Lakers Release Statement On Passing Of Owner Jerry Buss

Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss has passed away at 80-years old. Buss was battling cancer.

The longtime owner of the storied NBA franchise has been dealing with multiple health issues over the past few years. Buss was recently admitted to the hospital at different times for different with cases of severe dehydration and blood clots in 2012.

Back in August of 2012, Buss underwent surgery for an undisclosed reasons, but now it appears it may have been cancer related. Daughter and Lakers Executive, Jeanie Buss, commented on her father’s surgery claiming everything went well and that he was “pumped” for the upcoming Lakers season after acquiring superstars Dwight Howard and Steve Nash.

Unfortunately, Buss’ health only got progressively worse since the surgery this past summer and has succumbed to his illness.

The Lakers issued the following press release regarding the passing of Buss:

    I am sad, missed his decision making qualities over past year; particularly in terms of hiring a coach.
    He was a true leader of L.A.
