Lakers Rumors: Head Coach Mike D’Antoni Will Return Next Season

Over the past week or so, the fate of head coach Mike D’Antoni has been up in the air with no clear indication on whether the Los Angeles Lakers will keep him on the sidelines for next season.

Lakers Nation Store Is Back! Check Out The Latest Gear!

Reportedly, the Lakers brass may have made the decision to keep D’Antoni moving forward according to Mark Heisler of the OC Register:

After 10 days of soul searching, the key figures in Lakers management are agreed on bringing back D’Antoni for a third season as coach, a source with knowledge of the deliberations told the Register.

Although no official announcement has been made by the Lakers organization, it appears D’Antoni will remain in the team’s plans of at least one more season. D’Antoni’s contract for next season is guaranteed at the amount of $4 million to go along with a team option for the following season.

With D’Antoni now apparently in the fold heading into the off-season, the questions remains on whether Pau Gasol will re-sign with the team and what free agents the Lakers may be targeting to fit his system.

There’s no doubt about the fact that retaining D’Antoni will have an impact on the players that return and the players that show interest in joining the team in free agency.

For once Dwight I agree with you

      • roseducanna

LAKERS owner don’t care about fan, because they have 150mils a year from TV cable.

    • lakers suck!!!!!!!

This is absolutely hilarious. Everyone knows that D’ Antoni is the worst coach for the lakers except the idiots in control of the team. Hahahahahahahahahaha
I think I speak for the rest of the basketball world when I say that it is absolutely historical to see you guys destroy you’re own team.
Arrogant assholes think that they will be able to build a winner just like that but its blowing up in their face and they dont see it. Hahahahahaha

      • Ben

It’s very historical. I agree. Dipshit.

      • Deuce

Blame the lakers GM for the roster full of d leaguers!!!! Mitch Kup is not a good GM. Without the assistance of jerry west gift wrapping pau gasol, Mitch has been exposed as a bad GM.

        • Chrmngblly

No. He has always been a WUS. That’s why he fit in with the Buss family. He’s a smart, mild-mannered guy who ought to assert himself more, in my opinion. Somebody has to check Jimmy.

        • PFTB

Totally agree. People don’t realize it was jerry west and phil who did the work to get championships. Unfortunately Phil appearantly ran west outta town buy never the less it was never kupchak. Then people point out that hr got together the failed Chris Paul deal. What part of failed don’t they get. Its only good if it went through and obviously it didn’t. Kupchak and the busses have been exposed to having no clue as to what it takes

      • Gemini Ac

They like to stay that’s demolution team coach.the lakers teams will be have another fault season if that’s coach stay in lakers another year.mmm i think it’s time to look for a new team.a team is have winning power not a losser power.

    • taviyoung

Worst season in franchise history, TV ratings down 50%, Jack missing home games, continuous decimation of injuries DUE TO HIS OFFENSE, lose Dwight Howard to free agency because they chose MDA over Phil Jackson, now about to lose Gasol, gave Kobe too much money, signed an aging point guard Steve Nash to a 3 yr contract, and now we’re talking about bringing this clown back?!?!?! Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak are running this franchise in the ground!!!!!!

      • Gemini Ac

The 0wner and GM you must thinking thinking before you lost other lakers fans.better kicked out D”antoni if you love so much your team!!!

Since R Ward closed the other article: Coach wants the 4th year option
      picked up.

Ramona Shelburne: “During conversations with the Los Angeles Lakers over the past 10 days… Mike has asked them to pick up the team option on the fourth year of his current contract, sources with knowledge of the situation have told ESPN.”

The coach has “grown frustrated with the pace of the process, believing
each day that his status remains unresolved further hampers his ability to successfully perform the job next season if he is retained.”**********

Yet another excuse (coach) to why he can’t seem to get the most out of any team. He came to LA to try to win and tho injuries have hurt he refuses to accept accountability. But it sounds more about the salary than the job itself. You can go to any web site and see that close to 75% of the masses don’t want him back next season.

Either FO trying to buy more time or they’re plain obtuse with regards to
long term matters. Perhaps their being hard headed about matters believing they’ll roll with Mike until the wheels come, Not a historian of the game but seems the only person that was able to pull a 180 with regards to the team’s direction was the great Dr. Buss.

However, these are different times than previously (w/CBA) and this shows why many don’t have confidence in this FO. IMO, depending on certain near future decisions it’ll take awhile for the franchise to bounce back (years) if they expect to bring back players who lack and all around game while making bad decisions that only stagnate the turnaround process. But depending on matters Jim only has 3 years left (pray),

      • LakersHeatBeef

Hi Jim it’s actually over 90%+ of the Lakers internet fan base that is opposed to Mike D’Antoni being the coach. But carry on lol.

        • Gemini Ac

That’s right Mr.Jim Buss..If you do fired D”Antoni and gets a new coach you have a chance to have a winning team.specially dont let Gasol go to another team because that man needs Kobe’s for a championship crown.

      • ra

Yeah, agree with ‘obtuse’. The FO may be acknowledging that next year is a wash too. So, it’s best to have a scapegoat coach in place so that they can blame it on him (again), and also try to understand if the experiment with MDA will (or would have) worked out.

Years back, Kupchak mentioned that Coach Brown was let go, because the team wasn’t doing well, and he (Kup, FO) didn’t want to wait a year to see how things turned out. That’s when MDA was hired (and, Phil could have been hired too, but anyway…). So, Kup is going to wait to see how it turns out at the end of the 3rd year for MDA??

        • Jim213

My point to everything is FO knows Mike isn’t the coach of the future. Yet Jim’s stated he’s giving himself 3-4 years (3 now) to turn things around. So if they’re trying to buy themselves more time, why not go after the next future coach?

Jim will likely be signing his pink slip given the 2 years remaining that he has to fulfill his objective, Very unlikely that he’d turn things around that soon being contending for for a Western conference title or Finals.

