Lakers Rumors: Kevin Love To Choose Between Lakers, Timberwolves

Share on FacebookTweet about this on Twitter

The Lakers have been very careful about saving as much cap room as possible for the next two off-seasons. There are a number of big name free agents and one who has continually been linked to the team is Kevin Love.

There have been a number of rumors about Love wanting to be a Laker, and the team has already tried to make moves to obtain him via trade.

Love will be a free agent after the 2015 season, and according to the New York Times’ Frank Isola, Love will be choosing between the Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves once he hits the market:

There are some interesting names out there including Kevin Love, who can become a free agent in 2015. But the word is Love will either re-sign with Minnesota or head to the Lakers, which sounds more plausible.

The Lakers seem to be going all-in on the idea of acquiring Love, and possibly Kevin Durant in the summers of 2015 and 2016. Just getting Love will undoubtedly help the Lakers turn things around fairly quickly.

Love will have an interesting decision to make when he hits free agency. The Timberwolves, on paper, have a better roster right now than the Lakers with Nikola Pekovic, Ricky Rubio, and Kevin Martin all being key pieces.

Joining the Lakers would be believing in the ability of Mitch Kupchak to build a championship caliber team around him, which he has a history of doing.

All signs are beginning to point to the summer of 2015, not 2014, being the time when the Lakers make their big moves.

Kevin Love will choose the Timberwolves. The Lakers don’t need him anyways.Rebuild through the draft and only add free agents that are all in for LA.

    • nlruizjr

exactly, sounds like Klove wants to pull another DHoward, the Lakers don’t have to kiss his a@@ to play for the Lakers, he either wants to or doesn’t, if Love wants to stay in mediocrity, then stay with the “Grizzlies”, simple as that but don’t start this same sh## that DH played on us.

      • Chrmngblly

        Yeah. The “Grizzlies”. Very funny.

        • Daryl Peek

          HAHAHAHA

      • Daryl Peek

Why are you mad at him? What do you expect Love to say? He would be absolutely doing the Coward/Melo thing if he spoke any differently.

      • Tweek12

Wow. Thought Love was with the Timberwolves. I must really be disconnected from the NBA lol.

        • Chrmngblly

          Shhhhhhhhhhh…….:-)

    • Kay Carter

If we rebuild thru draft, it’ll take years for us to win a ship :/

  • Bull>Lion

    Kevin Love is vastly overrated.

    • Kay Carter

Why must you continue to troll lol

  • Daryl Peek

Trading Pau for K. Love is still the best option for both parties. Gasol is showing he still has life and wold be happy playing in Minny with Rubio.

    • Sam

hoping with all my heart for a sign and trade this summer and then getting exum, wiggins, or embiid in the draft. am i asking for too much? lol

      • Daryl Peek

If the lotto ball falls in our favor I’d roll with Embiid.

        • Sam

probably the smartest/most valuable asset considering the lack of good big men in the league right now…. but as a kobe fan, can’t help but wonder if exum or wiggins is the next to receive the torch in the mj/kobe line of great sgs

          • Daryl Peek

I’m indifferent on those guys. Too much hype for me, plus it usually takes several years for them to develop that championship level of play/leadership.

      • comrade24

        no Jabari Parker?

    • Chrmngblly

He could possibly play the 4 with Rubio but I personally see Pau as a center playing for the Lakers, these days. Otherwise, it is the unemployment line and then skid row soon thereafter, for the big Spaniard. Skid row’s not that bad is it, Daryl?

What do you think of that other European guy, Colison, btw?

      • Daryl Peek

        Skid row?!?

Pau would be much better in Minny with Rubio and Pekovic. Rick Addleman runs a hybrid Princeton system offensively. When he coached the Kings to success he ran the same system. Pau and Pek could be like Vlade and Webber.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying Pau couldn’t thrive with the Lakers and MDA but given he likes a slower paced half court controlled system, playing for Addleman on that team would be ideal.

Not sure who this European, Colison is?

