Lakers Rumors: L.A. Unwilling to Trade Pau Gasol for Rajon Rondo

By | March 12, 2012|

The Los Angeles Lakers may have defeated the Boston Celtics on the court on Sunday, but it seems that the team’s front offices have had conversations surrounding their players as well.

One of the most commonly discussed trades lately has involved Boston’s Rajon Rondo and the Lakers’ power forward Pau Gasol. According to Mike Bresnahan of the L.A. Times, however, the Lakers were unwilling to give up Gasol in a deal for Rondo.

The Lakers are unwilling to trade Pau Gasol for Rondo, making a deal with Boston unlikely before the trade deadline Thursday.

Bresnahan also reported that a source close to the situation declared the Lakers inability to acquire Rondo without giving up their prized 7-footer. However, that sentiment seems to go beyond just Boston and Rondo. Bresnahan’s source claims that the team will be unable to acquire an All-Star caliber point guard without losing Gasol, which is something they’ve been hesitant to do thus far.

Trade Gasol!!! Rondo is the perfect point guard for our ball club. Pass first, killer defense. Gasol has become a third option behind Bynum & Kobe. He has helped bring two championships to LA and will always be known for that but we need to think not only about the present but the future. With Gasol out, we could really exploit Bynum and pick up a back up in Sheed. Bring in Beasley to take on the always missed L.O. role and we are back in business!!!

    THAT SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT !

U never trade big for small sorry. rondo will not mesh wit kobe they both ball hoggers

    • http://twitter.com/MaKeItRaIn24 Nicholas Mills

u get 18 assist being a ball hog? and he does get double assist quiet often and he defends and rebounds good for point…damn lakers fans hate just cuz its boston i believe

  • Jaironnecastillo

gasol-goudelock-mcroberts  for rondo and garnet…the acquired  sheed and agent zero…

The team had better start appeasing Kobe and the fans. The status quo will lead to a locker mutiny and a quick departure for M.Brown. Jimmy needs to stop playing fantasy basketball and start making some tough decisions.

  • Karansidhu23

No, you never trade Gadol for stupid Rondo. He is the worst jump shooting of in the game, and plus he”ll just add to the lakers list of bad outside shooters(lakers are the worst 3 point point shooting team) plus rondo has a bad attitude, which won’t go well with world peace and Kobe. If Gasol gets traded it make it harder for Bynum to score because he will get more attention down low. What lakers need to go is amnesty Walton and sign a pg like Ramon.S,that’s it.

    • http://twitter.com/MaKeItRaIn24 Nicholas Mills

Nigga i cant believe u would call Rondo stupid when all the dude does is play hard night in night out and where is this bad attitude? i havent seen it….i seen him play with a dislocated elbow thats heart something him and kobe got in common…he doesnt have a jumper YET but he does EVERYTHING else kobe got the jumper bynum got the inside…rondo can distribute the ball, defend, rebound, and he still post some point on the board…stop the hate…sessions is a good pick up and they got to keep Gasol we’ll just have to see how it works out but Rondo would fit becuz of his pass first mentality

  • TikiRob

Got to keep Pau, what if Bynum goes down with an injury, this is the reason the will not move him..

  • purp&yellow

hopefully lakers can sign gilbert arenas by march 15..lakers one thru five spot can match up with any team in the league

I’m not sure why everyone is surprised the Lakers would trade one of our 7ft guys for a point guard. A few months ago, they tried to trade 2 of our tallest (Odom and Gasol) for a 4ft tall point guard named Chris Paul… It’s not about the height, even though I agree with you all. They shouldn’t trade our height, but they might. Looks like they just don’t want Rondo.

That is good deal, gasol had not perform well this season and seem only going doing worse, while rondo will address lakers most serious flaw which is PG, byrum will have more room operate.