          • LakersHeatBeef

I am now cooled off and relaxed after hearing the D’Antoni returning rumor. Also the Sterling news made me pissed off but anyways now that i have a chance to view Mike D’Antoni here are my thoughts and views.

Well Mike D’Antoni was a great coach in Phoenix for several years and he was a executive within their franchise.MDA won over 60 games multiple times and he reached the Western Conference Finals multiple times as well. Then he got to New York and he couldn’t fix them, but they were already a big mess way before Mike D’Antoni ever took the coaching job over there in New York.Remember Isiah Thomas had messed them up big time and they never were any good with Thomas as GM.

D’Antoni also couldn’t make the playoffs with that franchise, his coaching stint with the Knicks was awful. Then Mike D’Antoni took the Lakers job and year one he took over for a in turmoil team left behind by Mike Brown they were awful under Brown going 2-16 in his final 18 games coached Playoffs and Preseason also Regular season included then Mike D’Antoni got that very same Lakers team to go 28-12 to reach the playoffs as a seventh seed. Now last season was a super disaster and maybe tanking was not going on but the roster was terrible and the players were injured also the team had no chance to win enough games to make the playoffs since the West is too tough right now.Come on now lol Sacre,Kelly,Meeks,Marshall,Wesley were the starters most the time or at the very least they got to play major minutes it was not the coach entirely with that roster.Swaggy P Nick Young off the bench was a good addition but that was not enough to make the playoffs we were 27-55 worst Lakers team ever but the roster more than the proven winner Mike D’Antoni was the cause.Kobe and Nash hardly played last season due to injuries.

Get this coach the right players and instill confidence in him and sign a superstar then the results will be much better.

Players play and coaches coach mostly players make a team a championship team. Our roster is the weakest roster i have seen.Hope the team gets great players or else it won’t get any better.

  • PHUCK DANTONI

    Kill me. Bye.

Lakers better not bring D’antoni that would not be smart or Jim Buss must step down ASAP

        GTFO SOB

  • Omar

Nothing is official. Of course he’d be back if he’s still under a contract. Derr. Doesn’t mean he won’t get fired. Watch him get canned on draft night. These articles mean nothing right now until I see official stuff

    • Sad Laker Fan

Good optimism my man. I won’t feel any emotions until I hear an official word. Jim Buss can’t be that stupid…can he?

      • independentbynature

I think he can.He hired Antoni to start with.

    • Rita KobeLove Ocasio

      I agree.

      • Gemini Ac

I agree also if he had to stay D”Antoni (Demolution team coach)!.

    • Erad

Every fiber of my being wishes you were right. You aren’t. The Lakers we knew and loved died when that POS commissioner vetoed our legally acquired HOF point guard.

Every move they’ve made since has been utter shit. Oh they traded for Dwight? Great job. Too bad you didn’t cut ties with this clown of a coach he was never going to play another second for.

They don’t know what they’re doing anymore

rumors could also be true dummy…

  • TheTruthKills

And there goes next season. Well it’s a good think next years pick is top 5 protected. Jahlil Okafor here we come. And here’s the really funny part: D’Antoni has a team option to bring him back for the 2015-2016 season.

Welcome to the dark days of the Lakers organization.

    • karasoon4

No, Lakers have the option, not him.

      • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

        That’s what “team option” means.

        • karasoon4

Right, sorry I misunderstood the way you put that. For some reason I thought you meant he has the option the way a “player option” would be. Thing is, if next year’s team somehow becomes a playoff team, I think FO is gonna feel it would be justified to pick up his option. Let’s see…

  • independentbynature

Wow…How clueless can you get? What else can you say?I’m considering boycott, myself.I really don’t want to see what’s next.

    • TheTruthKills

A boycott probably won’t stop them. We (the fans) have to make it very uncomfortable for the Buss family to walk the streets of LA. I’m not advocating a mob mentality but, if you happen to see them in public tell them they’re trampling on their father’s legacy.

      • LakersHeatBeef

Yes us Lakers fans must voice our opinion to the world of sports. What will it take for people to know us Lakers fans want a better direction than the current direction?Knicks fans were going to protest the streets the James Doaln budged and hired Phil Jackson. We need to take a stand.Making the arena near empty is what got the Heat to budge and sign LBJ and Wade.Lakers budged and signed Shaq and drafted Fisher and traded Vlade for the rights for Kobe when attendance dwindled near the bottom of the NBA back in the early to mid 90′s.

        • Jack

The Heat still had solid attendance prior to 2010. They landed LBJ because they were patient and planned the whole thing years in advance, setting up their cap space and all that. They weren’t playing to a “near empty” arena. prior to 2010

          • LakersHeatBeef

Yeah sorry the Heat were 15th in attendance now they are in the top 5 and have been since LBJ got there.Lakers were near the bottom in attendance prior to Shaq+Kobe+Fisher bringing them back to the top.But yeah Miami was not at the very bottom that’s true more like middle of the pack.

          • Erad

It wasn’t patience at all. It was opportune timing. Imagine if D-Wade had just been coming off one of his major injuries in 2010 or if they didnt have him at all.

            Fk patience. Does. Not. Work.

Had Kobe been finished those rings with Pau would likely have never happened.

          • Gemini Ac

thats so sad if thats happened.

          • Gemini Ac

Many of the lakers fans will hurt if thats happened. The Owner and GM pls! Listen to a lakers fans Comments!.

      • Disgusted

They don’t give a shit about your feelings just your $$$$$$$$$. Don’t buy the Lakers channel. Don’t go to games. Don’t buy merchandise. Remember the wholesale boycott of McCourt that led to MLB pushing him out? That happened due to reduced revenue for MLB. Hit them in the wallets as they keep raising prices. They don’t give a shit about you, just your $$$. The next guy’s $$$ is just as good as yours…unless there’s no next guy. LET’S BOYCOTT THIS NOW GREEDY AND UNGRATEFUL ORGANIZATION.