        • Chrmngblly

Clint Colison, 6-10, C —–somebody ranks him #10

  • Rezsurfer

Love is one the best your all on crack saying no to him… yall want that over hyped and rated Melo i bet thats a big hell NO

  • TheCharityStrikeDotCom

Kupchak does not have a history of building championship teams, he only knows how to ride West’s coat tails.

    • KrazyRed__Swag

Oh Yeah kupChak may not have history of building championship but i bet he has championship rings than you do. kupchack will hang around and keep the dice rolling getting championship playa. You feel me!!!

  • vdogg

sick and tired of all this stuff. i really hope it doesn’t turn into the billboard situation that we had with dwight. no one should have to beg anyone to be a laker. if you want to be a laker, great. if not, then don’t. it’s pretty simple.

    • Chrmngblly

Yes, truly. This is like that movie where the mutant virus infects all of humanity and only a few are spared. You and I have been spared, Vdogg. Love is not LBJ or KD or the second coming of Karl Malone, either. He’s also had an injury plagued history of his own.

next year is going to be interesting, I think . I think depending on who they draft, if it’s exum or maybe embiid. but regardless, i think signing Trevor Ariza would be good a good inexpensive option at SF. keeping meeks-bazemore (Cheap qualifying offer)-farmar-henry-would be my priorities if possible. Keeping ryan kelly is inexpensive, sacre is on a cheap deal too, so is kendall marshall. I’m not sure Meeks will stay. I can’t see hill/kaman/young staying. I think Young will net a better offer, lakers can’t afford to pay mini or full mle for him in my opinion. Pau – I think should should be signed and traded preferable for a C/PF who can add depth, protect the rim…by then draft position willl be known so the lakers will have a good idea of whether embiid is an option or not. If he is, trading pau for any value, whether a pick/player would be good. His contract will be alot easier to trade. Or…you keep him at a discount depending on who’s drafted.

I’d really be looking to sign and trade pau for one or both an upcoming pg and/or rental stretch PF or you know, a deal for kevin love… – possible names?

I like Wesley Johnson, but he’s wildly inconsistent. Wes is actually my favorite of all these guys, but he has been given starters minutes all season and I’ve seen no real tangible growth. He makes the same errors. I’d pick henry over him, for 2 reasons, age, and Henry is much more versatile on both sides of the ball. He also has better fundamentals. I like Marshon Brooks, too. I think he’s special and if the lakers can’t keep henry, then he should be kept. He won’t fetch a big offer.

You hope Nash won’t put himself through misery again. I feel sorry for him and wish the best for him. I don’t believe he’ll be able to play next season even if he wants to. I expect him to retire. He’s tried so hard, and for that, i respect him.

I’m really just having fun here. lol

    • Chrmngblly

Since Nash can’t seem to stay on the floor, I hope the Lakers keep him on staff somewhere. I think he has a heart for the game. Maybe he can win his ring in coaching or management. Others have.

  • TTKIN

Wouldnt it be badass if we recruited both and our future was lead by the Kevins……Durant and Love. Thatd be so awesome.

    • Chrmngblly

If you are going to dream, dream big, I say….

      • kobe24

Salary cap wise getting Durant + Love is possible
but chances of Durant coming to LA??? doesn’t seem that high (i think OKC’s gonna win a championship sooner or later with KD’s level of play and don’t see him leaving)

        • Gekko

While I agree with you, I doubt Kevin Durant will stay in OKC. It is just not a big market. I am not saying it is LA, but I think the bright lights and big city of something bigger will draw him away.

        • Purp gold god

KD’s has no chance of winning a championship in OKC. Especially if Westbrook walks. OKC had their chance in 2012 when they lost to the heat. OKC shoulda never paid ibaka they shoulda kept harden but they pockets to small.

          • Kay Carter

West might come to us to join K.Love (i hope) lol

  • a better laker coach

LAKERS MUST FIRE DANTONI TO GET A FAIR EVALUATION OF THE YOUNG PLAYERS AND TALENT ON THE ROSTER TO SEE THE ONES THAT WILL PRODUCE IN VARIOUS SYSTEMS

  • jffjf

The lakers should really be trying to get ricky rubio