Its not hard to get a triple double when you have a cast of has beens around you. At 26, he is the only glimpse of a soon to be forgotten champion caliber team. What the lakers need to do is except their fate for this season and do the best that they can with what they already have. Lets not forget that just 1 and a half seasons ago this team minus Odom and Brown were hoisting up their 16th banner in the rafters of the Staples Center (home that Bryant built). I agree that we need a new point guard. Giving up the best power forward in the league is not the answer. What won the last 2 championships for the lakers is their dominating size up front. Giving Bynam staying healthy and Gasol continuing to be a dominant force, this is still the best front line that money can buy. Taking our chances in the off season with free agency is our safest bet.

i stopped reading when u said its not hard to get a triple double lmao u see one every game huh? hell 2 or 3 players have them in a game…ok ok i was typing this a decided to read more…kobe is the best player in the league NOW he did NOT build staple center and gasol is not the best PF in the league that would belong to Griffin or KLove…But your finish is correct they do have the best 2 bigs but thats if they r together not on seperate teams…

What are you guys talking about “never trade big for small”? This is clearly a business deal that involves none of us FANS. I’m a Laker fan but I’m tired of others talking about BS trades that can only happen when you’re in control playing NBA LIVE or NBA 2K.

This year is one we just have to look back at and shoot for the moon next season. If Kobe can’t get the talent to help win this season or next season….it’s sad to say that he’ll never get number 6. Kobe is the king of kings but even he needs help carrying this sorry ass team.
Lakers should have at least picked up Agent Zero (Vet. Minimum) and A.I. (Vet. Minimum). What’s a couple mil to an Organization that just picked up a huge ass 3 billion dollar contract with Time Warner.

    • http://twitter.com/MaKeItRaIn24 Nicholas Mills

agreed A.I. or Agent Zero would be a good gamble for maybe a 1 year deal just to see if they still got something left in the tank

Go get Devin Harris for draft pick & Walton. Use the tpe on Beasley. wouldnt hurt to sign Arenas on a 10 day contract, better than what they have now on the bench. Harris Kobe Beasley Pau Bynum Championship!

all im saying is  rondo great point guard!! gasol is size.rondo bass for gasol got to do!!

Rondo Cant Shoot, Why Trade Gasol for him

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/F3MEL5RAVO6RJKPOFUFF57WT3U SIV024

The only trade i would do if i’m the GM is Blake for Felton other than that the team is fine I don’t know what the GM is doing but… all we need is Sessions, Beasley, and Arenas. Keep the core Kobe, Bynum and Gasol with Metta World Peace and D Fish.  WIN WIN CHAMPIONSHIP BABY!!!

  • http://twitter.com/John_LakersRule John

I don’t understand, i just don’t understand…. two first round pics for Ramon Sessions; the TPE for Michael Beasley; Steve Blake for Raymond Felton; a package of Rajon Rondo that could easily include Ray Allen, and the Lakers say no to all of them!?!. What the hell is going on!!! these teams are practically giving away their players but the Lakers refuse the deals because the price is still too high?.

I feel like I’m in a bad dream that just doesn’t end, the Lakers…. no check that Jim Buss is either in denial or has become one of THOSE owners, you know the ones that put money over the team first. Not taking on Beasley because of concerns of the luxury tax, since when have the Lakers EVER!! concerned themselves with paying over the luxury tax. Not giving up two first round picks…. seriously!?! in the past couple of years the Lakers have traded their 1st round picks like they were worthless junk, hell they gave up three 1st round picks in the Pau Gasol deal.

The Lakers need to acquire Felton or Session, Beasley, and trade Pau Gasol for a young talented player like Rondo or Smith. If the Lakers don’t do this the season is all but over.

Im all for it. I love Gasol but buisness is buisness

  • Lakers603

Get Brandon Jennings now. Pau, Ebanks and Morris for Jennings, Drew Gooden and Jackson. LA will be taking a serious cap hit but a lineup of Jennings, Bryant, Jackson, Gooden (who is having a great year), and Bynum would be dangerous and set the Lakers up for a title run. Meanwhile Milwaukee will get free some cap room, and get an All-Star caliber big to play alongside Bogut (when he returns and if he remains a Buck) making a formidable front court.

i dont believe this rumor.  boston doesn’t want an old gasol who makes twice as much as rondo.  when allen, pierce, and garnette are done.  u have an aging Gasol to build ur team around?