      • J Taylor

Why would you want to put the Owners in uncomfortable situations?
They own the team….and can do whatever they want with it.

        • Erad

This is a stupid question. Why the hell wouldn’t you? It’s not like they could be doing ANY worse at all.

They can’t even tank properly. Bunch a clowns up there.

        • Gemini Ac

We care for player also not only the owner.

  • John Smith

OMG!!! i just stabbed myself in the face!!!

    • independentbynature

And the Lakers just shot themselves in the foot.

  • Robert L. I.

Great keep this coach with a losing record who hasn’t won anything, has a huge chip on his shoulder, runs the team into the ground, and gave the Lakers the worst record in team history. Oh, and btw Mitch fucking tired of your bullshit lying every time a mic’s in your face. Don’t try and tell me Pao’s a priority and then keep a punk ass coach with a losing record who disrespects TALLER players. Jim Buss era is utter nonsense.

    • Chrmngblly

I have lost respect for Jeanie over this, too. If there is anything she needs to be “in on” it is key personnel hiring. She can’t be the ding-a-ling she is acting like, since the old man died. JB can’t be allowed to decide this by himself. It’s too important.

The Lakers are all wussies now.

  • LAKERS 8-24

Come on man, it’s kobe’s last year, i mean he doesn’t deserve to be a lakers coach, other time i’ll say “he’s a good coach but not fit for the lakers” but now i’ll say he is not GOOD. i mean come on the lakers suffer this stupid record because of him, i mean don’t get me wrong the lakers have suffer from injuries, but it’s the coach job to play with or without the stars and win the damn ball game,

JIM BUSS REALLY?! and you’ve said you will step down if the lakers are not a contender WELL!?! you’re just one step closer on being the NON- OWNER of the lakers

    • Gemini Ac

I THINK THE LAKERS LINE UP OF 2013-14 SEASON IS REALLY A CONTENDER.THE COACH ONLY IS NOT A CONTENDER.IF YOU LOOK BACK OF MANY LAKERS GAMES THEY HAVE ALWAYS GOOD FOR THE FIRST HALF OF THE GAMES BUT FOR THE SECOND HALF THEY ARE SEEING OF THE LACK OF DEFENCE THAT’S WHY IN THE END OF THE GAME THE RESULT IS LOSSER AND WHO’S HAVE A RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT?

      • LAKERS8-24

yeah, i always watched the lakers game, even though it’s painful to watch knowing that the lakers were going to lose, but i totally agree with you, because all of the players in lakers are very good, but the only problem is that D’ANTONI system is not fit into the players, Chuck said that Mike D’antoni is a good coach, no he is not a good coach i mean, yea the injury is part of the equation on why his system doesn’t work, but it’s his job to play with/ without stars to win the damn game

  • independentbynature

If this is their decision,Kupchak may want to revise his choice for his worst season after next year.

    • LAKERS 8-24

      AGREE

    • Chrmngblly

Do you think they are PLANNING to tank next year?

      • independentbynature

Whether they are or not, they will not be good.If Kobe returns and stays healthy,I think they’ll do just good enough to not keep the top 5 protected pick owed to Phoenix.I don’t think we’ll get the pick anyway.Money and ego are more likely the motivating factors,IMO.

  • Mike

hopefully next year we suck enough to get a top 5 pick then we can keep our pick and not have to send it to the suns (top 5 protected from the nash trade) that would be 2 top 6 talent players from the draft and a star player from free agency and being able to bring in whatever coach the star wants to be his coach anyone who thinks the lakers are going to be doing big spending are disillusion

  • TheTruthKills

This doesn’t bold too well for the draft now. We’ll probably draft Dario Saric now because he fit’s into D’Antoni’s system better.

  • independentbynature

I’ve never done it before, but I’m wondering if I can go a whole season without attending or even watching a Lakers game. This is truly disgusting.Who’s with me?

    • Robert L. I.

I’m with you. What will really hurt them will be if and when Luxury Box & Season Tix holders revolt. They have the real power.

      • independentbynature

Time Warner will be complaining, too. They will take a bath next year with the sponsors. They thought this year was bad? They ain’t seen nothing yet.

    • Sylvia Ross

I am. I’ve gone this season not watching games because we were playing so badly.

    • Erad

If I’m being honest thats what I did this year. The fools completely screwed up Dwight’s free agency. I mean literally with no training and experience I swear on my life I could’ve done a better job than those clowns did.

Those stupid #stay billboards? Yeah okay. He made it very clear he would never, under any circumstances, play for Coach Pringles again yet, he’s still here. Then letting Kobe in on that last meeting was pure idiocy. He shouldn’t have been within a thousand miles of that meeting.

One of the things I used to admire about the Lakers was how brilliant they were, how nothing but the acquisition of championships mattered. Right now the Lakers are a stupid, shoddy organization with no leadership and nothing going for them.

      • independentbynature

These are dark days for Lakers fans.

  • x man

Yes! Remember what Jim Buss said, he will step down when the LAL continue to suck. 3-4 years, let’s keep our fingers cross.

    • Shueb Baafe

Why exactly do u hate Jim Buss? I think you’ve been watching too much espn. It was JERRY not Jim that hired dantoni over Phil + Jeanie makes the final decision if the family can’t agree on something. Don’t believe me? Just Google “Dantoni Jerry Buss” read the articles.

      • independentbynature

You must be the only one in town that believes that…

      • x man

Good one! We still blaming the man in the casket RIP jerry. Who will have the balls to end MDA.

        • Shueb Baafe

I love Jerry too but c’mon u can’t blame his son for his father’s 1 mistake as a owner. Jerry got the final say in big decisions such as coaching + free agents. Jerry loved Showtime more than the triangle. He thought he could recreate that in bringing in fast pace dantoni

          • x man

When did Jerry past again? And why are the FO still holding on to MDA. There more coaches then just MDA and PJ. IMO the next coach should fit the team or could adjust to the team capability.

