Lakers News: Xavier Henry Trying To Establish Himself In The NBA

xavier henryXavier Henry has found a home here in Los Angeles, and the young guard is looking to build a solid foundation in the NBA.

Henry was the 12th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies and his career with them did not go as planned. Henry dealt with injuries and was unable to find comfort in the new situation.

After the Lakers faced Henry’s former team on Tuesday, the guard spoke to the Daily News and talked about where he stands in his NBA career. Although his first few seasons were a struggle, he hopes to work toward a long and successful career.

“I’m trying to solidify myself and have a great career,” Henry said. “But it doesn’t happen in a day. I can’t have too many highs or lows. It’s about pushing through the whole season.”

This season with the Lakers, Henry has averaged 9.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game while playing a very important role in the Lakers’ rotation. When Bryant was out due to injury, Henry was someone the coaching staff trusted late in games and he constantly made big shots down the stretch. As the season progresses, Henry hopes to build on his skills and become a lethal option as the Lakers work for the post season.
