After getting injured on Dec. 29 and playing two games with the Los Angeles D-Fenders, Xavier Henry will make his return against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday.

Although Henry is pain free, he is still out of game shape after being out of action for nearly two months according to Lakers reporter Mike Trudell:

During his time with the Lakers’ D-League affiliate, Henry averaged 17 points and 3.5 assists in just 24.5 minutes per game. Although Henry will make his return on Monday, he will be on a minutes restriction as he tries to get himself into shape.

At one point in the season, the entire backcourt was depleted by injuries and Henry was forced to play point guard before he eventually got injured as well. This time around, Henry returns with the small forward and shooting guard positions completely crowded with the trade for Kent Bazemore and MarShon Brooks.

Before getting injured, Henry was having his best season during his young career. Formerly a lottery pick from the 2010 NBA Draft, Henry appeared in 31 games and was averaging 10.1 points which is a career-high. While it’s unclear how many minutes he will play, having Henry for the remainder of this season will be a welcomed addition.

Xavier did pretty good for the Lakers early in the season. But now that Brooks and Bazemore are playing great with the Lakers we have a serious logjam at the wing position.Brooks,Bazemore,Young,Meeks,Wesley,Xavier all are capable of playing shooting guard and small forward.Kobe is coming back eventually and he is the penciled in starter.

If it was my choice i would pick Brooks,Bazemore, since they are cheaper to bring back than Swaggy P and Meeks they will get great offers in free agency IMO.Xavier is worth bringing back for cheap though.Saving as much money as possible is very important to helping acquire a top free agent or two in the future.Spend less on the bench and more on the new starters coming in.Unless Young,Meeks are willing to play for peanuts then likely they will sign elsewhere.Brooks is impressive.Xavier might accept a low money offer tbh.

Don’t fool yourself, all these guys suck! One win against a sorry kings team. we stole these guys off another teams bench no one wanted. Lakers fans fall in love with everyone who joins .let’s bring in collins you want to get excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Chrmngblly

Wow. I am really getting excited just looking at all your exclamation points….holy moly….:-)

No one is fooling himself here… Lakerheatbeef is correct… we are not talking about starters… we are talking about bench players… the starters will still be Kobe,Farmar, Wes, Gasol(if resigns to a less $$ contract) or a Free Agent(possibly Monroe), another Free Agent(probably Deng) if not Jordan Hill.

Bazemore, Henry, Brooks comes off the bench along with Marshal, Sacre, and Kelly.

        • Chrmngblly

Maybe. But I would leave room for a surprise or two from Bazemore, Brooks or Marshall. Marshall is our best playmaker. One of those guys will be too good to leave on the bench. I am sure they love starting for the Lakers. They won’t give way easily.

Could Hill get into good enough condition to start at the 4? Sorry Ryan Kelly.

SOrry about that… Hill will probably be gone next season… I think Kelly will take his place… IF Deng comes or another stretch 4 that would be really good… if we let go of Pau, we should get a defensive center like Okafor or Monroe.

          • Chrmngblly

            Deng is a 3.

We are LA Lakers fans… we love anyone who dons the purple and gold… we are not bandwagoners… we may lose today or this season, but we always go back up to the top of the world every time. Who is fooling who?