          • Shueb Baafe

Jerry sadly passed months after he picked dantoni. Reason they kept dantoni was to tank this past yr since Dwight already left, and its a loaded draft and that’s what they’re tryin to do again this upcoming year

          • x man

Now, are you pro choice on keeping MDA?

          • Shueb Baafe

I’m pro on not overreacting to a non story. We’re going to stink next year, with or without dantoni. With another great draft coming up in ’15 we should at least tank if we’re going to stink. We need the worst coach possible for that, and we already do

          • x man

Do LAL even have a first rd pick?

          • J Taylor

There is no 1st round pick in 2015…
Tanking would do nothing except make the team’s 2nd round pick better.

          • comrade24

Our 2015 pick is top 5 protected so if we were horrible this season potentially we could get another high draft pick. That’s not going to happen though. Lakers will be a lot better this season, with or without D’Antoni

          • Shueb Baafe

It’s top 5 protected meaning if we get a top 5 pick, we keep it

          • comrade24

haha pro choice like it’s an abortion. i think it’s for too late for that in MDA’s case lol

          • x man

Now, what is the FO waiting for? Is there another loaded draft picks for next year?

          • Shueb Baafe

According to most nba insiders, next year’s draft could be as good as this year

          • x man

YES! next year with MDA, LAL is shooting for 26-56.

          • J Taylor

            except the lakers don’t own a 1st round pick…
            so it’s irrelevant

      • Robert L. I.

Shueb, where do you get your info? You are completely wrong. There are some great articles out there that appeared in Sports Illistrated starting in around 1999. Jim Buss has been the core of 95% of every Laker move for the past 15 years. He’s into horses and considers players as such. Google the articles (more than one) then give YouTube a look. Just by watching some old interviews with Jerry West, Jerry Buss will clue you in.
        J. West left because of Jim. Look for how Jim handled Brian Shaw and what he thought of Jackson. Those interviews are out there. It’s bloody sad, and sickening. Jimbo fired 30 year “with the organization” employees, all of them. He hired his buddy the bartender to basketball operations. Dude get out there and read. I couldn’t/wouldn’t make this crap up.

        • Shueb Baafe

          1) relax man, no need to get personal, I’m just giving my opinion.
          2) yes, Jim Buss has done some crappy moves including hiding Brown over Shaw but he’s done great things that go unnoticed.
3)Look up the LA Times article about the Buss family. Ask anyone around the origination, Jerry hired dantoni not Jim because Jerry wanted Showtime 2.

          • Robert L. I.

I’m sorry for any disrespect. I didn’t mean to get personal.

Here’s my thoughts, I’m not buying that Jerry was very involved in any hiring moves during his last year. The reason I believe this is I’ve had cancer and if Jerry was as sick as they report, which there should be no doubt. Jerry would hardly care about much business. It is so effed up and you feel so horrible you don’t care, it just doesn’t matter. That’s my experience so I’m guessing.

Again no disrespect, LA Times is not the rag it used to be, and I personally don’t hold them with too much cred. I didn’t see the article, but could it have been a nice fluffy kinda piece? Local radio has been sugar coating J Buss for months so I can’t see the Times doing much different.

I like your take that maybe they keep D’Antoni to tank next year too, but I think you’re wishful thinking. Jimbo ain’t that deep.

          • Shueb Baafe

            1) Thank You. Nothing wrong with a little argument.
            2) Jerry loved lakers & probably wanted to be involved plus it wouldn’t take much time to make a decision. He just picked 1 but sadly picked the wrong one.
            3) honestly I guess now it’s just who u believe. Some sources are reliable & others could be completely false. LA Times, ESPN, Fox Sports, etc.

        • Daryl Peek

West left because of Phil Jackson. “FUCK Phil Jackson” This is in the intro of his book,
Jerry West: The Life and Legend of a Basketball Icon

Jimmiy is the reason Phil was brought back in 05. Jimmy is the only reason Phil got consideration in 2012 when Brown was fired. Jimmy and Mitch went to Phil and Jeanie’s home, Jimmy was happy about the interview with Phil but Kupchack reiterated the team would still be interviewing others. Both Phil and Jeanie have since confirmed Dr. Buss was the one who wanted MDA over Phil. Jeanie also told how her dad had issues with Phil. Jeanie fell out with her dad over him forcing Phil out in 04. She stepped away from her post with the organization for a minute due to it and all but stopped speaking to both her dad and Jimmy. Jeanie didn’t start calling Dr. Buss dad again til he took ill.

If you want to know truths about how Dr. Buss felt about Phil and how he set things up for after himself go to these videos on Youtube…

“Dr. Jerry Buss Exclusive interview 2005 Fox Sports.” (Michael Eaves interview) In this one Dr. Buss speaks on the future as we are now seeing it (power structure) and also how Phil has no place in the Lakers FO future.

“Dr. Jerry Buss exclusive interview ESPN 2005.” (Jim Grey interview) In this one he speaks on how Kobe will have no say in coaching hires and how fans turning their IRE to the FO hurt him.

These are very revealing interviews with Dr. Buss who rarely did sit-downs like this.

  • Shueb Baafe

This is what I think guys and just give it some real thought. Please!

My guess is lakers finally came to the grips that we won’t be better next year regardless if we get better coach. No superstar is available next year (and don’t give me melo, he’s not a championship level superstar) plus our best player is turning 36 (but he’ll still be beast) but coming off 2 serious injuries. My guess is management realizes dantoni or no dantoni, we won’t be better next year (as in playoff better especially in loaded west) and want 1 more tank year then have two young stars (’14 & ’15 draft pick) then get Love in FA. At that point dantoni’s contract is up, we get new coach & get ready to contend + be set for the post-kobe era…if I’m correct & this is lakers thinking then no sense bringing in New coach for a final tank year.

