The Los Angeles Lakers will meet with free agent Dwight Howard tomorrow as they look to convince the star to re-sign with the team.

Free agency officially began at 9:01 pm PST Sunday night and the Houston Rockets were the first team to meet with Howard. The Lakers will be getting the last word but the Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors will also be giving their pitch to the center.

LakersNation reported earlier that the Warriors will offer a sign and trade to the Lakers which will send Andrew Bogut and either Klay Thompson or Harrison Barnes to Los Angeles. However, Ken Berger tweets that the Lakers have no interest in a deal for Howard.

The Lakers have been clear that a sign and trade for Howard is not an option they are pursuing. The team has a lot of cap space to work with next summer and working on a deal may prevent them from being able to sign key players in 2014.

Plan A for the Lakers is for Howard to re-sign and they will do whatever it takes in their meeting with him on Tuesday.

Bogut would be a great choice for LA. Throw Klay in and Dwight would be gone, forgotten and not missed.

i want this 3 team deal to happen for ALL teams

    lakers: barnes, thompson, haywood

    warriors: dwight, ben gordon

    charlotte: bogut, jefferson

this will really save the lakers A LOT of money, i think barnes and thompson are in their rookie contracts and haywood gets paid 2 mil next season. that trade gives the lakers a lot more choices, like signing bynum… idk how many laker fans want him back but i would welcome him… for the RIGHT price… his dumb azz is not a maximum contract player tho

That would be a terrible trade for the Warriors. They are better off standing pat then they would be trading both Harrison and Klay for Howard. You get 1, not both.

The Dubs would be incredibly foolish to let both Thompson and Barnes go for Howard.

Bogut’s contract expires after 2013-2014, and Klay or Barnes are on their rookie contract, it makes no sense for Lakers not to take this deal if D12 wants to go to GSW. They still going to have the cap in 2014 and a young promising player. I think this article is non-sense.

that would be a terrible deal for the warriors

why the fuckk not??? stupid lakers

I really think Dwight will sign with the Sparks.

I’d only do it if both Barnes and Thompson were included along with Bogut.

That would NEVER happen. The whole point of a trade with GSW would to get 1 piece to help build around so they aren’t left with nothing to show for losing Howard. (either Klay or Barnes), then you’d get Bogut and an expiring contract and possibly a 1st rounder. Basically the Lakers would get Thompson (or Barnes) and still have all their cap flexibility for 2014.

Lakers are trying to play hard ball at this stage to resign Howard. The only thing that favor Howard staying is that max five years contract. They don’t want to give other team and Howard that edge if laker let Howard think he can get max deal to play somewhere else with a sign and trade. This is the only chip lakers has left. Howard does not want to play with dantoni nor Kobe.
Maybe when it comes down to the end and Howard is Adamant about leaving then laker will consider sign and trade. Strategy at this point.

Bogut’s expiring contract + Harrison Barnes is a good trade for Howard… Our 2014 plan will not be affected with this trade… I think lakers FO is just posturing at this time to get a better deal out of Howard should he decide to play elsewhere.

do your research before you write an article like this.. a trade like this would not impact your 2014 offseason at all. it would most likely be bogut (expiring) + biedrins/jefferson (both expiring) + barnes/thompson (rookie contracts).. lakers either fronting cause they still want howard and dont want to show any signs of weakness or doubt..or scared of what warriors would become with howard.

  • ersliva

if they were to lose howard a sign and trade with the warriors for jack(sign and trade)h.barnes/d.lee plus picks then I would say go for it…..otherwise no way

      gasol
      lee
      peace
      Bryant
      nash
      hill
      clark
      barnes
      meeks
      jack
would stand a very good shot at making the western finals
