Lakers Players Discuss Finding Out About Mike D’Antoni

With the reports speculating over the weekend that not only was the head coaching position Phil Jackson’s to lose, but also that he would have a Monday decision, an 11:41 PM Sunday night tweet by L.A. Times beat writer Mike Bresnahan seemed to be a source for more than just reporters. After practice today, Pau Gasol admitted to Kevin Ding (O.C. Register), that he too found out about the hiring of Mike D’Antoni on Twitter.

Dwight Howard also relied on technology for the news of his new Lakers head coach, be it a lesser dated version. Beto Duran reported that Dwight Howard found out on BBM, BlackBerry Messenger (c’mon Dwight…a BlackBerry?!?!). And Metta, well Metta, doesn’t know where he was at. His birthday is Tuesday, and he used Sunday night to celebrate.

For the most part, there has been overwhelming support for the Lakers new hire. Both Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant endorsed D’Antoni prior to Sunday’s win over the Sacramento Kings. Kobe Bryant did not speak to the media after practice today but is expected to speak to the media tomorrow. Due to Steve Blake’s abdominal strain, Bryant took Blake in his helicopter to see a doctor in Orange County for an ultrasound.