    • independentbynature

I think you over-estimate Jimmy the horse trainer’s intelligence and under-estimate his ego.

      • Shueb Baafe

What’s wrong with Jimmy Buss? Have you forgotten it was Jerry Buss that chose dantoni over Phil not Jim? Ask any major news site besides the idiocy that is espn.

        • independentbynature

I’ve never believed that for a second.Jimmy hates Phil. The ole man just left it up to his idiot son.Jimmy picked Brown. Why wouldn’t he pick his replacement.

          • Shueb Baafe

You’re not listening, agreed Jim might hate Phil but at the time it was Jerry’s final decision since he got the final say in big decisions. And Jerry didn’t like Phil’s coaching ways. He liked Showtime so much more than the triangle. Jerry thought he could recreate that by bringing in fast pace dantoni, didn’t work but u can’t blame Jim Buss on that.

          • independentbynature

No,you’re not listening.Jimmy has been in charge since he hired Brown.Kupchak wanted Adelman, but Jimmy over-ruled him.(per L.A. Times).Just because Dr. Buss was in the loop, does not mean he made the final decision.Jimmy was already in charge.Come on man,the first thing Jimmy did was fire everyone associated with Phil, even Rudy the equipment manager, the whole scouting department and Shaw never had a chance.

          • Shueb Baafe

I completely agree with u on Brown but that was when his dad was in a bad state & that was the only time he put his ego vs right decision. Jerry had the final say, don’t believe me, wait I’m going to show u some sources that say so.

          • independentbynature

I’m sure Dr. Buss knew his son had to start making decisions. That’s why he put him in charge.I can’t fault him for backing his son.I’m just sorry Jimmy is so incompetent. And no,I don’t believe you.Save yourself some typing.Everyone of them is covering for PR.I wont believe your sources, either.I’ve already heard them.I’m not buying it.

          • Shueb Baafe

            1) good Lord man don’t get personal, it’s just basketball. We’re just having an argument that’s fine but don’t go crazy.
            2) I understand your frustrating and I guess it’s your right to feel how u want but I guess it’s your personal feelings over inside sources. Only time will tell whether this final tank job will work out in long run

          • independentbynature

I’m not getting personal.I’ve just heard this over and over from DP and I don’t buy it.No offense intended. But,I am fed up with Jimmy the horse trainer.BTW,he sucked at that, too. This is not Dr. Buss’s Lakers anymore.Like Magic said,”I don’t believe in Jimmy Buss.”Magic has known him for decades.I heard Jerry West was not impressed, either.

          • Shueb Baafe

Well I guess it’s just a matter of who u believe & who u don’t. Only time will tell. My whole point is next year is our final tank yr & no sense getting a new coach in a tank year.

          • Robert L. I.

Inde, you are so right on. It’s good to see others that have been paying attention. Jim had been involved for 15 years or so. This did not happen over night. I’ve watched vids on YouTube, read many articles and it blew my mind, it bummed me out knowing where the Lakers are going. Jerry West couldn’t put up with it. What a shame.

          • independentbynature

I’ve heard from someone who knows him that Jimmy thinks he knows as much as Kupchak. He grew up around Jerry West, but obviously didn’t learn anything from him.He actually thinks scouts are a waste of money. He said most guys at the bar could do as well.He has a huge ego and wants to do things his own way.Dr. Buss listened to West and Kupchak.Jimmy thinks he knows better.Magic knows….

    • TheTruthKills

Love isn’t coming. No one wants to play for a dysfunctional and poorly run franchise. Just let it go. We’re going to be terrible for years to come. We’re the new Clippers.

      • Shueb Baafe

Yea he is. He loves and lives in LA + only other realistic option is knicks & they suck just as bad as us.

        • TheTruthKills

Would you rather put your trust in Jim Buss or Phil Jackson? That’s what Kevin Love will ask himself and the choice is obvious. Love isn’t coming.

          • Shueb Baafe

Mitch Kupchak runs that team too and James Dolan also runs NYK. Basically would u want Phil + Dolan or Kupchak + Buss

          • TheTruthKills

Except Dolan is willing to give full control of basketball operations to Phil. All basketball decisions run through Phil. Here, all basketball decisions run through Jim Buss.

          • Shueb Baafe

            1) look it up online, Dolan is already bumping heads with Phil. 2) Jim Buss? The guy who brought cp3 AND Howard? Yeah, he’s terrible

          • TheTruthKills

            1) Those were rumors that were refuted by Phil himself.
            2) CP3 is a clipper now. Before you blame Stern why didn’t your idol Jimmy repackage a trade to insure CP3 was a Laker instead of a Clipper? Dwight ran as soon as he had the chance. We got nothing in return.

Are you really Jim Buss in disguise or something?

          • Shueb Baafe

            1) of course he denied, what did u expect him to say. Me and my new boss are already bumping heads?
            2) they wanted too much. They wanted either Bynum/Odom + 2 first rounders or Pay/Bynum which is crazy to trade your 2 superstars for someone who might leave u in FA that following season.
            3) lol nah I’m kobe in disguise

          • TheTruthKills

            1) True or not, an alleged argument over Steve Mills isn’t much to worry about.
            2) You forget that CP3 wanted to play in LA. He would have signed an extension as soon as he arrived. Plus Dwight wanted to play with him. If we over payed for CP3 we might have the Kobe/Dwight/CP3 big 3 Mitch and Dr. Buss was aiming for.
            3) That’s plausible because Kobe is the only superstar in this league that thinks Jim Buss knows basketball.

          • Shueb Baafe

If he did love la, why didn’t he sign an extension when he joined the clippers but instead just opted into his deal? Who knows what could’ve happened, maybe kobe & cp3 don’t get along & he decides to leave like Dwight did.

