 4 shots. What happened to the killer instinct of piling on the points while you can and when you get a 25 or 30 point lead rest his starters 2 at a time, not 3 and 4 at a time. Coach Brown does not know how to assemble a solid rotation and when a players game gets hot he pulls them and changes the rotation that was working. Anybody ever think the coach may be a major part of the Lakers problem?

Lakers blow leads….its always been that way. You have to give Mike Brown a full season before judging him. He had a worst team than Phil Jackson had the season before and got more out of them. The Lakers did not install an offense at all and still made it to 2nd round and blew the series. You are over looking the fact that the Lakers have been without a floor general for years.

We blew leads because of an extremely weak bench, with Jamison, Grant Hill, Blake, Gouldlock, and the new rookie center, Sacre we will be much better when the starters go out. The starters will be formatable, Bynum, Gasol, MWP, Kobe, and Nash.

Now we got Nash we dont have to trade gasol or bynum. We just need shooters. Ray Allen, Jason Terry, Ryan Anderson, etc. Grant Hill most likely will join the team and Sessions is outta here. The most important thing Lakers need now is a COACH for all the talent we have.

Why is it most of the nimrods on this site think that every player on the open market is better than Gasol and Bynum, two players that have incredible talent at their positions. Jamison will play small forward, and back up Gasol at power forward, not replace Pau, as for Howard for Bynum, I checked last years stats across the board, there so close, its not worth the risk.
Bynum, Pau, Jamison, Kobe and Nash, with a bench of Blake, Gouldlock, Grant Hill, and MWP would be great.