Are u forgetting it would’ve taken at least Bynum to get cp3 & Bynum was big deal breaker in the Dwight trade. We can’t trade Bynum twice

          • TheTruthKills

Because the Clippers weren’t his first choice. He thought he’d be a Laker. He even called Kobe to celebrate the trade. CP3 was in it for the long haul.

Bynum was never part of the CP3 deal. The deal stalled because they wanted more picks, but Mitch wouldn’t budge because the Hornets GM already agreed to terms before Stern stepped in.

          • Shueb Baafe

No the original deal included pau/odom but stern wanted either pau or Bynum not odom. Stern knew LAL wouldn’t do that & deal would be dead.
Again, u never knew how kobe and Paul would’ve coexisted. If they didn’t get along paul could’ve left

          • independentbynature

He sure is terrible.Do you see either one of them in purple and gold?

          • Shueb Baafe

Cp3 left because of stern. DH left because of kobe. Did ya want us to amnesty kobe keep Dwight?

          • independentbynature

No.I never really wanted Dwight in the first place.Everyone knew he didn’t want to be here. But,he left at least as much because of Antoni as Kobe.He hated the system. He even asked who would be the coach before deciding.Though,I think he had already decided. If you’re seriously going to defend Jimmy, you’re not going to get much support here. These fans are way too intelligent to buy that.CP3 was regrettable.I blame Cuban and some other jealous owners, actually. They prodded Sterne.

          • Shueb Baafe

Firing dantoni won’t have done much, he still didn’t want kobe & was going to leave. Actually in the end it worked out, if we didn’t trade Bynum for Dwight, we most likely would’ve given Bynum a big deal which would’ve ended our chances of getting love in ’15.

I understand I’m alone in the Jim Buss supporter club but I guess five years from now when we could be where Portland or okc was 2010 ( having two young studs to build around). You’ll think of Jim Buss differently

          • independentbynature

I very much doubt that.More likely, you’ll feel more like me about him.LOL.Portland and OKC have good people calling the shots. We don’t.

          • Shueb Baafe

Once again time will tell. U guys believe we have a bad front office based on sources which may or may not be true.

          • independentbynature

You believe in Jimmy based on I’m not really sure what. We’ll see.

          • Shueb Baafe

I trust based on he makes great moves but gets no credit, yet his family members including his sister Jeanie, the one everyone wants to takeover, make terrible decisions yet he gets all the blame.

          • independentbynature

Great moves? You think Antoni is a great move?Wow….I have no idea what you are referring to.Jeannie runs the finances and does a great job at that.Jimmy is just completely incompetent.I couldn’t disagree more.

          • Shueb Baafe

Jerry Buss hired dantoni not Jim. Jerry wanted Showtime 2 more than bringing back the triangle. Plus it was Jeanie’s idea to give kobe that ridiculous contract. Or do u want to blame that on Jim too?

          • independentbynature

Dr. Buss was dying .Jimmy was in charge.Jimmy made the hire.Showtime never included running down court and shooting threes in seven seconds or less and totally disregarding defense.Jimmy makes basketball decisions.Signing Kobe was a basketball decision.Do you work for Jimmy’s P.R. department? If not, maybe you should email him a resume.

          • Shueb Baafe

Good God, are you allergic to the truth or something? If u don’t believe me then read this article, it’ll tell u everything you need to know. Jeanie makes the final decision, she gave kobe that extension, Jerry signed dantoni not Jim. Btw when they hired dantoni he had/has a high tempo offense but it’s not seven secs or less…

            http://www.latimesDOTCOM/sports/basketball/nba/lakers/la-sp-lakers-buss-family-20140420,0,3659636.story#axzz302c3rpIC

          • independentbynature

We’ve already been through this.I told you not to waste your time typing it.I’ve already read it.I’m not buying it and not many people are.Jimmy chose Antoni and Jimmy signed him.Everything else is just P.R. excuses.Just go ahead and send that resume. You might as well get paid for it.

          • comrade24

Dwight’s a whiney little wannabe with no footwork or any offensive game to speak of who wanted to be a back to the basket traditional center but doesn’t have the skill or the work ethic to get there. The D’Antoni system would have worked with Howard but he didn’t like pick and roll. Which is odd because that’s the only thing he’s suited for offensively.

          • independentbynature

That is exactly right.Jimmy thinks he knows more than Kupchak.Mitch just wants to keep his job.

  • Robert L. I.

I don’t get it. D’Antoni did get Coach of the Year, but then got his ass handed to him in the playoffs. Why does everyone think he’s a good coach? He’s had a losing record wherever he’s coached. Peeps get informed this guy doesn’t win, he breaks.

Pao enjoy the Knicks, you’ll do very well there, and you’ll be respected. Thanks for the great times Mr. Gasol…much respect from this fan.

    • Shueb Baafe

Because they know we won’t be better next year & want 1 more tank year so we can have 2 young stars + love + New coach in 2015-16 season

      • Sad Laker Fan

Why would Love want to come to a Lakers team that is, in your mind, rebuilding. He would want to go to an established team, which the Lakers won’t be if they continue with stupid D’Antoni

        • Shueb Baafe

And exactly what team is that. Great teams don’t have cap space anymore & only other option is new york. He loves LA much more than new york. And unless Phil is going to coach the Knicks, they’ll continue to suck. Lakers seem to be the only realistic option

          • Sad Laker Fan

No, your perception of the Knicks is all wrong. Even with Phil in the front office playing a similar role that Pat Riley does with Erik Spo, the Knicks will be more attractive than a Lakers team with no identity. And if the Timberwolves are doing better than the Lakers, he would probably stay. The Lakers are just an unattractive team with Mike running the show.

          • Shueb Baafe

That’s exactly my point, he’ll be gone after next year when we can’t get him + have kobe, 2 young stars + the attraction of LA ( his hometown)…plus its not the same as in Miami because Dolan won’t give full control to Phil.

          • Robert L. I.

Dolan gave him 15 million and total control.

          • Jess

Not quite..they are already butting heads.

          • Robert L. I.

            Especially for Big Men.

  • LakersHeatBeef

Nothing can go right for the Lakers.First of all they almost surely put themselves out of the running for getting a top 3 pick by winning the last 2 games i don’t advocate tanking but i am just saying the % went way higher to Utah and Boston anyways i played the ESPN Draft Lottery Mock Draft and Boston and Utah practically get a top 1,2,3 pick everytime while the Lakers are always at pick #6 or #7 and out of 30 tries the Lakers won the lottery twice picking Andrew Wiggins at #1.Anyways now on to this Mike D’Antoni news well i have no idea what the hell is going on with the situation. But it’s going to be a rough ride unless he sets a solid rotation of 8 players and he hands the starters most the minutes.LOL

Kobe he can win you games the scrubs from the D-League are not to be trusted taking too many shots.Give the minutes to the top players who earned it.Now unless the Lakers are in total rebuild mode then play the veterans mostly.Maybe the Lakers are bottoming out i have to guess not.I am surprised out the outcry of fans saying no to D’Antoni yet the FO retained him that’s a gutsy ass move by Jim Buss. This could backfire in a big way.Stay tuned.

  • Sad Laker Fan

I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW YOU CAN CAMPAIGN FOR NICK YOUNG TO STAY BUT NOT SHOW THE FANS DISAPPROVAL OF MIKE D. Like–wtf LakersNation? #StaySwag ? How about #FireDantoni ? Coaching is more important than a trigger happy player

  • independentbynature

I’m not ever eating Pringles potato chips.again, either……

    • Lakerstho

      lmfao

    • Sylvia Ross

That’s funny, I’ve never liked pringles anyway so it won’t be hard for me not to eat them.

      • independentbynature

Me either. They taste phoney.Another reason it fits him.

  • LakersHeatBeef

Damn this message board is moving faster than ever before LOL.

    • independentbynature

      Bad news travels like lightning…..

      • LakersHeatBeef

Yeah the Lakers FO must get serious about this coaching stuff.Like hire a defensive coach for him not Rambis someone else like Lionel; Hollins make sure he gets a Associate Head Coach with a big name like Lionel Hollins to help out the team in coaching. This is just baffling really.Message to the fans is we don’t mind winning only 20 games per season errr i mean 27 games.Damn this crazy news.

        • independentbynature

It’s pretty hard to play defense with Antoni’s smallball system. The other team is off and running with every missed 3ptr.It’s a parade to the front of the rim and no bigs to stop it even if they could get back in time. It’s a stupid system.Defense wins championships.Always has, always will.In every sport, too.Ask the Broncos.

          • LakersHeatBeef

Look my fellow Lakers Brother i understand defense wins championships, yes small ball is tough to play unless you got Michael or LeBron even then the goons handle the dirty work like Cartwright,Horace,Perdue,Rodman,Longley also LBJ has goons right now like Udonis Haslem,Birdman.Lakers gotta slow the tempo down and D’Antoni might never agree to that he is the modern day Doug Moe or Paul Westhead which coach is closest to this D’Antoni guy?But i agree we need to go in a new direction that’s just my opinion.Defense wins championships ask Chuck Daly oh wait he is dead then ask Popovich lol.I agree man.

        • comrade24

i’m hoping now that Dan left it opens a spot up on the bench for Nate McMillan. If MDA is staying on that’s the best that we can hope for.

      • Sylvia Ross

        Agreed.

  • Rita KobeLove Ocasio

I will believe it when it’s official. smh

  • Kale

Ok I am officially done with this organization. I love the Lakers but the way that management is running this organization I refuseto watch this team suck for 4-5 years or until Mr. Buss gives authority to Mrs. Buss.

    • TheTruthKills

Jeanie is the one allowing Jim to run the organization into the ground. She deserves just as much blame if not more blame than Jim.

  • lakerfan1980to2014?

Do you want me to hate basketball??????

    • MissCicely

Don’t take it out on basketball lol.

  • Robert L. I.

It’s like we’re in some kind of weird vortex. Lakers post worst record in their history. Kobe’s in France. Clippers are in the playoffs with LA sport dj’s telling us to root for the Clippers who shouldn’t even be here picking the scraps of LA’s homeless.
And now we are being informed Jimbo’s gonna double, no, triple down on D’Antoni.

    It’s a Gawd Damn vortex!

  • http://growingforward.net Scott Asai

So that’s what the Lakers have become…hope TWC drops them and season ticket holders ask for a refund. This is disgusting!

  • josh Weiss

Why would they hire this guy again? For what, so we can lose again and not actually lose when we need to lose ( Jazz game). We need a new coach next year to help develop our draft pick not some idiot like dantoni. Unless somehow they may want to keep dantoni because they are trading the pick to the wolves for klove? Who knows but whatever it is do not sign dantoni again cuz you guys r too cheap to waste your own damn money on a second coach that you will fire.

  • Lakers Rebuilding

Hang on guys lets not jump to conclusions just yet no official word by the FO has been announced just yet its just “sources” and half of the time I wouldn’t even believe it. I still think he’s gone regardless, it’s not like he’s the Lakers coach for the next ten years or so he’s just a tanking coach, simple as that. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like the Lakers tanking either but for future purposes im with it 100%, and I am a die hard Laker fan. We may not get a major free agent like Melo or anyone like that but we will have a goo draft pick plus Kobe coming back next season and we are still an attractive franchise no matter what anyone says, I mean come on it’s the Lakers man!
Here’s what I think our lineup for next season will be:
    PG:Steve Nash/Jordan Farmar/Kendall Marshall
    SG:Kobe Bryant/Jodie Meeks/Kent Bazemore
    SF:Luol Deng/Nick Young/Xavier Henry
    PF:Aaron Gordon/Ryan Kelly/Shawn Williams
    C:Marcin Gortat/Robert Sacre/free agent pick up
I mean this team will most likely not contend for a title but I seem them as a 6th-8th seed at best. Plus we have the 2015 draft and free agency to so our future is bright no matter what the haters may say.

    • TheTruthKills

You can cross Deng off the list. He’ll want to play for a contender. Someone is going to overpay for Gortat, plus he doesn’t fit D’Antoni’s system. As far as a draft pick, remember the name Dario Saric. He’s a 6’10″ euro forward who can shot and pass. Which basically means he’s tailor made for the D’Antoni system. So it will be Kobe’s chalk outline and a bunch of glorified D-League players.

    • comrade24

i don’t think that lineup would make the playoffs in the western conference honestly. The Suns won 48 games and missed out. Hoping that they eliminate the conferences all together. Very unfair as it sits. West Conf. teams have a battle from start to finish in playoffs. Miami will likely take a leisurely stroll back to the Finals again with no resistance. I’m hoping Melo goes to Chicago and D-Rose is healthy so the Heat can have some type of competition out east. It’s sorry over there.

  • KB24

So does that mean KB won’t play for the Lakers next season? Didn’t he mention if D’antoni was coach next season he would leave the time

    • KB24

      leave the team****

    • TheTruthKills

No one is taking Kobe’s contract. He’s stuck here.

  • J Taylor

And, the new lakers owners learn one of their biggest lessons.
This is truly the first mistake by the Jeanie m Jimmy Team.

  • TheMonitor

By the time D’Antoni is done with the Lakers, the team would have forgotten completely that it used to contend for the NBA title… sad.

  • independentbynature

Clippers fans are gonna love this. They’ll own Staples as long as Jimmy is calling the shots.

  • TheMonitor

Not only is Jim Buss tearing down his father’s legacy, he is destroying the winning culture that many Lakers greats spent their entire career building.

  • TruLoyalty323

Whether I agree with this or not doesn’t matter. If this is their choice then so be it. I’m still a Laker fan, always have always will…I will still watch on TV and go to my handful of games. I celebrate when they win and I share in their misery. I’m in the minority in this thought I know, but After all the success and great times they’ve given me, It’s only right for me to reciprocate and give them time to get things back in order.

  • 3339

    The Lakers will regret this.

    • independentbynature

We should do our best to make them regret it.

      • Sylvia Ross

I just saw this, my computer has been acting up so I have been watching the Portland game. I cannot believe this. My heart dropped four feet. I guess they don’t care how we feel. pringles, said for us to find ourselves another team. I guess he knew he wasn’t going any where.

        • independentbynature

I’m watching the game, too,Sylvia.I’m hoping the Blazers take the broom to the Rockets. Will Dwight quit on them in game 4,like he did us?I’m disappointed.but not surprised at this.Jimmy is a buffoon. His ego will not let him admit mistakes.

          • 3339

thats the part that bothers me most. I think they are keeping this ass crack just because they can’t admit a mistake.

          • independentbynature

Don’t under-estimate the money, either. It was not a problem for Dr. Buss, but it might be for his kids.Even with Time Warner.Don’t forget.Jimmy’s first act was to fire the whole scouting department and even the equipment manager. He was cited as saying scouting was over-rated.I know. What an idiot he is.

          • Sylvia Ross

Did you see the rookie just hit that three ? So it won’t be a sweep. Good game.

          • independentbynature

Yeah, nothing is going right tonight.LOL.At least we got to see what good basketball looks like.

          • comrade24

i really wish it would have been a sweep. Then we could have pointed our finger at dwight and laughed. Didn’t get any farther with your new buddies than you did with us. Serves him right. Hoping Portland embarrasses them the rest of the way.

      Start believing. He’s back !!

      • Matt Williams

False alarm. As I said, they haven’t met with him yet.

Look, all things being fair, MDA had a sh*t squad for a team, and vital injuries throughout the season, I’ll give him that. With that being said, I do not want this man to be the head coach of the Lakers. His 7 sec or less system is BS with or without having the players he wants/needs for that system. Jim Buss is a tool, and the only way I would remotely apologize and admit that I’m wrong about this is if the Lakers make it to the Conference Finals next year…don’t see that happening at ALL. How the hell can the apple fall so far from the tree…JIM! Jerry should have just gave him some money and told him to F. Off in regards to the Lakers and let Jeanie handle this ish. PHUCK!

Not sure how the Lakers could be a bottom 5 team next year to ensure they keep their pick from Phoenix. Antoni’s certainly the right coach for the tank job, but assuming Kobe plays in 70 games at a high level, they’ll have at least 30 wins. Not sure what the gameplan is here, but Heisler could be wrong. Lakers are a tight-lipped organization, who knows what Mitch has up his sleeve.

Okay, don’t rub it in. At least I know I’m not the only person feeling as if this is it for a while.

The Clippers are good and the Lakers suck. This is like the twilight zone or some kind of star trek alternate universe.

  • TheTruthKills

Ramona Shelburne is reporting that D’Antoni wants his team option picked up because he doesn’t want to be a lame duck coach next season. This might be when bad becomes worse.

    • independentbynature

And the nightmare continues.Somebody please wake me up.

      • Sylvia Ross

So the reports are true that Lakers management have decided to keep MDA. Also reported that MDA wants Lakers to pick up his option so he won’t be a lame duck coach next year. Hopefully that will make the Lakers reconsider and say phuck that, let MDA go and move one. I pray that’s what will happen, 2 more years of MDA is enough to make me…

    • TheTruthKills

Seeing how Jim Buss is calling the shots you know how this will end. Prepare yourself for two more seasons of D’Antoni. Kobe’s last two seasons wasted.

  • God ¢╫Γןϟϟϟ

welp say goodbye to any hopes of getting Melo. He didn’t want D’antoni before and he won’t now. Smh, it’s official Buss ruined the franchise
